View Full Version : Australia A in VB series?

If the Windies pull out...."The only available full international teams would be India or Kenya, although Australia A could also be considered."
That would be pretty cool, Australia vs Australia A in the finals.

i'd prefer Australia A to play in the first place much more closer and would atract more people...
the Aussie A team was the best series ever held, bring them back to the VB series.

It wopuld be ok, although I doubt that Cricket Australia would really want it.

Try and bring India back and if that can't be arranged then Australia A would be the next most desirable option.

I think they'd want a break, but who wouldn't want a free trip to Australia?

The teams from last time around, 94/95:
Australia
MJ Slater, MA Taylor, DC Boon, MG Bevan, SG Law, IA Healy, SK Warne, CJ McDermott, ME Waugh, DW Fleming, GD McGrath.
Australia A
Damien Martyn (c), Phil Emery (vc), Matthew Hayden, Darren Lehmann, Justin Langer, Ricky Ponting, Merv Hughes, Paul Reiffel, Gavin Robertson, Greg Rowell, Jo Angel, Tom Moody
A few handy players in the "A" side. 5 of the current top 6 infact! Clarke would have been busy carving up in the u-14s.

Im all for Australia A. They may be more competitive than Pakistan and India.

I seem to remember that Steve Waugh didn't like it. Didn't like being barracked against in his own country.
However, everyone else loved it.
Make it a 4-way series. NZ, Kenya, Aus A and Australia.
That'd be excellent.

Why Kenya? That would just be a waste of time. I cant see it becoming a 4 side series, there would be too much rejigging to do in such a short amount of time.
Will not happen. Period.
Last time this experiment took place the Australia team was booed in the crowd by people supporting Australia A. Blokes like Tubby Taylor were not impressed in the slightest.
Cricket Australia won't let that happen again. They would rather play an understrength WI side and lose a few bucks than an Australia A side.
As can be witnessed by their pitiful effort at a website, Cricket Australia does not have the interests of the Australian fan at heart.

The Kiwis aren't in it anyway aren't they? I thought it was the Pakis?

Only because they've never been here and the novelty is irresistable.
Seriously though, if we could rustle up India to replace the Windies and have a NZ - India - Aus series that'd be a ripper. Three good one-day sides there.
Or, if not the Black Caps, then a Pakistan - India - Australia tri-series would also be good - and a ratings bonanza on the sub-continent.

Aus A would be cool. Wouldn't be surpised if they beat Australia. Australian cricket is certainly good enough and has enough deapth for it to happen.
however i doubt it will. As ive said didnt the ACB have a bit of a cry when people came to the games supporting the A side over Australia?
