View Full Version : What sort of reception can Shaun Rehn expect?

I'm just curious to know how you think the Adelaide crowd will respond to seeing Shaun Rehn out there in different colours? Will it be a friendly reception? Will he be booed? Couldn't care less?

He may not even play, he can't seem to get fit at the moment. He's been a handy pick up but he hasn't played anywhere near what we all know he's capable of.

Cheers. ;)

Frankly, I can't see the Adelaide crowd booing Rehn, just like Mods wasn't booed when he came back with Freo. We were all disappointed that he left with (seemingly) no real explanation, but he was too well loved around Adelaide for people to really turn on him.

I strongly urge all Crows fans not to boo Shaun Rehn

In my view he was the main reason we won two premierships.

He always gave 100% and felt he needed to leave for his own reasons

I think he woul have struggled to get a game ahead of Clarke this year anyway.

Hopefully he will play and we can welcome him home.

I agree with you 100% Jars. Rehn was one of the major factors you reached the grand final and won it.

I disagree with you Garth tho. Rehns departure was a lot different to Modras departure.
Modra was basically forced out of the club by Blight, so the supporters still loved him anyway.

Rehn however left on his own accord and the supporters felt a bit....cheated. If you remember back to when he said he was leaving the Crows the supporters were pretty scathing of him "we kept him thru three knee reconstructions and now he has burnt us". Also his reasons for leaving werent exactly all that good....that doesnt sound right, but his departure seemed a bit 'shonky'

He should not be booed...but some fans are a bit too idiotic to realise that.

I won't boo Rehn, but I won't be clapping him or welcoming him either. I'll just ignore him and treat him like every other player on the Hawks side. He's not worth the trouble.

Make no mistake; he will be boo'd
Love him or hate him there is definately people who respect his move to the Hawks but also a zhitload of people who will still see his move as treason

I wont Boo him; unless he does something untoward:D

I just hope he hears a call from Bicks or Roo for a palm down; and delivers the goods:rolleyes:

Hey Macca, I can't quite see what you are disagreeing with, I never said the circumstsances were the same in their depatures. I was merely saying that they were both heroes of the club, who left and now come back with another club, but that they wont be booed because they are/were to well loved/respected by crows fans.

There will be as there are lots of kids like QT on the Crows website who will boo him through ignorance.

If people do so, they are pathetic, and I condemn them.

Will Piciaone be booed as well? I doubt it.

Shaun Rehn may have been an excellent player while he was here, but he was always an absolute c*nt, when it came to supporters.

We saw him many times after matches, etc, leaving Footy Park, and he was the rudest, most arrogant Crows player I have ever seen.

His shining moment was when he refused to sign an autograph for a 4 year old boy, because he was 'in a hurry'. There were about 3 other people around, not some huge crowd, and making a little boy's day by signing his autograph book would hardly have been an effort. Needless to say, the kid was pretty upset afterwards.

Yeah i used to hear that about him too. Thats why i was so surprised to see him doing clinics and signing autographs after training down at Hawthorn. I suppose Adelaide may have been a little more intense seeing as it's a 2 team town. I spoke to him at training about a month ago and he said he loves Melbourne because he can go down the street and not get stopped for autographs and so on. I don't doubt what you're saying for a second but since he's been at Hawthorn he has been absolutely fantastic, we just wish he could get on the field a bit more! ;)

Cheers

I'm not an immature youngster, but I'm tempted to boo him! Didn't like him much when he was with Adelaide, but I acknowledge his skill and his contribution to the two Grand Final wins.

I wasn't happy when the Club presented him with Life membership at last year's members' meeting, and feel they could have waited until his career was over before awarding it to him.

He spat the dummy big time and left, and I have spoken to a lot of Crow fans who have said "good riddance", and I think we have had the last laugh this season.

This is a horrible thing to say. I hope you are joking. The man played his guts out for the Crows and none of us know the real reasons for his quitting the Crows and the background to the potential legal action. Watch the 97 and 98 GF's again to remember how important he was. Shame.

Would he sue the Club if he still was a Crow Player???

And why should I cheer him, he is part of the opposition now

Thanks for proving my point young man.

People have very short memories.

The AFC area an employer and have a duty to provide a safe working environment

They obviously did not do this as the bounce pad contributed to the injury

It will be settled out of court becasue after the incident the AFL removed all the bouncepads which is a strong factor in showing that the damage could hve been prevented and was contributed to by the offending pad.

Hawks have not won at Footy Park since 1994 when Dunstall Platten etc etc were kicking a rse

D Jarman was on your side that day too.

1- Possibly. Legal action was first mentioned when he was still with AFC, however no mention that it would be against AFC. I may be wrong but he would be required to sue his employer in terms of Occupational Health & Safety legislation. This is probably purely the legal path he has to take and not an action directed against the Crows, but his employer at the time. If you were injured in a work accident you would want compensation as well.

2- I do not suggest you should cheer him for one minute, but don't boo him. If he gives the crowd the finger or belts a Crow player during the game then you are justified to boo him.

That's not true at all

Lately you have annoyed me with your comments that's all.

I think that you should show Shaun Rehn a bit more respect and not abuse him because of his injuries which have been one of the modern games great tradgedies

He could have been the best ruckman ever to play the game without them and would probably still be with the Crows.

The Club at both an official level and at the player level all still respect and admire Shaun Rehn. That shoud be enough for the rest of us I would have thought.

If you say stuff I don't like I will disagree witht it. If I agree, I will say so. I would expect the same from you.

Cheers.

Ok Jars the thing that really pisses me off is that...How many clubs would stick by there ruckman after 3 knee reconsructions. We could of axed him after even the 2nd time he done it. But we were loyal to him, we stuck by him. 2 years later he dumps us, and leaves because he wanted a "change".
Ok fair enough,

But then 9 months later he says he will take legal action against us!
The AFC kept his footy career alive IMO, and then he does this!, pfft......

I can gaurentee you hardly anyone would of booed him if he didnt do this legal action crap, I know I wouldnt of

QT, I wouldn't worry too much about the sueing thing...it's not personal....actually. if you were in a car accident you could sue your mum if she was driving...it's the insurance company which pays out.

As for Mr Rehn. I managed to control myself and not boo, he he, but I was totally disgusted that people in the members area actually clapped him! For goodness sake. If the Hawks had won would they have run up and kissed him???? Geez.
