This guy has been both lucky and unlucky if you ask me. he has continually been struck down by injury, but got a Test call up back in 97 or 98 i think it was, after a delayed start to his first class career.

He then got diagnosed with CFS, but over the past couple of seasons he's found his rhythm and came 2nd or 3rd in the NSW player of the year.

anyone reckon matty has a chance to make it back to the test team? we've seen bracken do it, and since he's a new south welshman he has a better chance. We should see him in the test team by 2006 i reckon.

thoughts?

I wish we still had him in WA, he was a great talent (apart from that post-Zimbabwe period when he sprayed it each way but on the pitch) and well suited to the WACA pitch. Bloody WA administration and selectors  . He seems to be bowling well now for NSW, albeit taking a back seat behind Bracken and Clarke.

Tait and Lewis would be ahead of him IMO.

IMO i think Nicholson has had his time unfortunately... Too many blokes in front of him... But think of Kaspa...

He has half a foot on the Ashes plane as we speak, bet the Victorians wont be happy about that. Personally I hope they take Lee and Tait as backups, I dont think Nicholson is the future etc. Just my opinion on how the selectors view him. It wouldnt suprise me if he got called up.

IIRC all 4 NSW bowlers (MacGill, Nicho, Clark and Bracken) all average under 30 in the Pura Cup, an outstanding effort.

yep true.

Nicholson is good enough to play test cricket again, but is probably a little too old to be getting a gig, and has guys who are younger and would already by in front of him in the pecking order - Tait and Rofe.

He could get a gig through injuries in the future though.

All under 20 in fact. (I suspect that's what you meant?)

As for Nicholson, he acquitted himself well last time there was an Australia A first class match. His form this season has been pretty good, so I suspect he's still on the periphery.

And he wont be playing against the Vics this week (thankyou CA).

Good bowler but he is not Aussie material anymore. NSW treat him like ******** though as he is always the first one dropped when the blonde ******** comes back. Much better bowler than Bracken and Lee.

Never thought Id say this, but I agree with you.

The NSW media continue to tout him for a return to the Aussie side  . He has been solid but guys like Tait and Lewis deserve higher honours at the moment. He is a better bowler than Bracken that is for sure.

I'd be disappointed if he got picked ahead of Tait.

he had his chance and didnt do much wrong, hes a great bowler but too many players who would be considered before him. The pecking order would be Lee (unfortunately), Tait, Lewis, and Wright.

he plays second string to bracken and lee but is arguably a better first class bowler than both.
