View Full Version : Should the Dockers play their games at their own ground?

Fremantle: 6-6 at Subiaco last year. Home ground advantage? Nil.
Should the Dockers fans pack up their inflatable anchors and their bell and move to alternate digs?
Let me know your thoughts.
As soon as I see any evidence of any thoughts from yourself, I'll be happy to respond.

I think they should move to Fremantle Oval.
Reasons:
1) Their headquarters, clubrooms, gym etc are there
2) They might have a chance of selling out a non-derby home game at Fremantle Oval
3) Easy access to Centrelink, Salvation Army Men's Home etc

Centrelink: Isn't that Port come on!
Fremantle should play out of the District Court or the local TAB.

If the Dockers played out of the District Court it would cost Farmer two grand every time he showed up for a game.
West Fremantle.

He is going to have to pay it anyway so why not just play their and save on transport costs.
Johnny Farnham is even re writing his classic "Pressure Down" to mark the historic move:
"Set the domestic fights in motion
watch defactos hit the ground
A player attacking is a crazy notion
Yet the press spreads it round the town.
Bring the gavel down
Coz they can feel it rising like their fists
Take all the appeals and turn em down
Yeah, Bring the gavel down
Freo home life is full of danger
Partners now lead seperate lives.
Defacto frightened by a player
With desperation in his eyes.
Bring the gavel down
Coz they can feel it rising like their fists
Take all the appeals and turn em down
Yeah, Bring the gavel down
Someone slammed the gavel down
Player fined and a bit of money gone.
And he was caught on TV in a two horse town
The media won't let things slide until the gavel comes down.
Oh
The player tells his story
Then tries to hide in shame
Their home is now the courthouse and "Defendants" their new team name.
Bring the gavel down
Coz they can feel it rising like their fists
Take all the appeals and turn em down
Yeah, Bring the gavel down"

Subiaco.
C'mon Connolly's back yard would have to be a contender, with its Jadan spa.

I voted for CC's back yard, but I'm just not convinced. Diagonally over the back from his place there's a rottie who by all accounts chews merry hell out of the sherrin whenever it's kicked over the fence.
Also, on CC's street I happen to note that Alf at no. 13 built a lean-to in the late 50's at the back of the house which he shares with his wife Beryl, for which he never got approval. He's a little concerned that all the publicity and media attention could have an impact and lead him to get into deep doo-doo with his council.
BHR, I think, to be safe maybe they should just remain at Subi.

But what about the corporate boxes they're building under the Hills Hoist? :(

I'm concerned about transporting the anchor to CC's place. There's no room in the shed to keep it there and backing it into his drive for each game would be a b*gger. The drive is long, narrow and the hot water heater juts out. Also the drive starts off with a steep lip from the road. I couldn't do it.
What about renaming Subiaco 'Colonial Stadium' now that that name is no longer being used? Back to Subiaco for west Coast games of course.

Hamilton Hill Primary School's Footy Oval, where the players would fit in best.

Bump - Given Freo are 0 from 2 at Subiaco this year and are languishing near the bottom of the ladder, maybe it's time the Dockers gave some thought to forging an identity of their own and moving to Fremantle Oval. Like the Dockers themselves, it's of average, suburban-level quality.
All their facilities are there - why not save the money the Dockers are currently paying to the WA Football Commission to use Subi Oval? God knows they'll need the money if they keep on having to fly players to Melbourne every Monday to "testify" before the MRP.
Worth a thought I'd say. :thumbsu:

If the question is serious I would have to ask "Would Fremantle Oval , or wherever their training ground is, have the facilities to cope with the crowd they would get for a derby against the Eagles ?" I doubt it.

Bus ticket?! Obviously you don't live in Perth.
Connolly travels to the match on a purple-and-ermine-upholstered sedan chair carried on the shoulders of the cheer squad. After all he is the greatest coach ever to coach the Dockers... even better than Neesham AND Drum!
15km up Stirling Hwy with Cuddles on their shoulders by gee it's a wonder they even had the puff left to drag that styrofoam anchor through the middle of the West Coast warmup last Saturday night!

Well now you know better. If by chance you end up in Perth's western suburbs in winter around 2 hrs before a Dockers bounce-down, and you see a cheeky-faced, chubby doe-eyed personage being carried down the highway, it's NOT Angela Lansbury from "Murder She Wrote" but Cuddles Connolly.
Give him a smile and a rousing "heave ho".
