Well technically M.Carr was never not in, just injured.

Midfield depth - it's what we craved and now we have it.

On paper you would have to think that J.Carr and Black are certainties, with Schofield, Macca, Cookie the ones needing to keep their form and be consistent to keep their spot.

Other than that I wouldn't have a clue - but what a nice position to find ourselves in. Glad I'm not the coach.

It would be ironic if, by recruiting J. Carr, Black and Schofield, M. Carr couldn't force his way back into the side. Ah well, at least they can train together ;)

Cook will play half a dozen games at best barring injuries, mcmanus will be on a wing and on the bench because of h black , headland will play hbf but that is questionable to me . and m carr loves to kick goals and play 20metres off his man hff sounds good. schofield is only good for team depth

Schofield Macca and Cook will be competing for 1 or 2 spots you'd think. Brownie will struggle to get games now, as will Smith. Webster and Dodd will probably have to compete aswell.

He's our best tagger, so when we want a midfielder shutdown you can bet M. Carr won't be playing 20 m of his man.

Schofield is not in the major mix, he will be playing for Subi Doobie.

Webster is to be added to the mix, along with Matty Carr. I rate Matty highly if he can return to his "pre Ling" form. Webby has toughness and ruthlessness cruising through his genes.

I feel Cookie may struggle for a senior place, with Macca being a bit part off the bench player. Players like Grover and Woods may struggle to find a possie.

Interesting to see the mix, do they bring in a tall to the forward pocket?, do they keep small pockets?, does one small get evicted up to the half forward line?, does a half forward get evicted for a midfielder? etc. These type of things could have a bearing on the midfield setup.

Memories ......... remember Mr Buckley and Benny Kizon getting locked in the garage and not being allowed out to play when number 9 was around.

Matty does love kicking goals, but loose is one word I would not call him.

My favourite is seeing Judd having a brain snap and throwing punches at Matty due to some close tagging. :D

Sounds like the Longmuirs...

But as a 191cm close-checking midfielder who loves to kick goals and is a VC of the club (of the deputy variety), I think there'll be a place for Matt when he is fit.

I would have thought Grover, A.Brown, D.Woods and Smith

I also would have thought that either Medhurst or Farmer (if out of form) out for Schofield.

I think Dodd will become our No 1 tagger in 05 and Carr will be allowed to roam a bit and create havoc!

Due to the new recruits, I think McManus, Browne and Cook will all be spending a bit more time in the WAFL.

Fair enough that is your opinion but i ask one thing of you, next year if you go to the game keep a closer eye on m carr, if he plays in the middle or "TAGS" someone and then we will bring this subject up again .

Probably McManus and Cook from the midfield rotation. McManus, Cook and Schofield competing for 1 or 2 spots.

Webster would make my side every day of the week.

Dodd also looks impressive.

It looks a bit dodgy ;) Haddrill? Thornton? Walker is probably still in our 22 also.

My side:

B: Hayden Haddrill Parker
HB: Thornton McPharlin Webster
C: Headland Hasleby Black
HF: Bell Pavlich M.Carr
F: Medhurst Polak Farmer

R: J. Longmuir J. Carr Schammer

I: Sandilands Walker Murphy Dodd/Cook/Schofield

*Personally I would flip McPharlin and Polak but the coach says that is how they will line up so that's how I've got it.

It's funny how you are now relying on the Power's old midfield

What's funny is that you have an old midfield.

excuse the intrusion. I think that Josh Carr will squeeze his brother out of the starting line up, kinda ironic really, and that Schoey will struggle to even get a game when CC realises how woeful his disposal is.......

I see Schofield as being at Freo to add depth to the midfield - he won't be a definite starter.

The players named above were drafted not poached.

For what it's worth, I don't think that Schofield will fit into your best 22. Before I get accused of trolling or dumping on an ex-Port player simply because he is an ex-Port player, I should say that I have appreciated his efforts for us in the past. However, his past season and a bit was just not up to AFL standard. I think that you guys will find that too. You'll be better off fostering young talent there rather than a player on the wane.

That said, Josh is a great addition and will add great bite to your midfield. If you could just get a forward line for the midfield to deliver to, I might start getting worried about our prospects in round 1. ;)

Knowing hw some of you are quite sensitive to the presence of Port supporters on this board, I hope that my contribution here is not too unwelcome.

Mindless trolling and hanging around saying nothing much at all is annoying... "real" discussion and comments such as yours (with a well-timed and good-natured barb thrown in for good measure ;) ) is more than welcome.

Kenny 01 - agree that Haddrill & Thornton are probably still in our 22 but Walker is as weak as water. Just watch the last Derby when the Eagles killed us. Eagles put real pressure on the man and made it difficult for us to control the ball. Walker stands off the man with his hands in the air, allowing the player to get easy control of the ball and handpass it to a guy running past and away the Eagles went.

Everyone thinks he is good, because he gets the ball in the halfback area and runs - All the soft stuff. For Freos sake here is hoping that Carr, Schofield, Dunn, Mundy, Smith, Webster, Dodd, Gilmour play good footy and keep him out.

Not a bad team but Thornton is a littlte suspect to me , the best game he played was against adelaide and he got two million touches when he played spare man in defence... play as KPP on bigger guys and gets towelled up.would not be my first option and would take a seat behind other players still is a decent player and is good for team depth..Just my opinion Headland does not have a fulltime position in the middle anymore will get pushed out and will supposedly play HBF , walker will get get a game week in week out ,does he deserve it? so far yes, does he deserve irt this season? everyone will be working harder for their spot this year if its done right!

He does look like a midget next to Sandi, but haselby's arms usually look a bit like mine, However over the preseason he seems to have toned up.
