I was in another thread and it got me to remembering the time I played on a ground which joined the Yatala Prison complex in Adelaide. A nice hook shot sent the ball over the fence and the guards had to throw it over or you had to get a new ball.

Another ground was so small a block went for 4

The worst ground I played on was at an agricultural college..they let the sheep on during the week and they left the droppings everywhere..diving to stop a ball was hazardous..explaining to my mum why my cricket stains were brown and not green was another

I once played on a ground where the pitch ran east-west.

I played on a ground in England where it was on that much of a slope that if you hit it to the boundary on the west it would get half way up and roll back down the hill.

Weird.

I once played on a ground which was so uneven, if you stood on the boudary at square leg, you could only see the batsman from his knees up.

Fitzroy Cricket Club in Adelaide?

Was hard chasing a ball to the boundary..instead of slowing down it sped up..and mid off couldnt see fine leg

Played on a ground in junior cricket were two grounds over lapped. So we had a fieldsman from the other game standing at deep-midwicket on our ground with his back to our game.

My old home ground was at a primary school where about 15m from the boundary line there was a sand pit. If the ball went in the sand pit it had to be given as a four.
Looked rather unusual seeing blokes diving to stop the ball going in the sand pit.

I also played on an east west pitch at the back of Trinity College, Gawler. Absolute shocking ground, the grass was so thick and chubnky ur foot sank to above the ankles and no matter how hard u smashed it along the ground it barely went 10m....a joke, u either smashed a 6 or took a single.....and bolwing into the sun was a pain as was facing it even later in the day when the sun was barely above the bowlers arm.

Played on the smallest ground Ive seen at Rostrevor College, I think its called Bungalow and aptly named too, u could hit a 6 over 4 of them.

Also at St. Peters we had a concrete pitch in between 2 ovals, sometimes we played on this and without markings for boundaries it was a pain to say what a 4 was or wasn't

Also bowled on a pitch that had something spilt onto it....not sure what maybe some sort of varnish but there was a bright orange/browny stain about 30cmx 40cm around the area short of a length. Good to aim for tho, and it made the ball skid like hell.

The ground I was supposed to play on last weekend is apparently on a slope and is unsafe for football and the ball runs to the boundary then runs back at you. Thankfully the whole round was washed out

i've played on a ground where a mans property which is between 2 ovals petrudes onto the ground, so the ground has a little kink in it so we aren't playing on his land...

Ridge Park near the corner of Glen Osmond and Cross Road in Adelaide.

It has a bloody ridge along one boundary. Problem is the ground is so small they have to put the boundary on the top of the ridge.

Played with the great Santos L Helper on that ground. (How's that for name dropping!)

played at a ground at xavier that was tiny played a reverse sweep that flew for four on it in year 7. also at faulkner park in year 6 i hit a shot that hit the trees and hit the other side of the footpath on the full but was only 4... apparently you had to hit it over the footpath

When I was playing for my school, the pitch (concrete) was waterlogged, so for some reason they thought that they could play in a small area near the carpark (this was adjacent to a soccer field). And the worst bit about this was by the time we came back next week, we didn't have the same conditions.

Olinda Cricket Club in the hills overlooking Melbourne has a 2nds ground that is called the Potato Chip. Grab a Pringles & you will see what I'm talking about.
