Excuse me, it's only a second rate talent show, admittedly with high ratings, but I find it appalling that it is getting so many wraps in the local news and current affair shows (esp Today Tonight in Melb.) and frankly it's getting out of hand. I've never watched an episode in my life, yet those progandarists who produce Idol have managed to put Idol in n early all the news outlets possible, I'm amazed that there has been no mention of it in the Herald Sun today.
It's getting totally out of control, even during normal tv shows like the Simpsons we have pop up ads of it during the program, which is really annoying.
My point is that we are being forced fed to notice an amateur show (because all the contestants who appear on that show are, and without any talent whatsoever as far as I can tell) and it amazes me why an ugly fat chic is getting so much media attention, when there are far more worthy stories that should be bought to the public attention.
Thousands of people are being slaughted daily in Iraq and yet all we hear is IDOL, IDOL, IDOL ..
As Mugatu says at the end of Zoolander ....
'I feel like I'm taking crazy pills'
And don't get me started on the farce that was Jess and Martin's wedding.
C10 esp should be ashamed of themselves, this reality tv glitz is turning me off TV for good, and now I'm buying DVD TV box sets of decent shows, like Frasier, Buffy, Stargate, Simpsons, Dr Who etc to escape the crap like AI and Big Brother.
Enough's enough !

And it's not just the channel 10 news/current affairs shows, i'm sure it's been popping up on channel 9 news too. can't wait until it's over.

If doing a story on Idol gets people watching, they'd be crazy not to go with it. Fact of life, Idol is very popular at the moment.

It's quite simple, because it's Australia's top rating TV show which means people want to see it

People are being killed by the thousands in wars overseas (esp. Iraq), scientists are doing immoral tests by injecting Monkeys with HIV (a totally disgusting act against our animal friends) and this country is obessing over an amateur song contest with people with little to no talent at all..
Don't get me wrong, I love Eurovision, that contest has people with talent and is probably worth a spot in the news (towards the end) but this Australian Idol madness is going to far and driving me nuts.
It's becoming an unhealthy obession for some people.\

It's all down to Promotion, PR & more Promotion baby...the only ones who, IMO, will benefit in the long run from the whole Hoo Haa are the Suits @ Ch 10 who would be raking in the advertising dollar, the suits (AGAIN) @ wotever music company releases the winners album which will be bought by the gullible and 'phone companies - sending sms is not a freebie..
TV land is all about ratings and $$$$$$$. The suits don't give a rats about some kid who has dreams and a modicum of talent - they just use them for their own greed. :o

Yes it is a popular show but how many people are NOT watching it! Plenty, including myself.
The fact Channel 9 and 7 are getting in on the act with thier "current affairs" shows is just as poor.
I am sick of Idol and the Big Brother thing as well.

Big brother has gone down hill as well, they better not bring it back, wasn't that the last one?
