SEN discussing playing a 20/20 tomorrow for the Sri Lankan relief- Aussie players have turned it down, apparently. Sounds like a great idea- would be good to get a couple of guys, but the test schedule is tough. Surely we could get some of them and mix in other Melbourne celebs. Not like it will be competitive in any way- charity match. Come on, guys- let's get behind it..... Vics players to come in maybe.....

If they did that so they wouldnt have to refund 5th day tickets i would be totally against the idea. On the other hand it could be a chairmans type XI taking on another up and coming XI - that'd be good

Aussie players turned it down eh?, If that is correct then they need a pin to prick their egos, they were expected to play a 5 day Test, CA could ask them to fulfill contractual obligations couldn't they?.

Assuming the bit about Aust turning it down is true, seems a bit rough considering that 6 members of the Test team played in a match several days prior to the Boxing Day Test vs the Essendon football club who share the same sponsors.

Would have been a great chance to do a fundraiser for the tsunami appeal

Some players need to take a good hard look at themselves.

But surely a hastily convened Australia vs Australia A 20/20 match would sell more tickets...

apparently they're donating the prizemoney ($17000-ish) towards the fund.

I think it's fair enough on the Australian players part. The third Test starts on Sunday and they've earned their three days rest.

But why not play the match anyway, with retired cricketers and celebrities instead like they've done in the past? In addition to any of the current players who want to play.

bit hard to arrange a celebrity match at the last second and expect people to turn up, especially at this time of year. ground staff have to be paid as well and to organise, advertise etc in like half a day, it would be extremely difficult to draw a large enough crowd to raise money for the cause. besides this, the fact the two teams have to play another test in a few days would be diffuclt for them. i think the match payments donation was a nice enough gesture. if they want to try and raise funds for the cause then they can arrange a charity game for after the next test.

These players are professional cricketers, their job is to play cricket and get paid, nothing else. The test was suppose to run for 5 days, in the end it lasted 3 and a half so you can't say the poor darlings are tired as they all expected to only have a couple of days between games so there is no reason to play an extra day.

These cricketers are slowly thinking they are more important than anyone else are getting like politicians where they are paid very high wages for only "working" a maximum of 3-4 months a year. I think its time CA made them earn their wage and work a normal year like everyone else in Australia (apart from politicians who wouldn't work underwater if their life depended on it).
