Might have some competition from Crosthwaite. Havent seen him bat but from what I have seen his keeping is bloody awesome.

Chris Hartley is the next Chris Hartley.

He may turn out to be as good as Adam Gilchrist (unlikely though).

Agreed. Crosthwaite looks like he can more than handle the gloves and looks to have a bright future. However in the current cricket climate the keeper needs to be able to bat (thanks Gilly), so even if he is the best gloveman in the country, if he can't bat then he may not get a chance. From what I have heard of Hartley he can swing a bat quite well, so that could quite possibly tip the scales in his favour.

Yep a real gilly. Strike rate of 39.76 :p

Hartley, Crosthwaite and Ronchi look like the three to watch out for.

Pity none of them can command a regular first class spot yet.

Dont look at hartleys strike rate. The point is he can bat (not as good as gilly in terms of strike rate yet but he can make teams chase leather) and his keeping is first rate. Hartley is playing in qld's next game because secombe is injured so look out and see how he goes.

Still early days isn't it? I mean 4 innings and already has a ton - which is a good start. But for the other 3 innings gives him a total of 31 runs!

He may (continue to?) prove himself, but give him a few more matches before claiming he'll be the next Gilly.

At least he can keep hold of the ball behind the wicket ... better than others in another thread going on at the mo

Well the 3 of them are very young and Crosthwaite is unlucky that Berry got so injured last year whilst he was away so Roach had a chance to get a 2nd life when Berry retired otherwise Crosthwaite would hold the spot no problems right now. Cant see Crosthwaite taking Roach's spot for a while as Roach is a very reliable batsman and now Pilon is coming through, it is the strongest Victoria has been in terms of keepers and possibly the country. Not a good time to be a keeper

How old is Roach?

Crosthwaite should look to move states.

DaveW

I can't understand why Pilon moved to Victoria.

eddiesmith
18 Nov 2004, 00:02
SA would be the only state he would get a game at as a keeper. But he could get a game in the Vics OD side as a batsman

Of course he had to move as it is an embarrassment to be behind Haddin

eddiesmith
18 Nov 2004, 00:08
BTW, Roach is 29. But SA is the only other state that Crosthwaite could get a game for but why leave as he is guaranteed the OD team keeping for all games and why would he want it all at his young age yet anyway?

GrahamH

But he is further behind the pecking order in Victoria. I can understand him being ********ed off about being behind Haddin but its hardly an enhancing career move. Crosthwaite and Pilon would both be very welcome to move to SA ;)

But neither Crosthwaite or Roach are set in stone as keepers yet for some reason Haddin is

Still has the opportunity to play as a batsman as they are playing him in 2nd XI games as a batsman and sharing the keeping

Hartley will be the next long term keeper from QLD- comparing him to Gilly is a huge call.

He did play very well last season when Wade was out- he gets another chance for the next couple of matches with Seccombe out due to a bike injury.

I'm going with Crosthwaite to be our next keeper.

Gilchrist is the proverbial once in a generation player.

Not only do Australia's top 6 average more than any other team but they have a genuine star batsman at 7.

No, Im not a Victorian (hate Victorians as a matter of fact) but I know talent when I see it and Crosthwaite (as a keeper) is very bloody good

Haven't heard much from Hartley in recent times, though Berry wrote in The Age on Sunday that our crop of keeping understudies aren't too shabby.

He bats too low for QLD, sometimes at 8, it's ridiculous.

If they had Johnson and Bichel playing he would be batting around number 9. In the past seasons, Noffke and Bichel used to bat ahead of him.

Yeah it's bull, this guy could ave in the low 30s if he's allowed to construct a proper innings.

This is when LTD couldn't spell and Wade Seccombe was still keeping for QLD, what a legend!
