View Full Version : Career Defining Moments
Can anyone think of any moments that defined/saved a players career?
One that comes to mind was ben johnson in the qualifying final 02. THE tackle. He was under plenty of pressure at the time, and there was alot of talk of a delisting. Perhaps that single tackle saved his career?
can anyone think of any others?? or would anyone like to comment on that great tackle?

He played in the 2003 gf dip******** , I mean if you're going to bother atleast get it right.
(He barracks for Richmond incase anyone was wondering)
Lol wheres Red from "That 70's Show" when you need him
dumbass
i was referring to Starkraven in my rather vague post above
as for the thread topic....2001 round 22 i remember scotland and Tuckey were both getting a game and playing for their future...scotland won but he left so that example is pretty crap...thats the only one i could recall
Leon Davis in'03 prelim perhaps, called up from nowhere, kicked 3 goals (i think?) and snagged a game in the grannie....dont know if that was really career defining though

hmmm don't remember that one.
Clearly you have a small penis.
Anyway Johnno's final V Port is certainly a stand-out for mine.

Yeah i remember that Rowdy tackle, he is definately one of our greatest players, he was so hungry for the ball and so fearless, something we miss. I was right behind that Johnno tackle in Adelaide, I remember me and my mate were giving him absolute hell for being that crap, then that tackle shut us up alright! Surely saved his career.

lol there'd be nothing better for a player than to completely shut his critics up with one single action.

Port Adelaide players running away from Mark McGough to man up players around him, so he'd have to kick the ball rather than be able to handpass to a close-by teammate.

For me, although being biased,I don,t know if you could say it was career defining but it made people take notice and especially without Bucks playing. It was Paul Licuria in the qualifying final against port over there when josh francou did not pay the guy the respect he deserved and he played an absolute ripper with, correct me if I,m wrong but I,m sure it was 40 possesions.Absolute champion and still gives us 110% week in week out :D

It's 3:30 am at the moment, so I can't really be bothered writing a lot, but one that springs to mind is Brodie Holland. He'd been out of the team since mid 2002 after a great start to the year (including those 8 goals against West Coast), and was struggling to be consistent as a forward pocket. He'd played 2 games in 2003, round 1 against Richmond where he picked up 1 handball and another against Sydney (9 possessions), but turned the corner against Adelaide in round 7 (the game featuring the after the siren Chris Tarrant goal).
After speaking to Mick Malthouse about becoming a tagger in the 2003 pre-season he played down back, picking up 18 possessions, thwarting many attacks and providing plenty of rebound. I can't recall him being out of the team since. Well, besides a couple of extremely uncharactertistic incidents involving Paul Williams...and Camporeale.... Anyways, maybe I'm the only one that saw it this way, but I thought it was the match that turned his career and started the transformation from flashy forward pocket to reliable goal kicking midfielder (as well as being the little ******** every team has to have).

Wasley's shots at goals against Geelong.
Ben Kinnears 3 vote game in the ruck vs. Western Bulldogs ;).
Gavin Brown was Ben Johnsons hero when he was a young magpie supporter so getting his number is a great story.

i like hearing about players being big collingwood supporters when they're younger. It just makes you think they'll be that extra bit passionate

That's a good thing about getting Morrison and Caracella. It's also why not getting Nick Stevens sucked. He really wanted to play for us.

Wasley's shots at goals against Geelong.
I think I was playing footy that day but heard about it on the radio. Was that in 2000 when it was hailing and we were up by about 5 goals at half time and dropped it?
