Is he the one of the most in form cricketers going around at the moment....
Still doesn't seem to get a great deal of recognition.....Has played some absolute great matches for Australia in the past year or so (World Cup and beyond)......
Wud u say he needs to prove himself over a longer peiod of time or has he turned the corner for good? Perhaps not being able to cement a test spot tarnishing him a bit?
Also, where do people see/rate him with other world allrounders (Flintoff's, Kallis n co.)
He has proved himself over a long period of time. He came good in the world cup, first game, scoring around 140. I rate him 2nd best allrounder behind kallis. Equal with Flintoff, but i did choose him over both of those in my fanatsy team.
Symonds in the last 5 ODIs:
Symonds, A - Runs: 223 (Avg: 111.50, 50s: 1, 100s: 1, HS: 104*, St/Rt: 110.40)
Symonds, A - Wks: 3 (Avg: 28.33, 4wi 0, 5wi: 0, BB: 2/25, Econ/Rt: 64.39)

Symonds is a gun and i can't understand why he wasnt picked to go on the indian tour! He would great with his form with the bat and he can bowl some handy off spin and medium pacers! But the selectors decided to go with Shane Watson

I hear what you're saying, but nah he couldn't go to India after he failed in Sri Lanka. Plus he doesn't take enough wickets in the longer form of the game. I hope he gets another chance in test cricket one day though, even if just as a batsman - he reminds me of Viv Richards, just not as polished.
And don't underestimate Watson. If he can get his test career up and running (hopefully in the next year or two) he could be a HUGE asset to the side with bat and ball. Only 23 too.

Gotta agree with the Symonds call. He is a better option than both Watson and White, and arguably Clarke. And how on earth Hauritz got selected is a mystery. He spins the ball 2 inches at most in the same direction, and the Indians will go him 5 an over easy.

I think he is averaging 51 since the start of the last world cup so I guess he is almost our most valuable ODI player atm given his fielding and useful bowling.
I thnik he should be in the Indian team ahead of Watson.

I think that the selectors were worried about the Batting side of things given that Watson is a better bat than a bowler, but certainly Symonds must have been considered long and hard.

The Tests are a completely different issue to ODI's. Roy may be 1 of the 1st picked for the ODI's, but he hasn't done enough at Pura level to demonstrate he deserves a top-6 batting spot in our test team.
Kallis and Flintoff are ahead of him. He has become such a vital part of the side though. On his omission from the Test team - I think that his poor tour of Sri Lanka said to the selectore that the experiment didn't work. He will regain his spot within the next 18 months though if he keeps his form up.
If Watson can get his bowling right he could become a valuable player in the test team. Can't see him breaking in for a while yet.

Sri Lanka proved that he is not up to test cricket. Doesn't have the ability to take wickets or bat for long periods of time... this is shown in Pura Cup performances as well.
Is definitely suited to the one day form of the game, playing brilliantly at the moment. I think Punter leading him has had a big effect on his development. That and the confidence he got from dominating at the last world cup.
FWIW Shane Watson is a gun.
