West Coast have 4 spots available and Freo have 3. How many spots do other clubs have available?

How do Sydney have 4? They delisted Hunt, McGlone, Rodgers and Taylor (all on rookie list in 2004) and promoted Paul Bevan. Nick Potter was retained on the rookie list.

However, Sydney and Brisbane are also allowed to carry 3 extra rookies than the other clubs - so I think the Swans may have up to 8 selections.

In reality they'll use the 3 priority picks (which for some strange reason are listed at the end of the rookie draft) and 2-3 of their 'normal' picks and pass, because 8 rookies is probably too many.

As usual, afl.com.au has been completely friggin useless when it comes to letting us know the picks, but this is my take on it. The final 3 rounds are the priority picks. If anyone thinks their club has more/less selections let us know.

According to the Adelaide Advertiser, Port will probably only take 1 more rookie to bring their total to 2

Matthew Nicks is a veteran.

You are correct. So they have 4 selections plus the 3 "priority" selections. But as I said before they'll use those 3 priority picks and probably only take 1 rookie in the draft proper.

Correct on Port and fixed.

So Sydney and Brisbane have the priority selections and the other selections?

So Sydney and Brisbane have the priority selections and the other selections?

That's how I understand it, but until I see the final list (probably tomorrow during the draft!) I can't say for certain.

For example, in 2002 Sydney had 8 rookie selections.
3 were used on locals and 1 on an International rookie. Of the 4 "proper" selections 1 was used and the other 3 passed on. So although both can be used, in reality it never happens because carrying 8-9 rookies is pointless.

The bit I don't understand is why the AFL don't name the zone selections before the draft rather than after it - just complicates things.

If it doesn't look like a concession that limits other clubs, its less likely to be removed.

How many picks can the hawks use GOALden?? Whose already on the rookie list?According to afl.com.au Hawthorn have an empty rookie list so they can have 4 picks. It also says there's 66 picks so that order is probably correct now although a lot will be passed
