View Full Version : Is Shaun Tait worth a chance??

Lee has had a squillion chances and has been found wanting with his line and
length. He is money for old rope when bowls half way on those feather bed English tracks.

Would Shaun Tait be worth a chance despite his youth and inexperience??

I am at bit of a disadvantage as I live out of the country and haven't seen him bowl very much bar a little on TV where he looked reasonable quick and he yorked a couple of batsmen through sheer pace. Didn't see enough of him to know if moved the ball much.

I see where he won the rookie of the year last season and has taken 52 wickets at just under 30. Reasonable figures for a young bloke.

People talk about blooding a younger batsman as our batting is getting a little ancient but we really need another quick firing before we go to England next year and I am almost totally convinced Lee aint it. Tait could learn a lot on an Ashes tour from McGrath.

I would appreciate some informed opinion as to whether Tait is ready and most importantly has the goods to be our next gun quick.

Failing him is there any other pace bowler is worth a look at the moment??

Give Lee the arse and bring on some of the youngsters. In all seriousness, they can't do any worse.

McGrath and Kaspa can't be around much longer, and Lee is crap, so it would make sense to give some other guys a go. Probably better to play them in our summer first though, I suspect CA wouldn't want to risk more than Cameron White being the new boy in India.

Tait is more erratic than Lee, not up to international standard.

All the more reason to give him a season or two alongside McGrath and Gillespie... It might rub off on him, although it hasn't worked for Lee.

Brett Lee is required for the good of cricket. Why you ask? Well, the answer is simple, Australia's pure domination of world cricket is having a negative impact on crows arounds the world; so the Australian Cricket Board have decided that Brett Lee will bowl in game to ensure that the opposition can at least look like they have a chance at winning and that should have bring the supporters of other countries out of the manic depression and back to the cricket.

As for the result against England, it's got me buggered.

Absolutely 100% incorrect, I suggest that you should watch Tait bowl before commenting.

Tait will be a good solid bowler for Australia, maybe a year or 2 away from securing a spot, but that will come. And playing for South Australia will ensure that he gets to do ALOT of bowling , mainly due to the fact that the rest of the squad is fairly substandard at this time, and Tait will be carrying alot of responsibility; This will also determine if he has the character and determination required to play Test and One day cricket for Australia.

No he is actually correct, and I have seen him bowl quite a bit. Maybe erratic is not the right word, but he puts the ball in the slot far too often. Has pace and wicket taking ability on his day, but reminds me too much like Brett Lee for my liking.

Be interesting to see how his body holds up... hyper-extends his back through the delivery stride, which is not a good thing!

Tait is just an excitment machine and I think he is worth the risk.
Lee has had his chance and he is not the same since his operations. Why not play Tait instead?
Paul Rofe may be worth a shot he is sort of in the mode of a glen Mcgrath type. Doesnt take the wickets Tait does but just continually bowls a good line and length.

Im pretty happy with the current combo of McGrath, Gillespie and Kasprowicz.

Thats pretty much what I was trying to say. Bowls just as many No-Balls as Lee too.

Been to several games at the Adelaide Oval that Tait has played in, and though his line and length does need some sharpening - he is certainly a bowler for the future. Remember his first ING game, conceded something like seven wides in the first over. And then in the his recent county match, he conceded 8 or so wides in the first over. 8 wides in a non-one day game is pretty bad, he finished with 17 (i think) for the match!!!

Tait is definately a future Australian International Player. I would suggest Tait will be playing some internations this summer.

We don't need to talk them up... as they are gonna be bloody great!

Young guys like Tait, Cleary, Cosgrove and Cameron will give us some needed fire-power this season.

GO THE REDBACKS!!!!

Play him ahead of Lee. At least he does not have an over-opinionated view of himself.

As have I. But I am sure that your view from Venice Beach CA is alot better than actually being at Adelaide oval :p . There is absolutely comparison between his control and a "young Brett Lee", as lee has never had any control over his bowling.

Haha so we should, we have the best bowlers in the country not playing for Australia.
What other pace combination in the Pura cup could beat Tait, Rofe and Cleary? All 3 will play for Australia at some stage.
As for our Batsmen hmmm well at least we have Blewett and Cosgrove, the rest can all bugger off

Play Lee for NSW for a full domestic season, it would make or break him as a bowler.
