i reakon i'm with you on pettifer i can't stand him love to see him just go.
I would only take the Jolly deal out of those.

same and i wanna get Jolly, we need a ruckmen
The trades I see being done are:
Ottens to Geelong for 16 and pick 7-10
Zantuck to Melbourne for Jolly
Blumfield to Essendon for pick 61
Maybe Hilton for a third round pick
We should end up with 10 or so spots free on the list (not including rookies), and with 8 good draft picks and a couple of players in the PSD we will be set. A lot of blokes have had poor years but should be given a chance to get back to their best while some of our young but established players should be given a chance also under the new coach. I don't think we need to make huge changes this year as it will take a while before most of these kids we draft will be ready. At the end of next year we can reassess the list and move on any players that aren't performing.
Looks like we'll be changing over a quarter of the list in one go, we already have a big crop of under 20's coming through, we can't afford to get rid of too many senior players while all these kids are ready for afl footy.
Anyway, that's my take on what we need through trade week. After that, it's the draft, and a lot of skills training and fitness work. Bring on 2005!

Thank God you aren't negotiating on behalf of the Richmond Football Club! You've by far undersold both Ottens and Pettifer... and oversold Zantuck!
With Ottens, it is about quality, not quantity. Jones and Sinclair are not ever going to be A list players. It is highly unlikely that pick #36 will be either. Stick to 2 first round picks and that's it.
Pettifer finally has taken the step required to make him a regular senior performer - mainly around confidence and maturity - and with his skill, he will be an A list player. As he should be, being taken with such an early pick.
Ruckmen are worth more than undersized key defenders. Therefore, it will take more than just Zantuck to get Jolly here.
The only player trades I would pursue are those that will net us either:
a backup ruckman (Jolly, Simmonds - though the PSD is an option here)
some key defenders - maybe someone like Chris Lamb from Melbourne.
early draft picks - rounds 1 & 2
Unlike our aggression last year, I would expect this year to be fairly benign.
Blumfield delisted champ
No he hasn't. The 6 players were told they were not part of the future at Richmond, not delisted. They will be offered up for trade but Blumfield is the only one who will possibly be picked up. Essendon want him back by the sounds of it and would offer a 4th round pick to get him so he doesn't slip into the PSD. The others will be delisted following trade week.

Blumfield can still be traded, to ensure he gets to the club he deisres (Essendon). If Essendon don't bother to hand over a pick, he enters the draft where anyone can take him. It's only an insurance policy of sorts by Essendon. Miller has said it will be done... a junk (late) pick to guarantee a trip to his desired club.
If you look carefully it says Ottens and draft pick 36 FOR draft pick 10, Sinclair and Jones

We need to keep Pettifer, hes really come along well after being put in the backline. TW will know what to do with him.
Jezza- you are a football god.
You know far more about football than I ever will, I was wrong and you were right. I can only hope to ever be a pale imitation of the football god that you are.
Thank you.
OK, it now looks like we will get Simmonds in a trade with Freo, and with the threat that he will go into the PSD, I think maybe pick 20 will be enough to get this one done quickly.
There is more talk today about Gilbee wanting to come to Richmond, he would be a reasonable pickup, but he's under contract and I wouldn't be overly keen to give up too much to get him.
Now that it seems certain Simmonds is coming, there is no need for Jolly, so it will be interesting to see what we can get in return for Zantuck? Maybe a second round pick from Melbourne to replace the pick we use to get Simmonds?

Players can only be told that they will be delisted.
It takes special permission from the AFL to delist a player mid-season. No player can officially be delisted before the end of trade week. Can't remember the date but a player only becomes delisted if he is not on the list we submit and the list-submission deadline.
We can trade Blumfield anywhere, not just Essendon. It is a matter of two clubs agreeing to a deal and the player signing off on it. If Blumfield is happy to go to Hawthorn we can trade him there if the clubs can do a deal.
As a courtesy we have said to him that if he can organise a club for himself we will take a rubbish pick for him so that he can go to the club of his choice without going into the draft and risk being picked up by someone else. We would extend that same courtesy to any guy we were going to delist but only Blumfield is likely to find a club.
October 31 I believe is list lodgement date.
