For those interested, Dale May will play for the Coburg Tigers next year.
He is a Calder onballer who was probably a bit stiff in not getting a rookie listing somewhere.

yeah i was a bit surprised not to see him get rookied,i didnt think he'd get drafted though. it prob didnt help though that he wasnt training at an afl club, instead opting to train with coburg before the PSD and rookie draft.

After the National Draft and the Rookie draft there aren't a lot of Cannons left for Coburg. Not well known ones anyway. I'll be interested to hear where Ronnie Davis and Jackson Barling have headed though. Davis in particular was an absolute waste after showing so many good signs in 2003 as a bottom ager he should have done better this year.
Dale May will be good for Coburg.

Obvious choice for Cannons players to go to Coburg. Most do.
While he had redeeming qualities, Dale wasn't good enough. Simple as that. I'd expect he would play most of the season in Coburg seconds.

I think May is jsut the sort of player that needs to prove himself worthy of an AFL spot in the VFL.
Didn't expect him to get drafted, but considering the obsession AFL clubs have with Calder midfielders, i thought someone would rookie him.
I hope Barling plays at Coburg, aswell.

Spot on, i would be very suprised in Dale played any games in the seniors next season. We see it year after year good juniors will go to a VFL club only to be wasted away in the seconds.
Why dont we just call the VFL the AFL reserve comp??? the whole system really is a joke and it will force talented footballers who are Victorian to go interstate, is that what Footy Vic want??.
cheers

Dale seemed to be a good outside player in the best side in the comp by far.
Whether he is tall enough, strong enough, good enough to play at a higher level remains to be seen. Sometimes players respond to the challenge and Dale may be one of those. There is a much better chance of being noticed by AFL recruiters in the VFL firsts or seconds than there is at East Fremantle or Central Districts.
Good luck to him and all the players who just missed out on the draft.

I can't really understand what point you're trying to make here Tige?
If he isn't capable of making the Coburg 1sts then he was never going to make it in the AFL anyway. If he wants to play AFL I tihnk he'd be foolish to shoot off to the SANFL or WAFL now.
One of the few things Richmond has going for them is that Calder seem to be the best breeding ground in the TAC.We're getting t an extra good look at cannon players that don't make it.
I actually think May wasn't a bad player the times I saw Calder btw.
