View Full Version : Is this the best off season the club has had in the past 2 decades??

In the 23 years i have supported this club, i cannot remember a time where the future has ever looked so bright. This would have to be one of the greatest off seasons i can remember.

Not only have we acquired arguably one of the leagues best coaches, we have turned over 1/3 of our list, got 5 picks in the top 20 kids in the country and finally have a board that has some stability. I know the club has a huge deficit, however that can (and i am optimistic it will) be turned around with all that has happened in the past 4 months.

I know we might not be up there in the next couple of seasons, but i feel that in 3-4 years we can be a force to be reckoned with.

When was the last time anyone else can remember the club feeling this positive going into a new season????

And this is EXACTLY why the majority of members voted for clinton casey's ticket. Stability right now is important. All the seeds have been sown. Let's watch these gun youngsters grow!!!

How has the board finally got stability?
We're still in debt like we were before the election. Until Casey has made some profit will the board level have stability.

He had danny frawley wrecking our playing group. Would you expect to make a profit?

Nobody beats Richmond in the off season. Pity reality sets in when we actually have to play footy or run the club within a budget. But yeah we are just GREAT in November and December. What are you guys smokin'?

pfft...

You dont think this pre-season has been ALOT better than any other?

- turning over 30%+ of our list...
- 5 / top 20 picks, around 15-20 kids 21 and under at the club
- new, proven coach, game plan

Its a new era my freind.

Bentleigh as always I am hopeful that this year will be the one we turn the corner, and I am excited by the prospect of change but:

We haven't seen the kids in action.
We haven't seen wallace's game plan.
In fact we aint seen nothing yet.

We're playing a couple of players short on the senior list and 3 rookies down because we're broke and in case it slipped your mind we have lost 31 out of our last 36. Having said that I think we will win the wizard cup and our first seven games...........................gee i'm nearly as tragic as you blokes! ;)

All we are talking about here is the off-season SOTR, not next season. We never said we were expecting a miraculous turnaround next season and for us to win the flag. The point i'm trying to make is, finally we have some stability in all departments of the football club, a feat that has yet to be achieved since i have been alive.

Surely this brings a little optimism to the members of this club.....

I always like the pre-season where we traded away a broken down Jeff Hogg for Paul Broderick, Michael Gale and Matthew Dundas. But this one is up there, probably better, because we also picked up Jamie Elliott in the draft that year.

What the? Who gives a flying shyte if we are all warm and fuzzy each december if we continue to be crap from March onwards. Really its time to deliver - massive improvement expected and needed if we are to stop being dependant on the AFL!!!! Baldrick needs to forget about his PR machine and do his job, because if he doesn't I'll be the first calling for his head on a platter.

stop whining robert.. it is getting tiresome.

Get on board or get off board and keep your mouth shut.. Your choice.

Because no one wants to read your negativity.

i agree, but i know where he is coming from. how sick are we of pumping ourselves up in the off season only to endure another season of pain? i along with the rest of you are seriously hoping this time its for real.

All we have to know is how can you make money when you lose all we have 2 do is look at the Western Bulldogs.

A huge influx of kids to any club always brings renewed enthusiasm[sp] to not only the supporters but more importantly the playing group[you only had to rock up last week to the family training night to see what i mean].Added to the the new cubs is a coach who with a fresh and proven approach to the game is exactly what was needed.
im not going to go overboard and say we are going to play finals next year but i do expect us to be far more competative and play as a team!

cheers!
