If we are allowed to clone we have a reasonable top 6.

If stretching the rules a 'bit', allowing ring ins and Taswegian born players, their side could look something like this:
David Boon
Jamie Cox
Ricky Ponting
Michael Di Venuto
Michael Bevan
Shane Watson
Roger Woolley (WK)
Funky Miller
Max Walker
Michael Holding
patrick Paterson
As if anyone would care about an all-time Victorian XI
Surely the amount of press that Hodge and Elliott get on this board would have them in the best XI of all time?!?!
Wheres Jon Moss?
Isn't he a filthy New South Welshman? ;)
Berry?? or even Gilly, hes from Vic isnt he??

Stuff Lawry. The top of the order has to be that great opening partnership of Ponsford and Woodfull.

Pretty good side but Woodfull has gotta be there.
I thought he was a Victorian but wasn't sure when you didn't have him in there. I'd have him, Lawry and Ponsford all in there with one of them batting at number 3 (all are about equal IMO so it doesn't really matter).
Linsday Hassett and Dean Jones in the middle order with Keith Miller.
I'd also go with Fleming before Hughes but i think both would squeeze in alongside Warney. Not sure about the keeper but Jack Blackham is considered one of the finest.
Number 7 spot would either be Redpath or Armstrong.

That's a tad harsh, some people would be it's very much like picking a world xi except this applies to the various states that make up this great country of ours.

What about Paul Reiffel?
thats what i was thinking
There was a series of threads a while back where several posters did "all time XI" sides for just about all states... if anyone can be arsed looking it up (I can't).

Surely DK Lillee would make it as a Tassie ring-in ahead of Paterson!
WA
Marsh, G
Langer
Hughes
Martyn
Gilchrist (as a batsman :D )
?????
Marsh, R
Yardley ?
Lillee
McKensie
Alderman
Fall one batsman short. Simpson as a ring-in? Edwards? Drop Wood down the order? Pick Moody on his FC form? Claim Katich back and pick him on potential?
Yardley is the other ??? pick. Tony Lock as a ring-in? Claim MacGill back from the East (but you can't take Gilly back!)? Put Bruce Reid in and play 4 quicks?

We really are a state of imports and exports and very much hampered by the fact we were not a full shield side until the 1980’s. I don’t know much about the history of grade cricket in Tasmania so here is a rough side with some stalwarts of the shield/test side and a few contemporaries. All born in Tassie except Miller (has to be in there for the fact he played here for nearly a decade and I think holds the Tas first class record for wickets) and TK Kendall who was born in England and also spent time in Victoria. Claiming Joe Darling would be going a little bit too far ;)
CL “Jack” Badcock
Tests: 7 matches, 160 runs @ 14.54, 1 100s.
First Class: 97 matches, 7371 runs @ 51.54, 26 100s, 21 50s.
Child prodigy who played 5 seasons for the state, debuting at the age of 15. Moved to SA to continue his career.
J Cox
First Class: 259 matches, 18373 runs @ 43.12, 51 100s, 79 50s.
The last few years he has been winding down his career but he will be remembered as one of the unluckiest players to never play for Australia.
DC Boon
Tests: 107 matches, 7422 runs @ 43.65, 21 100s, 32 50s.
First Class: 350 matches, 23413 runs @ 44, 68 100s, 114 50s.
RT Ponting
Tests: 85 matches, 6651 runs @ 55.47, 21 100s, 26 50s.
First Class: 177 matches, 14790 runs @ 58.22, 53 100s, 59 50s.
CJ Eady
First Class: 43 matches, 1490 runs @ 22.92, 136 wickets @ 23.13
Played 2 unspectacular tests for Australia in the 19th Century for 20 runs and 7 wickets @ 16. Stalwart of Tasmanian grade cricket best known for scoring 566 in less than 8 hours in a grade match.
EJK Burn
First Class: 48 matches, 1750 runs @ 21.60
Also played 2 test matches for Australia in the 19th century under bizarre circumstances. Jaymin’s ancestors and Eddiesmith’s ancestors fought over which state should provide the secondary keeper so Burn was selected as a compromise. Burn didn’t tell anyone that he had never kept in his life until the ship was on its way to England :D
In grade cricket, hit 41 centuries, headed the TCA averages on 11 occasions, reached three figures six innings in a row, set Australian club records for scoring 1200 runs @ 133 in a calendar year and getting a century/unbeaten double century in the same grade match.
RD Woolley
Tests: 2 matches, 21 runs @ 10.50.
First Class: 85 matches, 4781 runs @ 40.17, 7 100s, 30 50s, 145 Catches, 16 stumpings.
One that always pops up on the luckiest ever players to play for Australia threads. Can’t argue with his first class batting statistics.
S Young
Tests: 1 match, 4 runs @ 4.
First Class: 138 matches, 7212 runs @ 37.95, 14 100s, 44 50s, 274 @ 35.82.
Right place, right time for the test match. Unpopular selection but very solid first class stats with bat and ball.
MHN Walker
Tests: 34 matches, 138 wickets @ 27.47, BB 8-143.
First Class: 135 matches, 499 wickets @ 26.47.
CR Miller
Tests: 18 matches, 69 wickets @ 26.15. BB 5-32.
First Class: 126 matches, 446 wickets @ 30.97, BB 7-49.
Great servant of Tasmanian cricket. The journeyman who got the very most out of his ability.
TK Kendall
Tests: 2 matches, 14 wickets @ 15.35, BB 7-55.
First Class: 8 matches, 40 wickets @ 16.65, BB 7-24.
Extremely debatable, I probably shouldn’t have included him.

seriously I think the NSW side would have to be the best bowling side by a long shot, also the vics have a swag of great spinners, however my best for the vics would be:
1 Ponsford is a legend of the game batting ave high 40s
2 Lawry champion opening bat against the best attacks of the time batting ave high 40s
3 Neill Harvey legend of the game again batting ave high 40s
4 Deano >>> mark waugh, batting ave high 40s
5 Lindsey Hassett is recongnised as one the greats of the game, batting ave high 40s
6. Keith Miller batting ave about 38 bowling ave about 21
7 paul reiffel batting ave about 27 bowling ave about 26
8 Warne bowling at 25 and batting about 17
9 Damien Fleming batting about 20 bowling about 25
10 jack blackman seems to be one of very few vic wicketkeepers so we'll have to go with him.
11 Ironmonger bowling about 20.
12. Armstrong
so we have a batting line up that can stack runs on way down to no 9
pace attack is miller, fleming, reiffel (so maybe one paceman short?) spin options include warne and ironmonger and armstrong would fight for the second spinners position, if armstrong comes in Warne slips down to 9 on the batting.
seriously you can't go past the NSW with so many batters over 50 like barnes and s.waugh (they could even have some claim to border and Gilchrist with support from bradman
add bowlers like davidson and lindwall with MCgRATH to their numbers and I can't see anyone getting past the NSW side :(

I'd add in the pot Barry Sheppard, Garth McKenzie, Ross Edwards, Tony Lock, Spud Slater.
Garth McKenzie with DK as the opening attack.
