..to those at the game. I'm used to seeing opposition fans either stream out early or immediately after the game, but there was very little of that with the vast majority hanging around for the speeches, so much respect from me for taking your licks. You've been pretty gracious winners, so its good to see you can lose graciously too. Me, I can't do either, but I suck.
Thanks for the game, seeya next year.

Precisely. I think it was one of my proudest moments as a Lions supporter, looking around the ground and seeing so little movement in the aisles. I remember the mass exodus last year at 3 qtr time. And don't even get me started on when the Collingwood "team" walked off the field mid way through our presentations!
Losing truly is a test of ones pride and integrity and I believe the Brisbane Lions as a whole club, players, staff and supporters showed they have both these qualities in bucket loads.

Congratulations to Port Adelaide.
Clearly the better team on the day.
Worthy winners.
Hopefully we can bounce back in 2005.

Thanks for those words. I must admit that when it finally hit me we had absolutely no hope with 5 or 6 to go, there was an urge to join the handful of Lions supporters who left from near where I was - Southern stand concourse area - but I, and most others were determined to fly the colours to the end.
The boys have taken us on a fantastic ride for 4 years now and the least we could do was cop the defeat with them and pay our respects to a side who had outplayed us on the day.
I've read elsewhere that Port supporters were ungracious and rude but I must beg to differ. The one's around me were reasonable and fair, both during and after the game. Sure they went off towards the end and after the siren but who wouldn't?
Having never been to AAMI, I had no first hand experience but had heard all the stories about toothless, wharfie, ferals. I don't know how many of them were wharfies, but they had teeth, they weren't feral and they just love their footy team. Good luck to them, they've seen the heartbreak and they deserved the euphoria.
