It would also release players like buckley burns licca woey lockyer free of taggers coz they cant tag everyone :D plz reply

Should be #2, bruce should be #1 priority
Should be #2, bruce should be #1 priority
I don't agree.
Bruce would be a great pickup, but if we are going to win a flag in the next 3 years then Harvey has to be the one we go after.
Give up pick #7
Give up Ben Johnson
Give up Shane Woewodin
Give up Rhyce Shaw
Give up Ritchie Cole
Give up Leon Davis
To get both Harvey and Bruce.
If Didak can continue his growth he will change with Harvey through the middle. That will cover to positions of Woewodin, Shaw and Davis.
Bruce as a marking half forward will release Buckley (when resting from the middle) to play a half back flanker role which will more than compensate for the drive that Johnson and Cole have given.
Ideally I'd like to keep Cole as he will be a very handy player in the future although the rest have obvious deficencies at times but will still hold some good value to Nth Melb & Melb. Johnson and Woewodin being the obvious ones here.

I think we need a more prolific ball getter than someone of Harveys type. (Hayes, Black mould) He is a great player to have as the cream though.

ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?????
B. harvey is a sooky lala and belongs at north.
Lets keep our picks and draft well for a change.
I like to see fresh faces coming through.
ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?????
I've been a member since 1986. Yes l am out of my mind. :D
I'd be very ready to see the backs of any of these guys if it meant getting either Harvey or Bruce. Yes putting all of that list together is a huge chunk (offer less to start with of course) although you need to be fair. We will get reemed again this year in the draft if we do not put up some sort of quality.
The list we have is young and inexperienced to add to that list with another young player (pick #7) makes us even more reliant upon not having another injury run. (Presti, Buckley, Rocca, Burns, Tarrant)
The foundations for the future have been set (Clokes, Shaws, Richards, Walker etc) we now need to get some shorter term (2-4 year) benefit from experienced hard bodied players that also address our current deficencies. Fast goal kicking onballers (Harvey) and a strong contested marking half forward (Bruce).
Having two players of this calibre will give the younger blokes that little bit more time to mature into what everyone hopes they will become.

no offence lockyer24 but if we still need a player like that then what has licca, bucks and burns been doing? licca and burns are the same type of player as a black or hayes (get in an under = lots of stats) we need someone to finish off their good work some one with pace and can kick a goal like harvey or bruce. we have a generally slow midfield.
LIcuria and Burn's are the hard ball getters, we need that smooth running player that has great skills, and hopefully a lot of pace. I'd say Bruce would be better than harvey, But in no way should we get rid of Cole or Johnson, they improved so much this year, Johson could even become a midfield player next year. he has proven he can play there and can now kick really well, specially at goal.

Were you looking in the mirror when you sed that???
Malty confirmed they want Harvey for pick seven in todays australian
We are in a pretty handy position with pick 7. It will all depend on how keen Geelong and North are to get Ottens. As long as we stick to our guns and don't accept anything less than the players stated in the paper today (Harvey, Kelly, Tenace,Bartel,S.Johnson) then I'll be happy. If they don't want to trade any of those guys, then the worst that can happen is we get a talented youngster in the draft.
I heard a week ago the Ottens was likely to end up at North. Harvey for pick 7 fits in with that and our need for a skilled midfielder with pace. A midfield of Buckley, Burns, Licuria, Harvey, Woewodin and then the second stringers and up and comers looks bloody good to me.
This is a deal that should be signed up on day one so the rest of the week can be spent trying to upgrade our round pick with some player deals. If we could end up from trade and draft time with Travis Cloke, Brent Harvey, a pick in the early teens and a 4th round pick while we promote Maxwell, Crow and Lenard permanently off the rookie list I’ll be very happy. Unless we can turn pick 7 into a top 3 we may as well trade it for a player who will increase our premiership credentials while Buckley, Burns and Wakelin still allow us to have some. With a list as young as ours pick 7 for Harvey is fine with me.
pick 7 and mcGough for harvey

