View Full Version : CA say no County Cricket for Lee

Cricket Australia has apparently told BF Whipping Boy Bret Lee not to sign a contract to play English county cricket. Apparently, Lee is getting testy about being 12th man and was entertaining offers from 4 or 5 counties. May speak well for his participation on the New zealand tour and the Ashes, although how they would be able to tell him he wuld play, I've no idea...

If true, that's insane. I don't like him, but if it were up to me I'd send him to England so he can get a few overs under his belt and get used to the conditions, then, if you need to call him up into the squad he'd be cherry-ripe. Doesn't seem to make much sense.

County batsmen up and down the country are crying into their beer tonight... ;)

Perception is everything with this bloke, CA obviously think the sun shines out of his backside. Four years of absolute mediocrity can seemingly be cancelled by a decent ODI performance, or a couple of "sharp" net sessions.

He'd fit in well in county cricket with all the other cannon fodder and pie chuckers.

IMO Matthew Nicholson should be in the tour squand ahead of both Lee and Tait. He is quite sharp, gets sharp bounce, and good movement off the seam. He has been the pick of PC pace bowlers this season I think (32 wickets at 18).

I don't like him, but I'll be neutral here: If they are intending to use him in the Ashes, wouldn't it be logical to let him play for a county so he can get used to the conditions there first? I don't get it

Also, he hasn't had a 4 day game under his belt in months, so the logical thing would also be to let him play some county cricket.

Or (This is not a neutral opinion) they're afraid that he'll get smacked over there in the substandard leagues and prove to the world what many have known in years: He isn't worthy of even first class cricket

Nicholson please.... they should deffinatelly take either Damien Wright or Mick Lewis both great bowlers.

*nods in agreement* It does not make sense!

Strange decision.

Lee is frustrating. He has all the talent in the world and we've seen him show it for about 12 months, but deadset must have rocks for brains. Injuries haven't hurt him, but that's part of bowling that quick.

He's biggest problem is Cricket Australia themselves. They need to start punishing him. Drop him from touring squads, and 12-man teams. Send him back to Sheffield Shield cricket and give him a kick up the ass. Even send him back to grade cricket.

The ironic thing is he is the highest earner (not from CA, but from endorsements) in the Australian team.

Which county in their right mind would want him? Hasn't he got a **** record in England? He got smashed by the USA while playing there for ****'s sake.

His best prep would be to work as a waiter for a few months, either that or cut the oranges for kids footie teams for half time.

A county looking to bring in some cash would be crazy NOT to want him on their books- especially one that has no hope of success- a big draw card for the punters and press coverage. So what if he doesn't win matches? As long as he brings extra punters in and possible television coverage....
Also, he COULD go over and play half a year in ***** cricket before the tour actually started- don't we arrive in mid-June for the tour? He could get two months of play in....and counties DO sign guys who will tour later....

Cricket Australia do need to change thier policy but even Lee himself says he would rather be 12th man than 13th man

He get paid more than the Australian captain thanks to his sponsorship. The sad thing is he is probably the 4th best fast bowler in the world (and even Bichel could be argued to be in better form).

That statement just shows what an absolute moron you are

Why don't anyone appreciate what Kasper's done since his return? He's been superb.

Yet people kept saying bring Brett Lee back into the side, when he's had no 4 day performances or fitness to back up that claim, and want possibly the 3nd best fast bowler in the world to be dropped for him?

Only if Kaspa is injured.

What he said.

The Poms would be more scared of our current 4 pronged attack (and one that is thrashing everyone at present) than Lee.
