I run a competition called the Super League which simulates AFL players redrafted into other sides, and a point system with the Champion Data system, and win loss with other competitors in the league.

Players I have from your side in my Super League are as follows;

Leo Barry, Craig Bolton, Nic Fosdike

If the points system is based on possessions, these may not be great "finds" for you.

Bolton and Barry are true defenders - ie they do their job by defending foremost, with rebound as their second aim. They can therefore be very effective players for Sydney without necessarily getting a stack of possessions. Barry's tally, in particular, will depend on the health and fitness of Schauble, because if Schaubs is out of the side for any stretch (with his dodgy hamstrings) Barry will be called upon to play more defensively than if he is stationed as a HBF.

Fosdike is an interesting one. He is no star but a solid player, and one I think is unfairly maligned by many Swans fans. However, the recruitment of Spriggs, ongoing development of McVeigh, Ablett and Buchanan and the excellent (by all reports) pre-season training efforts from Moore and Willoughby means that he is going to need to work hard to keep a spot in the team.

I noticed you mentioned Willoughby in your post, I was just wondering how Tim Schmidt is going. Both of these lads looked fantastic in their U18 years and I am keen to follow their progress.

I haven't been along to watch any pre-season training sessions this year so my earlier comments were based purely on what has been reported through the "official channels".

Schmidt probably struggled a bit early last year in the reserves and then had a hamstring problem in the middle part of the year. He came back pretty strongly towards the end of the year and played some good games. His cleverness with the ball was probably the stand-out feature of his game.

Last year he did look like he would need to work hard to drop some weight before he came into contention for senior selection. I know he didn't play much the previous year, which might have contributed towards his body shape, but he looked exceedingly bottom-heavy for an AFL player. He now has a bit of competition in that department from Ed Clarke though!!
