Preview:

The Queensland Bulls will be aiming for their seventh domestic one-day title when they host the Tasmanian Tigers this Sunday at the Gabba in the final of the ING Cup, with play commencing at 9:00am (AEST).

Queensland finished on top of the ING Cup table after dominating the season collecting seven wins from 10 matches (including seven bonus points) to leave them nine points in front of second-placed Tasmania (24 points, including two bonus points), who will collect their second domestic one-day title should they prove too strong for the home side.

Teams in Sunday’s match will be competing for the $100,000 Waterford Crystal ING Cup trophy, as well as the $75,000 winner’s cheque from ING. The runner up will receive $40,000 from ING (Victoria in third place receives $20,000; and Western Australia is awarded $15,000 for coming fourth).

This year’s ING Cup has been highlighted by several outstanding performances, including two hat-tricks; one from New South Wales paceman Doug Bollinger (4/24 v South Australia in Canberra) and West Australian stalwart Kade Harvey (4/25 v Tasmania in Devonport).

On the batting front, Adam Voges from Western Australia scored the fastest hundred in Australian domestic one-day cricket history off 62 deliveries against NSW at North Sydney Oval, eclipsing Stuart Law’s previous record of 69 balls.

During this innings, Voges also hit the ING Cup sign, earning him an additional $50,000. This was the only time a batsman hit the ING Cup sign this season. Now in its 13th year of sponsorship of the domestic one-day competition, ING has given away more than $900,000 for the “Hit the Sign” competition during this period.

Other awards being presented on the day include the season’s “Fastest 50”, with the recipient receiving a $5,000 ING OneAnswer account (currently shared between two players - Shane Harwood from Victoria and Andrew Symonds from Queensland, who each scored their 50 off 31 balls).

The Player of the Final in Sunday’s match will receive a $1,000 ING OneAnswer investment portfolio, whilst the ING Best New Talent will receive a $2,500 ING OneAnswer account.

Tickets for Sunday’s match are on sale from Ticketmaster7 on 1300 136 122, or by visiting a Ticketmaster7 outlet, or online at www.ticketmaster7.com.au

Admission prices are $16 for adults, $8 for children U-16/full pensioners and $32 for a family pass (two adults and two children).

I will go with the smokey on this - TASMANIA

Queensland aren't full strength - without Hopes, Symonds, Watson or Love. The Tigers have the man, Michael Bevan along with a good team of players. Good seam and swing bowler Brett Geeves and the pace of Griffith while Birt and Di Venuto add depth to the top order.

Whoever bats first will win.

Tigers need Birt, Marsh, Di Venuto to fire.

Go Tassie. Very bare trophy cabinet for the Tigers, time to get one in there.

Need our bowlers to strike early, with Geeves needing to continue his strike bowling ways. Wright to keep it tidy and pitch in for valuable wickets too.

Batting needs to be focused. Need to keep wickets in hand and get some decent scores out of Bevan, Birt, Dighton and Marsh. With some pinch hitting from Bailey to pick the run rate up.

I think it will be a close match....but by far the 2 people to watch are Bichel and Bevan...both could single handedly win the match for their respective teams.

Go Tassie :D
If they win, it'll be the first title for Tassie since the Gillette Cup Final at the TCA Ground on 14th January 1979 where Tassie won over Western Australia in front of a raucous and packed crowd.
Saw the footage the other day - awesome. :)

So Tasmania don't deserve to be there because Victoria are crap? Strange theory, that's like saying Port Adelaide didn't deserve last year's AFL premiership because Richmond were rubbish.

Queensland need a couple of quick wickets. Tasmania's required run rate is still well under 6, and with 7 wickets in hand, they should breeze home.

Michael Bevan is the key. Been a consistent contributor all season, while Daniel Marsh has been pretty inconsistent. They need Bevan quick, otherwise he'll settle himself too much and be almost impossible to dismiss.

Qld need both these quickly to have any chance.

I hope Tassie win. Bevan is batting beautifully, the hoodoo is about to be broken. 65 off 84 with 7 wickets in the shed, looks good for the Tigers.
Very good knock by Maher earlier i might add.

Woohoo, no ball, Bevan hits the free-hit for 6, and it's another no-ball. 48 off 64 with another free-hit to come.

I wonder where all the knobs are, that where saying that Tassie didn't deserve to make this final.. ;)

You've got to love Bevo, so many years, so many runs - now he's practically guided Tassie all year to win the ING cup. Well deserved and it's great for Tasmania to something after so long.

I said it and I am still here :D

It is only cos Bevan is there at Tassie they made it to the finals. He wanted to leave NSW so he can get another chance to prove himself and get picked for the australian 1 day squad, everyone knows that. I'd rather have him that The Fat Man Lehman ;)

Don't worry about Aaron, he has been embarrasing himself in just about every forum. You should read his posts in the football (soccer) forum, utterly ridiculous.

well done tassie, a well-deserved win. Queensland's fade out to the end of the season made it tough for them, but nonetheless a very good win to Tassie after they looked a little flat in the second half of the competition also. Bevo is a legend, what a season he had.

When Tassie had to get 247 to win, I gave them no chance. They have been very ordinary all season at chasing totals. But all the batsmen stood up and did their job.

A great day. :)

A great day indeed.

Brilliant work by the Tigers (unfortunately I was at a cricket club function most of the day so I didn't see the earlier work...just the sweet, sweet end).

By the looks of it the bowlers did their jobs...Geeves got wickets like he has been all season, Wright was tidy and got breakthroughs and Griffith bowled very tidily. Doherty also did a fine job.

As for the batting, again an impressive effort by Birt (I also just found out that his uncle plays at the cricket club I play at)...so a lot of the guys there today were interested in how he did. Daniel Marsh couldn't have scripted it any better. He has been toiling away for so long as a player and captain in a team that has had such little success that when the time came for glory to come, he stood up. Great effort. Bevan did what I expected him to do.

Great team effort, congratulations Tigers, you deserve it.

Well done Tassie and especially Bevo- the whole top order chipped in, but the last partnership pulled it all together and got the job done.

As abulls fan, I am not pleased, but we simply didn't put enough runs on the board. I'm not sure 275 would have been enough the way I see the tassie scorecard.....so again, well done Tigs....
