when Australians are accused of sledging, there is a collective national wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth, letters to the editor, holier than thou radio talking heads, and tut tutting from all and sundry.....

but an Indian (Singh to be precise) can go on and on and on and on and on..... sledging and verballing and bad mouthing, but hardly a word?

This guy is a disgrace and should be censored, however the governing body of cricket is so s. hite scared of the power of the Indian rupee and the repercussions of bring Indian players to heel, nothing is done.

The Asian cricket nations also raise the spectre of racism when something goes against them. Take the rants of Sri Lankans over their chucking spinner.

I for one am sick of our players being singled out when players from all nations sledge.

Hows about a bit of consistancy hey?

However for a sledge you cant go past Gilchrist to Singh when Singh was batting in the WC final. Singh was as usual chirping and Gilchrist just said to him "best thing I did all day was to get out to you". Absolute classic if one remembers that Marto and Punter went on to an unbroken 234 partnership guaranteeing the WC victory even before the indians batted.

I couldn't have said it any better myself. Apparantly we are rude racist slanderous sledging pigs, any time we open our mouths, but the gutless ICC let India, Sri Lanka and the Paki's run riot over them. Its ridiculous.

Honestly though, look at our competition in international Cricket.

New Zealand and England are cold, small and always raining. They should be building Telstra dome like stadiums all over the country, but they're too stupid to think of it!

West Indies use to be good but now the've gone awol.
The rest are either poor, poluted, war ravaged or all three!

If we take away their right to sledge, you'll just make their lives even more miserable. ;)

I don't agree with some of our sledging (it can be slightly over the top) but it has been a key intimidation tactic and we are number one as a result.

The only reason why I object to Singh's actions is the way he carries on when he gets a wicket- the old phrase "gracious winner" does not apply to this guy.

I miss the West indies. I can't see them ever returning to a power in world cricket.

joffaboy - surely from your interactions with total package you should understand that in the sterilized modern society, white person abusing non-white = punishment, non-white abusing white = ignorable

Singh looks like he is having fun and the Aussies take it to seriously especially when they launch all out personal attacks on batsman

A racist is a racist, i couldn't care less if they are white, black, brown or brindal.
I've pointed out to some idiot Indians on another forum that what they were saying about Australians was racist and implied genetic superiority. they couldn't come to grips with being labelled with what they lazily call anyone white who they dont agree with.

But it has to do more with the totally gutless ICC and the way they caved in the Mike Deness scandal. Money talks over everything, and in India it talks loud.

As for Total_Dudd aka Frank Matera, his views on race are that of a simpleton, which suprises me because he has actually got some intelligence. Unfortunately his half cocked and simplistic views are shared by many who haven't thought the issues through.

I'll give my honest opinion now. Alot of the countries lack self-esteem and would probably take any suggestions from the ICC as racist. Some of these countries are so **** up with racial issues (eg. Zimbabwe and South Africa) that they would probably go ape s*** if the ICC said, "be nice to the (white) Aussies". You can't reason with them and the ICC know this. That's why Australia is responsible for setting examples in world cricket. Other countries look up to the aussie team to achieve perfection. So it's for the best if Australia display good sportsmenship at all times.

How come is it when Aussies sledge it is just tough cricket and when the opposition whinge about it they are whingers.

BUT

When the Aussies get sledged you all have a whinge about it, and about double standards.

I don't really recall any major penalties against the Aussies? Most criticism is from INSIDE Australia because people want them to hold a certain level of respect.

Anyhow, with all the mental confusion over walking and sledging, roll on the Ashes I say. Aussies will not be sledging at 0-4 so at least you can look forward to a series without that criticism :D

The difference is Harbhajan is the only Indian I can think off who mouths off whereas basically every Aussie except Martyn and probably Hayden mouth off.

Have you actually been watching the cricket? Not only Singh, but Patel (and his replacement), Zaheer, Dravid, Irfan and Agarkar have all had a pretty good dip. As for the Aussies, you have no idea. Hayden is one of the biggest sledges out there. You may have missed it, as the Aussies, besides Pidge, are very suttle. I have no problem with sledging, but Singh is way over the top. It will not be long before someone takes a swing at him. Hopefully, the next time India tour, Singh will be fit, so MOST of the crowd can tell him what they think of him.

The thing that annoyed me the most about Singh was his clapping of Warne when he hit that six in one of the early tests. The commentators at first though he was clapping his own shot, but it turned out he was clapping Warne for getting to 2/100. Considering that he's got a century himself, numerous times on this tour, I thought that that was an exceptionally prickish thing to do. A w@nker of the highest order.

Harbhajan Singh acts like an absolute traditional annoying smartass, and no one likes an annoying smartass.

Loved how he went wicketless, implode, you moron.

The whinging in this country about player behaviour continues, despite the huge improvement that has occurred since the WI tour last year. (Remember McGrath threatening to tear Sarwan limb from limb? Harbhajan v Anybody doesn't compare with that).

But then it was only two years ago that Lehmann got pinged for saying that the Sri Lankans were "******* dark *****", so I can understand why the pessimism remains. We don't have a great record when it comes to our playings stepping overboard and saying stuff that's patently gross, so it will take time for our reputation to improve.

That said, it does annoy me that the race issue is raised everytime Murali gets called a chucker or something goes against the wishes of the BCCI or PCB, and yet we still have the unresolved area of a Zimbabwe team selected by its government on race.
