Dual All-Australian Joel Smith has decided to remain with the Hawks for the next three years.
The 27-year-old was offered a large three-year deal by Collingwood but has decided to remain with the Hawks, who recruited him from St Kilda in 1988 just months after suffering a serious knee injury.
"It's a tribute to Joel that he has rejected more lucrative offers from other clubs," said Hawk football manager John Hook.
"He'll still be with the club into his 30s and will be an important leader around the place as we set about rebuilding."
The attacking defender finished third in the best and fairest count a week ago and has played 165 AFL games.

A good thing.
I rate him but he is not the type of player we need.

I think both clubs are relieved... ;)
Congratulations Joel - reassuring that loyalty still exists in footy these days.
I'm very interested to see what negative spin Fatpr!ck Smith can put on this one.....

I think he is exactly one of the players you needed, a half bank flanker that can play in the midfield and should be played in the midfield, ogh well badluck collingwood finally we have a player that is loyal that didnt leave for more money.
