Hawthorn will be clearing at least 6 players at season's end to make way for new recruits and draftees.

They may clear more than this, but I think 6 should suffice... Tony Woods (retire), Anthony Rock (retire), Matthew Dent, Aaron Lord, Chris Obst & Richard Vandenburg.

They'd be my choices... Any other suggestions?

I don't know if we'll pick up anyone of note, but in a fantasy world I'd love to get hold of Jason Johnson.

Aaron Lord will stay, David Loats will go instead and Robert Campbell (recently promoted from the rookie list) will stay on the senior list. Agree with the others though.

Cheers Hawk,

My suggestions were what I'd like to see happen, but I sadly agree that they'll prbably keep Lord on, as bloody infuriating as he is!

I had high hopes for Loats and I'm loathe to get rid of tall players unless they're complete duds. With O'Farrell's ongoing injury woes and Rehn's dubious form and uncertain future, I'd be holding on to both tall youngsters at this stage.

I thought Obst was going to be a very good player when he first arrived, but he just seemed to stall and would be a certainty to be shafted at this stage.

I'm thinking Lord is a difinite possibility
I don't think Richie Vandenburg would go considering he is one of dermies favs...

I have a horrible, horrible feeling that Brett Johnson may head back to the west at seasons end.

Quite frankly, I don't know if I would blame him if he did. He gets very little game time but when he does he is all class - he has that rare ability to actually find the ball. The selectors seem to have it in for him; God knows why.

The final straw for me (and maybe Brett) was when they dropped him, after being not great against Freo (and who was?) and brought in that rising star Matthew Dent!!

Oh, I have a feeling in my water about Luke McPharlin too, Jaysus!

Yeah, its a bit of a concern, Donuts!

The Hawks should move heaven and earth to ensure that both youngsters remain in the club colours next season.

McPharlin could be anything (injuries permitting) and there's little doubt that Hawthorn has sorely missed him and the extra options he permits (in both defence and attack). A fit McPharlin is capable of holding down fullback against lesser sides, freeing up Hay to wreak some havoc at CHF.

I'm a big fan of Johnson and it frustrates me that the coaching panel appears to treat him with blase contempt. Ridiculously, they chose to run with Clarke ahead of earlier in the season and its crazy that they would run with Vandenburg (as brave as he is) ahead of him now???!!!

Unfathomable!

Brett Johnson and Tim Hazell both re-signed for 2 years last week. I've also heard that Nathan Thompson has re-signed, but i'm not sure of the length of the contract.

Vanders is gone, we all love his attack on the footy and his heart but he's been around the club since 1998 without improving. Don't write Obba off just yet, he might surprise in the coming weeks. ;)
