1984 Prelim,The "Maggot army" deserting at half time.
Many trips to maggot park, had an ok record there as well.
Win at waverley in `90 when bomber thompson jumped on browns boot, one hundred bucks off a maggot at work.
1990 g.f,stayed to the end, good to see how both clubs (us and the maggots) have progressed since this fateful day.
16~14 maggots.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Great post John.
Ah, the '84 prelim. I was nine, I think, but I remeber listening to it on the radio. 28.6.174 to 5.11.41 Ha ha ha ha. What a great afternoon.
I also have fond memories of 1989 at Waverley. It was Michael Long's first season, and he got the ball in the middle of the ground, with no one between him and the goals. He ran a hundred metres, taking about 6 bounces, before kicking the goal from the goal square. Collingwood players gave up the chase knowing they couldn't catch him We won by about 70 points in front of 71,000.
Nothing beats the 1995 Anzac day match though. An unbeleivable day! It's a pity than, even though we have won the last 6 against them, we havn't been able to be convincing in any of them. The last real thrashing we gave them was Sheedy's 300th in 1993 under lights. We finally broke the duck against them, and thrashed the scum that night!!!!
Good one Windy,
Aaahh yes...1984 Preliminary. Final,
What a day, still laugh when i think of that day. Couple of Maggots sittin' in front of us before the match, discussing their Grand Final ticketing arrangements for the Hawkers the following week. First half...Baker, Harvey, Vanda, Daisy.....running riot....maaagnificent....Half time....Maggots are dead. The spectacle of these two moronic Magpies in front of us (among hundreds others) leaving VFL Park at half time is very amusing and the running gag for the Bomber sections of the crowd in the second half. " Hey Maggots...hope ya bus breaks down on the way home!"....or...." How good's this?....we're 23 goals up and Rotten Ronnie's kicked half of the Maggot's score!"..hahaha!....well...it was funny at the time....guess yer had to be there :p
Couple others:
Round 4 1985, Windy Hill:
Bombers hold off the fast finishing Maggots for a narrow 4 point win. Not so much what happened during the match, as afterwards. Teenage Wally has his nose broken in an all in blue with some disgruntled Magpies, who believed that "We wuz robbed!"
1990 Grand Final,
Expected to get creamed before the match...well the minute the Second Semi final ended really. But, we stayed to the bitter end, got horribly drunk and graciously accepted the Maggot taunts at match's end. Only when we realised the guy's car which contained our post match "refreshments" were gone did things get a little heated. "Where's bloody Robbo!!??...where's the bloody beer!!??"...."Robbo?...Oh..he cracked it and left half thru the last" "B*stard took our beer!!"
Let's get 'em tomorrow!!....Carn the Bombers!
where's wally?
