I know we have a couple Zims + Canadians but is there any rules u must be 90% australian or anything?

Seeing County cricket is just saddening if u were a Englishman. simply making Eng. weaker and other countrys, espcially Australia.

Although unlikly id hate it to happen to us.

One overseas player per side.

Davison and Goodwin qualify as Australians.

The Vics basically refuse to take them, say they are a breeding ground for Australia on the international level and will only play blokes who are eligible to go to the next level

Why don't they drop Elliott then? :D

which is ironic given victoria have produced 2 australian batsman in the last 20 years

i remember when asanka ghurasingha moved to victoria and didn't even get close to selection for the state side

i think its a good idea that australia don't have international players - becaus we only have 6 teams and there is no point keeping potential aussies out of the team and helping non-aussies develop thier game in the best first class competition in the world

tasmania taking on blignaut and WA taking ervine is good though, because those two should be contending to play for australia by the time they are 28-30

Is that the actual rule? Cheers.

I don't see any problem with internationals playing domestic cricket here. I acknowledge there's a downside of taking an Aussie kid's place but the main benefit I see is it can increase the quality of our domestic competition. Give our youngsters the chance to face some higher quality bowling, or bowl to a classy international batsman - gotta help their development.

Yep just have a look at what Andy Flower did last year.

For them to play in the current test side they have to wait 2 years.

In the 70s and 80s some big name imports played in the Shield comp. Botham, Garner, Holding, Richards, Imran come to mind.

But when was the last import to really make an impact at Domestic level in Australia?

I think that is the difference between our system and Englands. Over there Aussies and other imports dominate, and are looked upon mostly as the team's gun bat or bowler. That's miles from being the case here, so much so that we have international players (stars even) playing in grade cricket, not for the cash, but to improve! To me that says heaps about the standard of our domestic cricket and for the sake of the Aus team, it needs to remain that way. As it stands imports are no threat to that.

I think Wayne Clark's approach to Sean Ervine is interesting. Clearly, Clark's said from the outset publicly - Sean, you're going to have to earn your spot in our team. And at present he is grafting away in the Perth grade cricket without a look in as yet. He's young and talented and will get there. But I think as well his game is probably being deconstructed and rebuilt into the Aussie way. We constantly hear about how competitive our cricket is compared to O/S and how mentally it prepares our players for the pressures of Tests etc - I think that is what imports need to appreciate if they're to succeed here. If not it is certainly what they'll learn and take away with them.

On Andy Blignaut, the fat reporter for channel Ten, gave a wonderful pastiche of Billy Birmingham (12th Man) when he quoted "male model Andy Blignaut" (male model from Muggee Kenny Sutcliffe).

Atleast I think it was a homage, either that or the reporter is gay :)

This was on the last tour of the Zimbabweans.
