Just interested in gauging the reactions of Port fans after Aaron Shattock's comments at the press conference.

They included such comments as 'I didn't really want to come home to South Australia at all', 'All my family have left here so that didn't really drag me back' (along those lines) & 'There was no way I wanted to leave Brisbane it's just that Port made an offer.'

I'm not actually posting this to be a smart arse I just think if I was a Port supporter I would be genuinely disappointed in a player that was recruited saying that. I also think that even if he did think this he should've at least kept it to himself. Doesn't win him any fans.

Comments? Maybe I'm going overboard but I thought it was completely uncalled for from a bloke that by no means has guaranteed a spot in your side.

Given that both of his clubs are touchy about homesickness causing players to leave, I guess emphasizing his motivation for changing clubs is understandable.

He's here to play football, not to fulfill some Des Headland `retire at home' dream.

Just seemed a bit uninterested i guess was < than impressed with his attitude simply as a South Aussie, would hate to know what I would think about it if i was a Port fan.

The attitude of 'The lifestyle in Brisbane suits me better' just wasn't really called for I thought - had it been any other job where you were, lets say 'Poached' from another workplace, if you came in with an attitude like that you wouldn't last long.

But then, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure Montgomery didn't want to go to you guys originally and he settled down nicely.

Ottens was born in the NT, but I do not think he considers himself a Territorian.
Shattock was born in SA but is a Territorian.
Quite simple really. Nothing wrong with that.
Good pick up IMO. Actually make that great.
Here's hoping he has a proper pre-season and shows Brisbane what they are missing out on.

I actually read it differently to you Rave Slave.

The way I've taken it is that the lad wanted to stay with Brisbane, but then Port Adelaide made an offer, and the opportunity to join Port was just too good a chance to pass on. He confirmed that by saying he has no family ties here, it was just the allure of playing for Port that drew him away from Brisbane.

I don't know, maybe you're right & I'm wrong, I don't believe so, I think I have read it correctly.

Shattock's quotes from the Port website. Sounds pretty positive to me. It's hard to tell with the snippets you get from electronic media...

"I was pretty positive (about the trade)," he said. "I probably instigated it a fair bit so I was pretty happy getting here, and I'm just looking forward to a fresh start, and hopefully I can get a bit more out of myself as a footballer.

"I wasn't going to look for a club where it was going to be easy to get a game, so to speak. I wanted a fresh start and when Port was pretty keen to get me here I thought it would be a good opportunity to maybe win another premiership.

"I'd never really had any plans to come back to Adelaide because my family's moved away (to Darwin), and I really love the lifestyle up in Queensland.

"I'd never really wanted to come back to Adelaide. It was just a matter of Port being interested and how could I knock that back, really?

Saw some footage of Shattock last night. Looks a player. Good size (tall and strong), loose limbed smooth mover, courageous (saw a few examples backing into marks), quick, good run and kick, looks for the give to the player running by.

Looks to have put on some beef on in the weights room judging by his photo in today's tiser.

(Another 45 paragraphs and I can be the new Wisbey! :D )

I was happy when we picked him up and continue to be happier by the day. He's a good size who will be given the opportunity here I think.

Hard tackler too. Doesn't mind the slam tackle.

I am sure that I have read numerous times over the years (possibly in the local rag up here) that he has never done a pre-season.

Yes, I think the pre-season and the pre-season comp. will show us how much he is going to give the club. We all know that he can play the game. If he really fires, what a bonus it will be. He might not be as big a smokey as Mahoney but if he does what he is capable of, then he will be very very handy.
