Of course Bate is a worthy winner - he had a good year and he picked up the most votes under the voting system as it is.

However, like the Brownlow, the Morrish Medal can sometimes throw up surprising results. Who would have thought Mungara Brown would win last year - general feeling from most was Colin Sylvia was clearly best in the comp. The Morrish hasn't throw up many champions in the past 5 years - Rodan has plateaued at Richmond, Brown went to VFL, Shackleton has been delisted after 2 yrs at Collingwood.

Personally I rate the coaches award more highly, but there is a place for an umpires award as well. Whoever plays fair and square in their eyes gets the trophy.

erm

Kick over 100 goals including hawls of 5, 6, 6. Be one of the most liked players at the club for over 8 years. And still be a vital member of our VFL team.
