If you watched the sports report on 9 at 6.00 tonight you might have heard the reporter building up the Langer and Akhtar sledging/gamesmanship into something that it just wasnt.

The on-field incidents were clearly something in the mould of "fun and games" but the news blow it up and frowning right upon it as if they're going to get suspended/fined or something else.

The incident when the players were walking back on to the field and Shoaib kinda waited for Langer and poked him in the ribs (two guys having fun) I forget the words the reporter used to describe it but he was clearly frowning upon it.

And then when Langer was dismissed Akhtar went and gave him a pat on the back and it was described as something like a "bad send off" (clearly not.)

Anyway my point is that why cant they see that some sportspeople from opposing sides can be friends too?

I saw it and thought it was great that two guys can have some fun while still trying their hardest to beat each other.

Always thinking negatively of any incident that happens.

australia are entering a conservative era under a conservative government in a country full of scared and conservative people

if a black man does anything to a white man we must react with fear and negativity

this is an example of just that

not really

its a reflection on channel 9 playing to the most number of viewers possible by taking a conservative and fear-mongering approach

Good post.

I thought there was nothing but good sportsmenship in Akhtar patting JL on the back after his dismissal.

It's the media's job to give us news. Unfortunately, Langer and Akhtar being good mates and having a friendly spar on-field doesn't translate to a good story. But if you get in into the editing room and give it a bit of a tweak, and then graft a "tut-tut-tut" voiceover onto it - then hey presto, you've got yourself an Aussie-Pakistan "incident". Sell a few papers, snaffle a few more viewers, erode the image of the game a little further.

Just ignore it. Put it into the same basket as Hayden's "it's me or him" comment prior to the series; and McGrath's "Akhtar's run up is too long and he's just showing off" malarkey prior to this match.

Sometimes I don't think anyone in the media understand that we just like to watch cricket. We don't have to believe Pakistan are evil in order to enjoy a contest.

erode the image of the game a little further.
