Came elidgeble to play for England earlier this September and was immediatly chosen for the tour of Zimbabwe. Has scored 90 runs without being dismissed over 2 innings not a bad effort but then again it is Zimbabwe. Nether the less he is still young in cricket terms only 24. Has been piling on the runs for Northampshier for some time now averaging about 55.
He can also bowl a bit too.

Australian? South African?

South African

Is he apart of the squad to play SA? I assuming since he's a part of the team to play Zimb he is yes? Be interesting to see the reaction from the locals him if he gets a game over there. They will be savage. Ask Clyde Rathbone.

given we don't really get to see the English County players, i've never seen him. But we do have a handful of guys who in our club who have played county cricket against him over the last past few years and everyone has said he is an absolute gun.

Aisde from that, he's been getting ********loads of wraps on CricInfo and in the English newspapers.

Can't wait to see him bat.

anyone in england who scores more than 10 runs gets a wrap from their newspapers. Dont get me wrong, the guy can bat and warney rates him, just dno how good he'll do against mcgrath n co

They haven't even picked him for the one day series in SA let alone the Test series.

Dunno why, he's a better bet than Butcher & Key.

He's copped a load of crap over here in county cricket, just read a big article about him today, his 'teammates' at Notts made him sing the national anthem twice to see if he knew the words & his captain Jason Gallian (ex aussie u19 player & captain?) broke his bat & threw his cricket gear out of the pavillion window for some reason.
He tried to leave the club but they forced him to see out the last year of his contract, despite obviously being in an uncomfortable situation he still had a good season.

He's a certainly got enough self belief, he's a big hard hitting aggressive batsmen.

The academy side went out to India last winter & played in the Indian domestic 1st class comp, not many of the players covered themsleves in glory, Simon Jones was one , he had a couple of good games & they flew him out to the West Indies to join the Test side, the only other on was Pietersen. In conditions that were clearly different to what he'd come accross in both England & SA (let's be honest he's probably not played too much good spin in his life) he played bloody well, scoring 3 hundreds I think & being the standout player of the tour.

I reckon he'll make it.

Hopefully him & Bell what put big pressure on those ahead of them in the middle order, he's definitely a more exciting prospect than Bell, might haver to curb his aggression to some degree.

Seems like Warne plans to take him under his wing at hampshire which can only do him good(on the pitch at least :D ).

Doesn't seem like he'll get to play Test cricket before the Ashes, same with Bell, so if they're needed they'll be coming in cold which is a shame as I can't see Butcher & Key surviving a whole Ashes series (doubftul whether they'll even be sure of their places after the SA tour).

Still at long last there is a hint of competition for places within the England team, which is the first step really.
Seems like Rod Marsh's academy is starting to bear a little fruit.

Yeah well he did say that he was looking to work on his bowling & he also said that he's 'not stupid enough to think I'm going to bowl Australia out at the moment' :D

He's a gun. I think he can field well, a better catch than most of the Saffies bar Prince and de Villiers and he would walk into their starting line-up. He is incredibly exciting, he hits the ball really hard and though he favors the legside has a wide array of shots. England gains and South Africa's stupid quota system loses. If someone like the fat prick can captain them at 22 I would confidently predict he could have been captain pretty early in his career had he remained a Protea. But living in England would be preferable to living in South Africa if you compare lifestyles and he would make more money there so you can understand one of the other reasons why he made the move to become a pom. He also has a great personality. He will finish his career as a true great.

Agreed, Pietersen certainly isn't captain material. Just because you're a good player doesn't mean you can captain, look at Ponting for example.

amazing what one dropped catch can do for someones confidence, even extra hours on the training track cant prepare you for the pressure of a game situation.

Not smart enough, yet the fp is. Pietersen himself said that the fp lacks intelligence, I can dig it up from the net if you like F/P just to prove it.

I dont care what KP says, he is too in love with himself to see anything.

Smith has always wanted to be capt of the RSA cricket team, from day 1 when he played Junior cricket he put up a note on the firdge saying "To do list: Capt South Africa".

KP probably would have had "Cant make the RSA, leave"

Just wanting to be captain of South Africa doesn't make you intelligent. Just greedy and arrogant and I read that where he put it on the fridge aged 11, what an arrogant prick thinking he was going to be captain. You have to be good enough to get in the team first. But I bet he didn't even get his vce equivalent whereas I think Pietersen did.

Of course Smith did, he went to as good a school as Pietersen.

Smith was also choosen for the U/19s captaincy role, yet KP didnt make it? oh what? the Black quota? oh right, one has to think why they left out KP and noot Smith? maybe because Smith is a million times better?

No because Smith is pushy and they were too scared not to give it to him. He looks like a dictator and he is and that's why Stuart Clark will put him in his box. I read somewhere where Pietersen was going to be an engineer. And Smith's parents are a teacher and an engineer so they wouldn't be happy about him not going to uni. Pietersen said if he hadn't played cricket he would have got into uni. Face it, he's smarter than your lovechild.

Smith has the role of captaincy to attend, KP has nothing and left his country like a disgraced cricketer who sooked off.

Robin Petersen, the left arm spinner from South Africa

No, he hasn't done much lately ;)

Funny how a bloke who is actually playing for his country has a surname spent the English way, while another bloke who is a South Africa who tries his hardest to pass himself off as a Pom (unsuccessfully) spells his surname in the Africkaan way
