View Full Version : Is Melbourne the Club you hate most?
I was speaking to someone on the weekend and I said how I didn't mind Hawthorn. They then said well they absoloutly hate Melbourne, because of the merger. So you Hawks fans, is Melbourne the Club you hate most? Perhaps it is all to do with whether you were for the merger or not. I was so perhaps that is why I don't hate you lot!

Melbourne aren't my most hated side, that award goes to Essendon.
I suppose it could have something to do with the attempted takeover, my hatred for Melbourne has intensified since then.
The only two teams i like are Hawthorn and Box Hill Hawks. ;)

Nope - I don't hate Melbourne - we can always beat them when it matters :D
I save my hate for teams like Essendon

No, Essendon, Carlton and Collingwood are all pretty much equal in terms of the most hate - I hate them all for different reasons, so impossible to say which one.
The others I just dislike, but the merger had no real affect on my hate for Melbourne - I like bringing it up because it shows we've moved on from it, and indeed thrived, whilst Melbourne are still bickering just as they were 5 years ago.

It just made me think what the 'Melbourne Hawks' would have been like ?
I'm pretty sure the polkiticians on the melbourne board would now be trying their darndest to get rid of the ex Hawthorn directors, just as they have now got rid of Gutnick.
There would have been a hell of a power struggle with the camps split on demons/hawks lines. Meanwhile the Melbourne Hawks would have been the laughing stock of the competition.
What a pity.
All the same good luck to melbourne supporters. they deserve better

Look I was as anti merger as anyone but I don't blame Melbourne they had a good deal if it happened. If I was a Melbourne supporter I might (although it is always easier to see ' reason" with someone elses club.
I wish Melbourne well. Essendon & Carlton (with an ex Perth dwellers personal thrown in for the Eagles) are the ones I hate. Sydney can be thrown in as well.

What I'm saying is the melbourne directors are not prepared to 'change' just a little. There's no way they would have embraced hawthorn. But the AFL would have brought the recievers long ago, so instead of half a club we would have nothing...
Thanks Don.
Essendon, Carlton, Richmond for mine. Melbourne are like Collingwood, I find them humourous.

Melbourne? Hardly!
Surprisingly enough I'm more fond of Melbourne now than I was prior to the merger attempt, although I couldn't tell you why that is.
As with other Hawk fans I would certainly place Essendon and Carlton at the top of my loathe list; partly because of their obnoxious and haughty attitudes and partly because of the intense rivalries we enjoyed with them during the 80s.
