Who do you think would be the AFC most valuable player would be?
I would have to say N. Smart, D. Jarman, A. Mcloed, S. Rehn,M. Ricciuto and B. Hart.
These players in my mind have been great players over four or more years who have had above average years consistantly and have been so valuable to the AFC over the past years.
Do you have any other players that you think should be Adelaide's MVP.

And it would be very hard to disagree with that list.
Personally I'll go with the 7 time All-Australian and Brownlow medallist.

Shaun Rehn, without him you would not have your two premierships.

True, but without Jars & a few others, we would probably have not won the flags either.

sorry Mark your right !!
But lets be honest there is really no competition to Roo in the entire History of the crows If he doesnt get something named after him by the crows there is something wrong with this club !! I just hope he gets to lead the club to it's third Flag (hopefully he does !!)

Yes because we are rating the player on past performances. Even if Macca had won it in 01 I believe Roo is the AFCs' overall chamion so far.

Roo, Smart , Rehn and Bicks would be my 4 prime choices, but a honourable mention to Modra, the season he had in '97 was so valuable to us making the finals; but was such a shame that as a player he never got to enjoy the ultimate team victory.

Your right, it will be travesty if Roo doesn't get to hold up a premiership Cup as captain. A travesty for which I will hold Ayres, and to a lesser extent Reid, personally responsible for.

I find it very interesting that the crow supporters hold the Roo in such high esteme.
I agree that he is a very good footballer who generally is very consistant at accumulating statistics.
As an opposition supporter when we are coming up to play the crows I do not fear that the roo will have a good game as the crows performance does not fluctuate according to his form. This could be seen as a compliment in that he is serviceable at worst when the crows lose but I no longer think he hurts the oposition as much as he should. It is players like Mcloed, Edwards, Goodwin and Johncock who I fear because if they play well the crows win.
As crow supporters you may see a side to his game that I dont. For example in the last two years I have rated Josh Carr as our most important player which very few outside of alberton would even consider to be correct.

Humph!!
I'll see your Downsborough/Chalmers/Bone and raise you a David Gallagher/Lucas Herbert/Sudjai Cook plus a Romano Negri for good measure!! :p
* Looks around smugly knowing that he has Capitalist and Springchoke by the balls on this one - unless Springchoke plays the ace of Smith on its own*

gotta agree with the majority here on Roo - consistent and class. Has performed over many a year after starting as a 17 year old, but I think it's his leadership that really has pulled him ahead of macca. Yes macca is able to turn on the absolute brilliance but even if he wins a brownlow in the next couple of years there has been some lean years for him, which I don't think we can really say about Roo (although his lack of sometimes chasing his man makes me yell at him, but nobody is perfect)

Wrong game Macca. I am holding a nearly unbeatable "in betweens" hand. I have a Smith and a Roo and unless you can turn over a Dabrowski the Pots all mine.

Rehnny has been gone since 2000. Since that time Roo has been AA 3 times (incluidng Captain), won a Brownlow and been runner up last year, won the B&F twice and been a great Captain for our club.
Your above comment regarding Rehns importance may have been correct in the late 90's but there is no doubt that the last few years Roo has consolidated his grip on our 'MVP of all time'

My call on the other board was decrying that mentality, not reinforcing it. At the end of the day Rehn was outstanding, but in 95, 96 and 99 he wasn't the one and only key to our fortunes. For some reason as soon as he went down in all three of those years, so did we, not only playingwise, but mentally as well.
Furthermore, Roo has had a longer career and achieved far more than Rehn on an individual level (captaining the club for one) - on a team basis you'd be splitting hairs if you compared Rehn's 2 Premiership Medallions to Roo's 1 - as the latter did plenty of hard yards in getting us there in 1997 before his groin finally gave out, and was in fact leading the Brownlow Medal count right up until Round 18.