I get the feeling that Boomer will be a Magpie within 48 hours..
Harvey for Pick 7
Pick 7 and Pick 10 for Ottens.
Thats the rumour.
Laidley has strongly denied leading the race for ottens however.

if this deal comes thru i think we will give away more then pick 7 i think we might add a player too
Just heard Laidleys interview. "Guys I can tell you now, were basically out of the race for Ottens" I guess this is showing his reluctance to trade Harvey for pick 7 (I would too if I was him)
This pick 7 we have seems to be gaining in its worth. I reckon its about the only top 10 pick that could be traded if you believe what you hear. Line up and make your best offer boys!!
Heard Brereton on the radio as well, suggesting to look out for Collingwood this week, and in particular in regards to the PSD. Although he said he didn't actually know anything, he seemed to be hinting at something. He said we were very well organised and had cash to burn. (Then again, perhaps he's comparing us to his mob ;) )

Yeah that's a really strange thing to say, re Laidley..
Hopefully we seal the deal, Kerr could be another smokey too.

Why would we? We are in a very strong position in regards to this trade. At the end of the day if North or the Cats don't come up with what we want, and Richmond digs its heels in, then the trade falls over. No skin off our nose. We may even benefit by snagging him for nicks in the PSD. We should stick to our guns and call the shots. Harvey, Kelly, Tenace, Johnson or Bartel. Like it or lump it. :)

Miller denied that they are out of the race for Ottens. Miller retorted Laidley's claims saying that he merely told North that he had to speak to all the other clubs.
Miller reckons the deal will be done by mid week to get Ottens traded.
I think Harvey is coming our way for pick 7.
[QUOTE=Skoff]Give up pick #7

You have to be kidding to want to give up these guys. For starters ritchie cole is coming into his own now and i wouldnt want to trade him, hes going to be very valuable to us in the future. Ben Johnson had a fantastic year for us and i dont want him to go either. leon davis was a big improver this year and so was shawy when he had the chance. And woey well i think he just had an off season but he did play some good games for us you know.
im sick and tired of ppl bad mouthing and saying we need to get rid of these guys, they are our future and when they leanr to play well and consistant each week, and help us to win a cup will you still all bag them and want to get rid of them then?? i doubt it!! So give them a fair go and lets see what the 2005 season brings!!

It now looks very unlikely , Ottens doesn't even seem to want to entertain the idea of playing for North.

Could he go PSD?
If so why not pick him up there?
If the rumours are of Harvey not liking Laidley are true, the trade could still go through And with Harvey having a poor season, they may elect to make room in the salary cap to keep youngsters in the years to come.
Also maybe Ottens said his preference was Geelong and Sydney over Kangaroos and Hutchy blew this out of proportion. I find it hard to believe he has stone cold refused to go to Kangaroos.

Isn't Hutchy a Tigers fan?
Anyway, the equation for me is simple. If Boomer wants to play for North next year, he should be untouchable. If he doesn't, I'd trade him to you guys for #7 and McGough. But I wouldn't ontrade that for Ottens, I'd keep it and draft Monfries.
Tomorrow should be interesting, that's for sure.

Who's bad mouthing these guys?
I'm simply stating that for Collingwood to obtain a player of the calibre of Harvey then they have to bite the bullet and trade player(s) and draft choices for it. Like many other supporters of clubs we have an over inflated idea of what our players are worth.
Johnson, Cole, Shaw and Davis may very well develop into some good above average players but none of them are going to be regular match winners. (note the word "regular", Davis will win a couple but not regulary).
Collingwood have an abundance of young players on which they will build a solid foundation of success around in 2-4 years. Clokes, Shaws, Richards & Walker. What we need NOW is to top up our established class unit. Having one or two extra top class players for the same period of time 2-4 years will be more benficial to the club than hanging onto 3 - 5 players who may become good above average players over a period of 5 - 8 years.
