finally somebody backs me up on the obese idol claims
The two finalists this year wouldnt even had made last years top ten. I feel sorry for Casey because she is too young and cant show her personality and is going to be forced into being something shes not, most likely to crash and burn. Anthony is just a little queer, full of himself. He will do well thanks to young girls but will get very boring very quickly.

Wrong again Ted.
The only winners are the Producers and Distribuation companies.
Oh and the people who are lucky enough to not be shown on TV.
I regulary get people saying I should go on Aus Idol.
That's usually the last thing they say to me

Anthony will probably win , I'm sure more kids will start smoking to stunt there growth if he does or if Casey gets up they'll start gorging themselves on cakes.
Afterall there has been a sharp increase on people who look like giant bugs , have afro's and are virgins (or maybe that goes hand in hand)after last years Idol.
The two finalists this year wouldnt even had made last years top ten. .
Nah , both of them at the very least have more talent than Shannon Noll.

I couldn't care less about that money hungry, ratings driven show. The thing that makes me laugh is thousands of people continually support these shows by giving them money when they make SMS and telephone votes. The show is taking the community for a ride and pocketing plenty of money from the viewers.

Strict commercialism, nothing more.
To see who had the best singing voice should not have been decided by the nation. Most had not a clue and this is why this whole idol idea is a farce.
I hope Casey wins. Out of the 2, she has the better voice and also has a better range than Anthony. Anthony was brilliant at opera and he was fantastic, but he sees himself as a backstreet boy wannabe rocker and simply can not cut the mustard as well as Casey does.
I think it's time they had real judges who did the voting and then the real talent will be revealed till then, it will continue to be a farce.
And before anything is said, I have 27 years as a musician behind me and feel I have the right to express my opinion on the matter.
I was spewing I missed the audition coz I was in Melbourne watching Saint Kilda spank West Coast :( I would have beaten fatty belattis

Where's the "Who cares?" option?
Neither of the 2 finalists will be the 'real' winner.
A couple of those who were voted out the past few weeks will do better in the long run, as they won't be tied to BMG, will have their independence and will be able to pick and choose what they do (and make a percentage off every album/single sold)
I'm pretty sure that the eventual winner of Idol has to sell 400K copies before they start making a cent from music sales - have to rely on endoresements etc to make a crust.

I have 30 years as a musician behind me and I disagree. Ultimately it is going to be the Australian public who buys the records and so why shouldn't they be the ones to choose who they would rather listen to?
Secondly, musical ability is not the only ingredient in a successful music career. There are other things like charisma, marketability and public appeal. There have been singers in the past (e.g Kylie, Madonna and others) who made it big time as much through these things as their singing ability. Again, the Australian public are the ones who are in the best position to decide if a particular person has these things.
If you don't like the show don't watch it but don't deride others who do.

Yeesh people.
Here's a big shock for you all - it's a piece of fluff tv. People watch it because it's fun, not because we think these people are the musical saviours of this country.
The people who are the target audience are those who buy pop music, and they are teenagers and young adults and mostly female. So don't be surprised if you are a male who's over 25 who doesn't like it. And there's a real easy solution - don't watch it!
For many of you who don't like pop music in it's top 40 sense, you won't have to hear them on radio etc, because you'll be listening to a different radio station, you won't buy their singles, albums etc.
It's actually a totally fair competion and has integrity because the people who vote and make the decision are those who will buy the songs and the merchandise etc! Pop music will always sell and attract an audience so it's not surprising that record companies invest in programs like this. It's sad that it happens at the expense of great bands like You Am I, but in the corporate world, record companies like everyone else want a quick profit.
It's irrelevant too who has the best voice, because it's not what it's about. It's about image, it's about appeal. That's what a lot of "pop" music is based on. Please don't try to convince me that Britney Spears has a great voice or even Madonna...but they both know how to appeal to a market and release good pop songs. That's what this competition is about.
*I'm not saying it's necessarily a good thing it's not about good voices*
As I've stated previously, I'm addicted to Australian Idol but on the whole I'd never listen to anything they release (okay...apart from my beloved Shannon) because I'd rather listen to Australian music like Alex Lloyd or Epicure or You Am I or anything from that genre. For me it's a reality tv show just like Survivor or the Amazing Race with a few talented (whether you like their style or not, most of them have talent) people singing.
Lidge makes an excellent point - you're actually better off losing the competition in many respects!
Nah , both of them at the very least have more talent than Shannon Noll.
Very true, it's quite befuddling how he came second last year, it must be that image thing Roo Bunny talked about.
As for this year's Idol, as I've said before, my interest has gradually waned over the series, to the point where the thought of either contestant winning doesn't fill me with any joy (and this is coming from a person who likes the Australian Idol concept). Anthony is nauseating while Casey's personality and style of music is so far removed from my own.
It's impossible to root for one of them and I can't sit on the fence and say music is the winner either! :p
I dont want to get into a rant on the concept of Australian Idol but you cannot help but hate it. You can go and see an average local band who possess so much more talent and natural ability than those on Australian idol, I suppose some people believe in taking shortcuts and that is all the show is.

