Vardon departs as head of Centrelink

Centrelink chief executive Sue Vardon has become the first high profile resignation since the federal government said it would shake up service delivery following the election.
Human Services Minster Joe Hockey said Ms Vardon had done an outstanding job in establishing Centrelink over the past eight years, and he respected her decision to return home to South Australia to be with her family.
"Ms Vardon was critical to the successful establishment of the customer-focused organisation that Centrelink is today," Mr Hockey said.
"Centrelink serves a third of Australia's population and Ms Vardon has done a great job in building the organisation into the human face of government that is respected around the world."
Earlier this year Ms Vardon was awarded an Order of Australia for service to the development and delivery of community support services and for contributions to public sector governance.
