Was amazed at the power and emotion in Casey's voice singing that single straight after winning... and the way she had to be reminded of the words. Hearing her sing that song gave me goosebumps, and I wasn't too keen on that song last week when they sang it.

to be honest, it doesn't matter who WON, because most of the people on this show will made an album, and sometimes they will bring out better hits than the winner of the show.

Plus Casey will lose weight now, look at the Idol's that have won, or made an album/had singles out that had a bit of weight on them. They'll lose it. Whether she'll be around this time next year or next week.. congrats to her.

Anthony was consistent throughout the comp aside from the odd boy band effort but was nearly always a bit manufactured and reserved, I just think Casey kept on improving and reeled him in in the last couple of weeks, when she starting singing with raw emotion to connect with the audience. While I didn't care enough between the two to actually vote, I'm kinda glad Casey won - especially after all the efforts Anthony's family were going to, posting on the phones 24-7, campaigning around Melbourne with their billboards and everything. But they couldn't buy it and the Australian public surprised most by handing it to Casey.

The Bookies' odds were off the mark too - i think Casey was 4-1 going into it, there was a couple of $10,000 bets on Anthony that were left wanting.

And if Anthony had've won I bet there'd be a heck of a lot more posts on here bagging the competition, the Australian public, adolescent girls, Channel 10, etc, etc.

I wanted to compliment Anthony on the class he showed after the announcement last night - he could have easily gone to water, but instead kept smiling, gave Casey a hug and some encouraging words I'm sure (much like Shannon last season).

Personally, I wanted Anthony to win - but I will not post negative comments about Casey because nothings going to change the result, and besides, I don't have anything negative to say!

With a bit of luck, Anthony will pick up a recording deal with Sony BMG in the not too distant future.

Congratulations to both finalists. It's been an enjoyable season of Idol, possibly without the drama of last season but we've still had a lot of ups and downs to keep us interested. ;)

In reality there wasn't any competition because people knew that Guy deserved to win. Gave 150% each week, had the voice of an angel, and chose songs that were amazing and gave truely fantastic original interpretations of the songs. Yes if you raise the issue of Paulini, I agree she should have been top 2, however she did sing "Survivor" hirendously, whereas Guy didn't stuff up on any song. Now, surely you just posted what you posted to stir me up and the other limited Guy fans on bigfooty, but, please don't. We all know Shannon should be very grateful for the amount of people that voted for him, because he didn't deserve it in every performace that he did. I have to agree with that. Although I don't mind Casey, Anthony was clearly the better singer over the entire series - bar a couple of performances. Casey often forgot words, or sounded pitchy.

This is just yet another case of the Australian public going for an underdog - Anothony deserved it more and should have one.

So all the R&B/Hip Hop/Rap singers are "healthy" when all they do is smoke/rap/sell/do drugs and/or drink.

Casey isn't the first "fat" person to come out with an album people. Don't be so naive. Giving your daughter a Christina/Britney CD is ok? images of "********s"? People are gonna idolise people for what ever reason they want to. Fat/Skinny/Sexy/Cool/Good Voice. etc... give the girl a go and see where she'll end up, if she loses the weight or if she flops or even if she stays "fat" and makes a lot of good songs i'm sure many wont care what she looks like.

There is a difference from being overweight and being obese, sadly Casey falls into the latter. For a 16 year old girl she is very big, and it is a unhealthy image, I am not knocking her singing or her voice as I am not in a position to judge that, (although I do do a mean version of American pie :D )

Back to the thread...Werribee's own was too manufactured. People maybe saw something "real" in the big girl. Alternative/metal fans won't be jumping hurdles to buy her song, even though she'd count herself as one of them.

As for the previous two, they had a ready made fan base...Guy had(has) the Bible belt, who are no doubt sustaining his career, and the other egghead had (has) Australia's substantial Bogan population urging him on. These current two don't appear to have any particular demographic nailed, leaving them both with a canoe, no paddle and a really smelly creek to navigate.

Obviously as kids get older they will form their own opinions and you have to trust that they make the right decions.

Parents will not be able to say what their kids can and cannot like but when they are younger they can influence them.

Its not so much of a case of accepting her, I am not really unaccepting her at the moment. I just think she should do it for her own sake, not anyone else.

I have total respect for people like yourself and other people who have lost weight. I am lucky in the sense that I have not been in the position and plan not to be. You are right, anyone can lose the weight if they want to, but it is also easier to take the easy way out and not do the hard yards.

Yup i completely understand that, because as now i look back on the person i used to be, i think the worst. How unhealthy i was and how others saw me as a big "fat blob". I'm sure she will in years to come.

But i do agree with you, she is a role model, but everyone is. Even the milk man. Just cant control what is in the media/entertainment world. Not everyone is perfect. And hopefully people realise the good from the bad. Just have to guide your young children on the right path, rather letting them get sucked into the entertainment world.

They didn't have a go at her about her weight but they did have a go at her for not being able to string a single sentence together. The fact that they didn't say anything about her weight does not mean they approved. They may have simply being trying to avoid a repeat of the Paulini episode last year.

The audience was well aware that the comment was made to Courtney as he is not a 16 year old girl, but knew that that the sentiment applied to all contestants - ie you are a marketing product and for best results need to conform to the markets requirements.

Australian Idol is a popularity contest, and is not based on talent what so-ever. If it was, Ricki-Lee would have been at the Opera house on sunday night, not Casey.
