But if we wanted to use pick 35 in the November Draft what is the latest date we would need to delist him?
For mine I think pick 35 will be worth a lot more than a pre-season draft pick.

I think we can use pick 35 now as we put primus on vet list

Gotta say that I can't remember as being unconcerned about whether someone signed or not, as I am with Schoey. Guess it's because of the depth of our list now.....
Yep, same here. When Flash was leaving it was the end of the world.
We have to lodge our final pre-draft lists on the 12th, so I would say we'll know either way by them. Collingwood delisted Mark McGough recently under similar circumstances, so they could have a national pick rather than pre-season.

Exactly, and I was one of those who at the start of 2004 believed him to be an important player given the fact we had Francou on the sidelines and Stevens had left.
Times change. I would almost be inclined now to suggest that him leaving the club might be good for us, especially for the development of our young midfielders.

It's a sign of the times that we're all more interested in 'which pick" we get, rather than when/if he re-signs.

I think its just the after-effects of what we've gone through in recent years.
Fabian Francis, our gun wingman at the end of 2001 decides he wants more money and runs off to Freo. We all assume that we're doomed. Hey, we're minor premiers in 2002!
Nick Stevens, our gun midfielder at the end of 2003 decides he wants more money and wants to run off to Collingwood. We all are a bit more confident of covering him, but it still doesn't look good. Hey, we're premiers in 2004!
This year Josh Carr, our gun midfielder at the end of 2004 decides he wants more money and to play with his brother. We are all pretty confident of covering him, but back-to-back still looks difficult. Hey we're (********) in 2005!
Now after all that, a 29 year old receiving half-forward decides he wants an extended contract or he's off to Freo.....after those hits we've taken previously, and our subsequent success....why would we be even a little worried about it?
Its nothing to do with us being the ones treating players like its a meat market - this is on the back of certain players themselves deciding that this is a meat market; that staying with the club means nothing and that you should always chase the buck and the best interests of the individual....so *** 'em.

Ah yes, the old "club is bigger than the individual" :)

I completely understand why the club don't want a 2 year with him. Its only his Age. Look at Paco, basically told him to retire. He had his ups and down games but in the end, the younger players need a go.
Although i'm a big fan of Schoey and he's had a lot of good games for the club, but last year he differently didn't achieve much to impress the club to show that even at his age he can still do the job as well as a younger player. Think he has to realise that and either take the one year and be run off the bench again or leave. And maybe do what PJ says- what is good for the club? leaving? or staying?

On that, i'd prefer McGough to Schoey

Well said. Team is more important than individual. We won a premiership that way and with that culture and we will continue to think that way. Not only as a club but as supporters. Remember also, we covered a lot of serious injuries this year and the young ones have to stand up sooner or later and it may as well be sooner.
Don't get me wrong, I like Schoey, but 2 years was always out of the question.

Looking at our list at this stage, having a bit of a think,.................
it's been fun Schoey, thanks for your contributions, but goodbye, and oh yeah, careful of the door on your way out.
enter stage National Draft, another new potential gun

I think in this next two years we will need to recruit a player who can perform the Stevens/Schofield finishing role. Both at their bext frustrated us with their softness, but were good link players. It takes all kinds to contribute to a champion team, so we should be on the lookout for a wingman/midfielder with similar qualities (tougher preferably ;) ).
I just don't know about McGough. There are some things to admire, but he isn't what we are looking for, and we can do better, much better. Our depth is really good atm, so the emphasis should be on bringing potential and talent to the squad that is as good as we can find so that we are still strong in 2007 and beyond. Bandaid players are not currently required IMO.

Agreed. If say we did draft McGough, he'll be another one that might get wasted away in the SANFL because of our list of younger players (midfield/in&under). We have a lot of talent waiting to get ago. I'm sure if Schoey is leaving he will be replaced by one of the young ones we've got on the current list.

McGough doesn't fill enough of a need, I don't think.
If Schoey goes, then it just means that Danny Meyer gets an earlier opportunity. ;)
