Honestly, and sadly, I think he's got till the end of 2006.

Well the latest story on the Dons website is he is fitter than ever. I reckon he will go on efor a while - it just depends when he is ready. He has the ability to play for a fair while - cause lets face - hird as half the player is still 10 times better than most yokels running around.

Put in him in the forward pocket next to Lloyd. We need players to step up so he doesnt have to go into the backline or midfield. If he does go this year though (and i'll probably join him if he does) lets hope he lets us know when he is walking of the MCG with the cup. The guy is a freak, best ive ever seen and ive been whatching the bombers since 1980.

Still reckon this year is his last.

Sometimes it is good to go out on top... now that he is thinking about it ..... it wouldn't surprise me if this was his last hurrah

How can you say that?

If you had said that pre 2000 I would have agreed with you.
However in the last few season's he has been relatively injury free. The injuries he has sustained have been freak injuries, not a case of his body giving way.

There was the knee to the head from Mark McVeigh against Fremantle, the blood clot in his leg causing a calf injury and the poke in the eye against Adelaide.

Wishful thinking. Look at who he supports.

Buddy, this is the Essendon board get it? youve got 40 players on a list, you can say what you want about 39, but 1 player youre not worthy to talk about is our captain! You worry about your drunks and druggies youve got at the eagles ok.

2 top seasons left ... cold go a 3rd if he looks after himself and doesn't cop another of those 'freak' injuries. One more would almost tip him over the edge!

No injuries and he will still have a few years left. Currnetly he looks as fit as ever but he does posses the unlucky knack of getting injured.

when Misiti and mercuri retired hird came out and said he wished that they had of been able to stay until the end of 2005 so that they could have all went out together , i think the 3 all started their careers at the same time
so i'm guessing James will finish up at the end of this coming season . which is a pity because i love watching him play and without doubt he is the best bomber player i have seen in my lifetime

Wow you are so lucky your star player fitter than ever during the pre-season I bet every club would like that. Next you will be telling me all your 2-3 year players have really bulked up and that the new recruits will be pushing for selection round 1. Gee I wish I was in your position.

It depends on injuries, it's personal opinion, but from the sound of it, the Man himself might be starting to get really, really sick of those freak injuries he's constantly having. If he has some luck this season, he probably will play on for another year. But if he gets another freak injury and out for a month or something, he might well hang it up and say that's it.

Hmmmmm so predictable. Your not very bright are you Pevers. "Carlscum" wow I am so impressed you came up with that have you got any more like it, it was really good. Unfotunately if you actually believed I was attempting to offend you rather than point out that your comment about the website talking up a star players fitness was hopeful at best as a truth, you are again well below any intelligence level I would normally associate with and thus I am a little ********ed at myself for replying to you. Oh well they do say that the fight is always at level of the lesser opponent.

BTW I think you will find most carlton supporters are a little excited about this season but alas we are not idiots who truly beleive that our team is a top 4 proposition when in really the bottom half of the 8 and a first week finals exit is most likely event.

Wow one post and you can sum up my intelligence. Geez you must be a bright spark. I wish I could be more like you.

Why do you run along and pss off to your own board where you can wallow in the fact your club outsources its membership. Yes thats right - the wonderful Carlton get an external company to do your membership. Gee you must be proud of that. I wish I could support a club with no soul.

And if you think it is not nice to hear that our injury prone captain is as fit as he has ever been, then you really are a tool of huge proportions. Of course it is not ground breaking news, but it is more pleasing than hearing he has stuffed his calf up or something like that. So run along

It was very easy to sum up your intelligence with one post. The use of the word "Carlscum" is pretty good giveaway that someone is not a mental giant, couple that with use of the rolleys emoticon and well you really didnt have much chance, the fact that biggest exponent of the rolleyes icon on this board is Suzi, had you swimming with some pretty small fish at the end of the intelligence pool.

I'm glad we resolved this. since you're obviously so insecure by your self infactuation with attacking other peoples intelligence, why don;t you go seek help on the Calrton board. I'm, sure the average IQ will be much more to your liking where you can feel more superior.

Ohh look  a rolleyes icon - geez I really must be stupid.

one or possibly two years at the most.he must be getting truly fed up with discovering new and interesting ways to hurt himself.how on earth does a side cover the loss of one of the games greatest ever players and a Very good backman in fletcher (he cant have long left either) as they will disappear at around the same time.who do you have that can be groomed for these roles?
i hate your mob because we dont win.luckily we have some muscle coming through now.

In terms of team balance and roles played, Hird's not particularly difficult to cover - he's essentially just a utility, albeit one of the best ever.

In contrast, Fletcher's going to be impossible to replace. Hopes are being pinned on Kepler Bradley, but I don't think he's a fullback.

Essendon supporters because its about one of Essendons greatest ever players.

Now if this was posted on the General AFL board, then your comment would be fine. But unlike other clubs Bombers supporters seem to realise what board should be used for what.
