Can anyone in Tassie confirm if former 1993 Werribee premiership player Ian 'Willow' Wilson is coaching Hobart next year.

Scarecrow can you tells us a bit about Hobart footy club and how they have fared not only historically but over the last few years on the field. I will be interested to see how Willo goes with the club this year.

They made the finals last year, and this year, made last year's Grand Final but were thrashed by North Hobart. I would think with Ian Wilson the mood around the players might change. I was watching them at the TCA Ground when Glenorchy played them, and they seemed down in the dumps. If you asked SOUTHERN TIGER, he could give a better run down on their list few years.

thanks for that Scarecrow. Didn't realise they had made last years grand final. Sounds like Willo has bit to work with.

No Problem, I am sure he is the right man for the job, got a decent looking list, just needs a coach to put it together.

Correct, Ian Wilson is the Hobart Senior coach next year as Crowy said.
Hobart's lost a couple of players at the end of 2004 but seem certain to pick up a few from other clubs, and from what I can gather, the players seem happy with the appointment.

Hobart Football Club's SFL History
2004: (5th) Lost Elimination Final to Kingborough by 35-points. Overall, a disappointing season for the club, never threatened at any stage despite a good list.

2003: (2nd) Lost Grand Final to North Hobart by 110-points. Won 2 from its last 10 going into the finals and beat Glenorchy (Elimination Final) by 22-points, New Norfolk (1st Qualifying Final) by 51-points and Clarence (Prelim Final) by 1-point. Ran out of gas at the end of a tiring finals campaign.

2002: (7th) Failed to make the finals. (7-10-1)

2001: (5th) Lost 2nd Qualifying Final to Brighton by 1-point, after coming from well down to beat Cygnet by 23-points in the First Elimination Final the previous week.

2000: (3rd) Minor Premiers. Lost 1st QF by 1-point to New Norfolk, beat Cygnet by 70-points the following week, and lost the Preliminary Final to Kermandie by 8-points the week after. Won 12-in-a-row (Club Record) during the season but was hard hit by injuries late in the year.

1999: (1st) Lost only two games all year, and completely dominated the SFL and won 18 matches to take out the Premiership over Brighton by 51-points in the Grand Final.

1998: (9th) Hobart's first year in the SFL, had a very young list of basically amatuer players and won just four games for the year. Finished 3rd last.

Hobart Football Club was founded on the 19th December 1944 and was a charter member of the TFL from 1945-1997, when it faced extinction due to its modest supporter base and poor financial state at the time.
The club never won a game in 1997 in either the Senior or Reserve grade in its final year in the TFL.
The club has had a massive drop-off in crowds/membership numbers due to the fact that it lost its traditional colours and nickname (Tigers) in 1998, because of a conflict with already SFL established club Kingston, when it joined the SFL in 1998.
The club has established a new coterie group of businessmen (mostly former players) to try and raise the professionalism within the club and raise funds.
It had an average home crowd of around 240 this year in the AFL Southern Tasmanian Premier League.
