Both Klinger Peake captained the australian under 19 team yet have not gone on to state level regulars, Peake outside the squad altogether.

I know that junior performance is not axiomatic for state representation, but the correlation is certainly high. Any theories why these players never made the grade, though Klinger has time on his side.

(please be more informative than not good enough, not enough runs ;) )

Quite simply the two of them just weren't good enough and just didn't score enough runs. Oh..you want more than that.

Not sure about Peake, but Klinger scored something like 5 centuries in his last 7 innings in grade cricket last season and has scored one or two already this season. Think he's just unfortunate that Victoria happen to have some of the best batsman in the country right now. Hussey, Moss, Elliott, Hodge, no chance of him sneaking in there.

I believe he was offered a contract in Tassie and would be certain starter in their side but he rejected it. Bet he's still ***** off at Reiffel from that 'declare' incident too.

I'd rather have Klinger or Dart in the side then mr 54 off 278 balls Rummans, his strike rate is worse then Mott,

also McDonald needs to start making some runs

I think it's a good question Blackcat.

I think along those lines why is it that Victoria in recent times does not seem to produce quality batsmen? Obviously the junior talent is there, and the quality of Melbourne grade cricket is certainly good (from what I've heard), but the young batsmen don't seem to be coming through.

Your bowling stocks, including your bowling allrounders, are stacked and that is where your strength is. But I don't think that the Vics batting line up is terribly strong. When you look at it you ask where are the young bats?

Elliott, Hodge - have been around for years.
Hussey - from WA
Arnberger - from NSW
Jon Moss - from NSW (all rounder)
Mott, Rummans - also from interstate - are there no more likely prospects than these blokes?

Harvey, White, McDonald - all rounders

Guys like Joseland, Jewell, Dart, Klinger (others?) are totally unproven and have not established themselves at FC level. Why? Is the grade comp more conducive to producing bowlers than bats?

Klinger's biggest problem as far as I'm concerned is mental. He knows he can play, boy he knows he can play. He thinks that he is too good (rightly so) for Grade cricket and treats the bowling with contempt, making runs in the process. When he gets the chance at the next level, he doesn't have the mental strength to rise to the occasion and buggers it up.

Peake I do not know much about.

Well, there is a flipside to all that. With all these talented interstate players coming to Victoria it makes it very difficult for these local players to get a gig.

Victoria's bowling has always been very strong, but very little with the bat. We have great bowlers, like Warne, Hughes, Fleming, Reiffel, Miller, Dodemaide, O'Donnell, Harvey, the list goes on...but only really Elliott and Jones with the bat.

I have also found that around club cricket at the moment, that there are a lot more talented bowlers around than batsmen, I'm at a loss to explain why this is.
