View Full Version : Pathetic!!!
ive just joined this site today becuase im extremely angry and frustrated...
i might only be 23 but ive been an essendon member since i was 5 and this is the first time that ive actually been angry at the club...
For so long now , we have been told about our salary cap problems etc etc etc blah blah blah...
This is the first year we have had money, and with a non-competitive midfield and a tall defender in need .. we havent got anything!!!!!!!
What makes it even more frustrating is that Brent Maloney who is a very good player went to Melbourne for pick 12!!!
to make matters worse we don't even have a top 15 pick!!
PATHETIC!!!!!!!!! WE WONT MAKE THE FINALS NEXT YEAR

They tried to get into a few deals but it didnt come off. I doubt that Maloney would have gone anywhere if Geelong didnt go after Ottens.
What do you want? for us to get rid of players like Solomon and co?
They offerd up Johnson, no body is really stupid enough to want our crap so no trades where done.
Exactly how where we going to get some of these players????
and what did i miss? i thought our first pick was 14.

and with an attitude like that i hope your stay is a short one.
You can just pull gun players out of mid air. We have traded heavily in the past few seasons and now is the time to put faith in the younger players.
With Essendon's record during trade week over the last two years it is going to become increasingly more difficult for us to trade, because no one will want to do a deal with us.
I'm happy with our list at the moment. I saw enough of Stanton, Dyson, Laycock, Watson last season to suggest that we helps us improve.
Rama looked brilliant in the last game and if we can get more of that it will be fantastic for this club moving forward. A fit Joel Reynolds and Johns and a quality pick at 14 and we can definately take a step forward next season.

There was nobody decent up for grabs anyway! jeez...Brent Moloney went for pick 12, what an absolute joke, I would be livid if the Bombers had done a similar trade. When players like Ottens and Whitnall are highly chased during trade week you know there ain't much around. Those two have done ded set nothing for 2 years.
Have some faith in Essendon's youth instead of demanding change for the sake of change and an unrealistic quick fix!

Hopefully we have a good run with injuries next year. If we lose Fletch for an extended period of time we could be in huge trouble. We are in the same position now as we were when Wellman was injured. A positive is that the lack of trading may also allow the younger players more regular time on the ground. Maybe Bradley can step up. Our key backman stocks now consist of Fletcher, Lucas (sometimes but leaves a big hole at CHF), Richards (every second week) Henneman, Bradley and Bolton. Any new draftees will most likely take a few years to develop. This is more of a worry than the slow midfield. How would we match up on a team like St Kilda.
must admit when 1st heard no trades little distressed! however i have no fear that we wont make the 8, possibly give the finals a decent nudge like this year. We now need to place some faith in Keps and Laycock and play them regularly this year to give them confidence. Winder has to step up cause hes been given oportunities ahead of others but not really done much yet, would delist walsh and henno and poss haynes depending on what we get in this years draft with our crappy picks!

Agree with most that you said although the Johns comment had me in stitches. Are we entering a team in the wheelchair basketball league? Because thats the only sport Johns will be playing from here on in. The kid is finished and its embarrasing to still hear bomber fansd talk him up.

I can't be assessed with such idiots.
So i'll simply say Sheedy is the best trader in the game and knows more than you, its better not to trade than get riped off.

I've actually held off as much as possible from talking him up.
But the latest reports suggest he will be back and playing by the start of May. So about round 6 we could see him back.
Not hanging my hat on him getting out there, but if he does then it will only be a bonus.
finally the team gets a bit of stability!
Agree with go team here.
But, it is not only stability that we have, it is also flexibility in recruiting, once the delistings have taken care of themselves.
Not overly disappointed..far from it in fact.

Not disappointed at all either.
Why do a trade just for the sake of it.
If you look at the players who were traded today there would probably be only two players that would help Essendon short term in Maloney or Fiora.
Don't get caught up in the trade hype. Journos like to talk it up because it sells a few papers and gets people to listen to their radio shows in an otherwise dull period of the AFL season.
Sheedy likes his players to develop slowly and that is why we make the 8 every year. He only plays them when they are ready to play unlike other clubs (Hawthorn,Richmond) who burn up their youngsters early.
Winderlich and Reynolds will be far better players next year and I still haven't given up on Walsh yet

I know it was pie in the sky...but I would of loved to have traded something to get pick 3 for tambling...
fairy tale i know, but apart from that i wasn't disapointed with trade week at all.
most of the players offered were rubbish and over priced....nathan thompson for 2 first round draft picks? cmon...

Ill take your word for it. The last time i heard anything on Johns was Harvs on radio saying he wouldnt be able to run flat out for a year.

Essendon will make the finals every year, without a doubt. You are the most consistant team in the AFL. All the best for Essendon for the next couple of seasons.
It was like Ottens was an absolute superstar the way everyone was carrying on about him.
He is useless. A player of his size should dominate more than he does and he goes missing in big games. Him an Graham will get along nicely next season.
Glad we left our list as is , bar Henneman and Bolton. Shame we couldn't trick some club into taking them. Perhaps they're all waking up to us! :p

Look if all of the young kids like Laycock, Stanton, Dyson, Watson and Bradley step up a level and players like Hird, Rioli, Cupido, Rama and McVeigh have no injury interuptions and a proper pre season i can only see us getting better. Trading isn't what the club needs at the moment its the general improvment from the young players that this club needs right now.

Need to give a little to get a little and Sheeds wont do it. I want Sooky to coach

And who where we going to pick up????????
I keep seeing all you f*ckwits saying that we are crap, sack Sheedy we should have traded but not one has put up any realistic trades that we should have done (and i am talking realistic here not dreaming stuff like the 1001 Judd trades)
I am still waiting and looking to find these so called star players who had experience and are not too old!
It's called trading, not sacrificing players just for the sake of change.
There were no good trades for us...end of story.

Just out of interest who were our quick midfielders in 2000?
if your an essendon supporter, you would know what changes are needed just like ricketts said.. QUICK MIDFIELDERS!
And the ones you are suggesting are...???
And still no names, all i keep hearing are the areas we need to pick up players for. This is ok i have no problem with the ares suggested but who the f*ck was available for us to realisticly trade for???
You can call us pathetic and say we needed to get a quick players or a back but who was available and who would you have given up.
Players like Lucas, Soloman and Hille where what the other clubs where after, would you have traded some of them away to get someone??
And we did put in an offer for Tenace, although i thought it was over the top.

heres 1 4 ya, its realistic travis johnstone to ess 4 MJ and our 2nd pick. There's a quick polished midfielder we cood have traded 4 possibly

And how many games next year do you think will be decided by whether we had TJ instead of MJ. Improvement comes from the younger guys not trading one inconsistent quick midfielder (and a draft pick) for another inconsistent quick midfielder.
And who's to say the dees would have accepted. If TJ is going to make that much of a difference than why wouldn't melbourne want him? Trading is over hyped.
Trade week is overrated. Teams make the finals based on their recruiting in the draft over a number of years, not by landing a player during trade week. Getting a player during trade week in not the secret to building a good team.
Essendon's teams over the past 10-12 years have been built via recruiting, and the "no-names" we will pick up in the draft this year will soon become the "big names" people seek during trade week in a few years time.
I was looking at some stats the other day, and Essendon, over the last few years have had less rejects from other clubs join us than any other club. That's the way to build good teams. Frankly, I couldn't care less if we never get a player during trade week for the rest of my life.

No-one wants to trade with Essendon. Sheedy has done a good job in the past but has damaged his rep in recent times. Clubs just do not want to know when Essendon knock on the door.
The underhanded stuff he tried to pull off re Scott West is a prime example.
