Shaun has left us to go to the Family First party and now it's copping a beating, he just can't win right now
Family First 'does not own God' (http://www.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,4057,11315903%255E421,00.html)
THE Labor Party has launched a stinging attack on Family First, branding it the "Assemblies of God party" over its Christian roots.
Opposition foreign affairs spokesman Kevin Rudd said Labor would not stand by while Family First or other conservative party claimed God as a "wholly-owned subsidiary".
As a member of the family first party, comments like this mean nothing. The labor party is a little bit worried at the amount of votes to FFP after just 6 weeks of existance.

As a foundation member of the Brisbane Bears we have admired Shaun for many years for his football and his courage. He has been a leader for many young people and his openess about his religuos convictions has endeared him to many. However in joining a poliitical party hs must now accept the resposiibilites that this entails. Minor parties usually are reported in the media only when they or their supporter say or do something extreme and this creates anger and distrust in the wider community
Comments such as you speak about may not hurt supporters but I am sure that by now Shaun himself will have experienced many personal hurts and disappointments as he realises that even friends and family may not necessarily support him in the political arena.
Often with minor parties they are seen as extreme by those who do not agree and create a "if your not with us you are against us" scenario (like One Nation) and this generates real antagonism in the wider community. I saw this at the Polling booths on Election day, where those who wanted to take Family First how to vote cards where very open and happy to demonstrate their voting intentions, on the other hand I saw the dislike demonstrated by
by others, such as I only saw previously when One Nation was at its peak.
It would not surprise me if Shaun discovered at a later date that he can actually have more influence as a high profile person admired by all than he will within a minor party disliked by many, and having to carry the baggage that goes with this.
Family First is now in the political arena and will be suject to many attacks from many sides, that is the nature of poiitics.

I think this says more about those making the attacks than those who are members of fringe parties. Shaun Hart is well respected by just about everyone even though they may not share his religious beliefs because of his genuine sincerity.
If he is now attacked for them it demonstrates a level of bigotry I was hoping did not exist in this community.

Please define what Family First means in reality.
