1 For Mcleod In The Tackling Department Is Very Harsh , I Think His Ability To Bring A Player To T5he Ground Is Excellent
roos the best, maccas good at getting the bal and taking others on

TACKLES
Agree Welsh would rate a 9 as did Johncock
Dont agree with Shirley (3) should be at least a 6 and Mcleod a (1) does seem harsh- I will agree he does have lazy days in the chasing department though.
Anyone rating a (1) shouldnt get a game ! ;)

is this a joke??
there’s probably 10 players you got on there that didnt even play enough footy to fairly rate
IMO the only player who get a 10 for everything is Roo, apart from that macca did ok, his tackling was good especially late in season, hes alot more accountable than some of the players. Reilly would get a nine for kicking, although he doesnt go long enough.
can think of anyone else that was up to 'scratch' really
the worst player for disposal overall had to be jericho, i hope hes done a whole preseason of skill and gym work as he looks to have enough to be a good player. Practically the rest of the team needs the skills improved, which is being done, but other bad cases are bode, bassett, massie, perrie, theres alot of them.
and burton is unfairly criticised, definitely not alone
1 out of 10 for McLeod's tackles is a joke. He had the second highest tackle count of any Crows player last year with 67. Only Tyson Stenglein had more with 75 and that is to be expected of a tagger. That result is no flash in the pan either:
2003 - 4th
2002 - 2nd
2001 - 2nd
2000 - 2nd
1999 - 2nd

Ok so I have been a bit harsh on some players but I suppose I could justify Mcleod saying that his potential out weighs his actual performance, ( and Ok I've been proven wrong with those stats but as I said it was IMO)
some of the players didnt get enought time for me to rate as well as I would have liked but it is my first attempt and if you think you can do better have a crack, just remember not to give your favorite player all 10's or 9's

I think McLeod's tackling and the defensive side of his game is greatly under-rated across the board.

Very interesting stats there Fergus, which would have sat quite a few of us on our backsides, as I for one would never have guessed that. 6 years of stats tell a very good story in that respect.
On that basis he would be entitled to a 9 out of 10 for tackling.
The one thing they don't tell us is of those times in the last 1 and a half years when he never chased at all, which would detract somewhat from those figures.
7 out of 10 then, all things considered.

As with all champions i think we all come to expect a 9 out 10 performance from Andrew & maybe that's why when he doesn't live up to our high expectations of him that's when we at times feel slightly let down by him.

Bit rough on Birdman as he has a lower clanger rate than most & is a good kick for goal.
I reckon Goodwin's kicking is about the same level as Burton's, but IMO deserves a higher tackling rating.
Massie is a solid mark & good tackle, so those ratings look low to me.
What's wrong with Mattner's marking ability? He is also a good kick ... just his decision making can be lacking.
I actually reckon Kenny is a reliable kick.
Macca & Shirley's tackling isn't that bad.

I agree with this Noddy - his demenour on the field sometimes gives the impression he would rather be elsewhere.
I wonder how significant Fergus's stats are. I have no doubt they are correct - but maybe they are just where they should be for a good midfielder.
I would be staggered if midfielders didn't fill 4 of the top 5 tackling spots in most teams. I'm not trying to detract from Macca's performance - just wondering how significant it is in the context of where you would expect a midfielder to be.

There's no doubt that there are times when Macca hasn't chased as hard as he should, particularly in the last couple of seasons. However, with his rugby background, when Macca makes a tackle they are usually very effective.
It doesn't tell the whole story but here's a tackle count comparison of Macca, Roo and Ben Cousins.
2004 - Macca 67, Roo 44, Cousins 38
2003 - Macca 65, Roo 69, Cousins 42
2002 - Macca 74, Roo 67, Cousins 57
2001 - Macca 63, Roo 48, Cousins 34
2000 - Macca 49, Roo 43, Cousins 34 (interesting to note our tackle count jumped when Ayres took over)
1999 - Macca 35, Roo 13, Cousins 25
Macca is (should be?) an attacking midfielder, so to rack up the above tackle counts is a pretty good effort IMO.

very interesting Fergus....!
It doesn't matter which way you stack it up he certainly gets thru a lot of work and fairs very well in comparison to Roo and Cuz.
Most of the stats and recent B+F finishes etc say that Andy Mac is more than doing his job....so why do most of us who are reasonable judges and go to the games have this impression that he could be doing more ??

I think that has a lot to do with what we think his role is - ie. dominating a game from the midfield and running opponents off their legs - versus what the club are expecting from him by giving him specific roles.
I still agree that he could do more even if he is performing a specific role, but as you say the club obviously feel that he is doing his bit.