The only people that are bigger "losers" than those that watch the show are those that spend their time doing nothing but complain about it. This thread has more posts from people who don't even watch the show (or claim not to) than those that do and answer what the thread actually asks.
All this whinging is so petty and pathetic. Just get over the fact that people like a show that you don't. Why don't you just go and contribute to a thread on a show that you watch so you can actually contribute something constructive rather than filling up threads with this nauseating b*tching and moaning.

Au contraire, it wasn't image. Sure he was good looking but as someone who thought he was great it was about the way he sang songs, he managed to really get emotion into a song, whether it was sorrow, cheeky or sexy, he pulled it off, he could make you believe he could feel the lyrics of the song. What About Me as the perfect example.
In no way was he as a good a singer as others, but he connected with the song and the audience and made you care.

that may be the case, but personally, i have heard everyone that "rooted" for Shannon did so because they felt sorry for him. Which is a deplorable act in a TALENT competition....sure personality and background does come into contention, but you cannot be voting for someone for the pure fact that you feel sorry for him. It's disgraceful. Shannon Noll should thank his fans he got second, because there is no way he deserved it. If he won, it would have been the biggest shame in Australian history. You could even tell the judges knew Guy should have won...how?, because of the tears of joy that Marcia shed at the finale, the way Mark Holden and Dicko showed themselves that night. They knew Guy was truely deservent of the title, and they were happy that Australia got it right.

I was going to disagree with you using comments from Mark Holden himself, and from being part of a group that were actively voting for Shannon - feeling sorry for him had nothing to do with it (I felt sorrier for Rebekah) - that's SAFM propaganda, but now I've noticed your location, I know we're never going to agree anyway - so there's not much point! :)
I do think Guy was a truly deserving winner actually. He's very talented.

While I agree with you that it was right that Guy won, (I wanted him to win all series).. I did vote for Shannon, not because I felt sorry for him (In a way I did, but diddums to him, everyone has it tough at some stage of their life) but because I thought he was very talented.. and he deserved his second spot and everything that has come along with it.
IMO, Australia got it right last year. Pity that can't be said for this year though.

Hmmm, well, I'll take your word for it, but if you think his good-looking, country-lad-doing-it-tough image didn't play a HUGE part in getting him second place, you're dreaming. Obviously you personally didn't feel this way, and sure, all the contestants had an image and a fan base built around it, but IMO, Shannon's persona got more votes for him than anything else.
I just think it's a bit laughable that Shannon got 2nd in that top 12 last year, however, this is only one opinion and variety is the spice of life after all.
BTW, nothing against him personally, he's probably a great bloke and I'm glad his recording contract can now help to provide for his family.

Thanks for the lecture, but I don't want it.
Good to see you added untalented hacks like Madonna and Kylie as your arguement for talent. If Bubblegum, trash pop is your style, I am happy for you, but when real talent on a program like Idol is overlooked for trash, then I still believe the public have it wrong.
I have not once derided anyone who watches it, I merely pointed out that the real talent has been eliminated and the winners worthy will not win the ultimate prize.
If you like to lecture anyone, please do towards those who have called a couple of the contestants lardasses and so forth.
I would loved to have a Courtney or Casey in my band regardless of weight.
