Sorry guys - not Libba or Zeno :( Keep trying.
Zeno must have been another year. 1988 did seem a bit early, and the laughter wasn't exactly a fit... more of a chuckle (albeit from the whole room).
Any clues as to why there was laughter? Was the player a complete dud, did he poll a vote despite playing an absolute shocker, or was it one of those Tzatzaris-type alphabet names?

More clues needed. The player concerned played limited senior footy with Footscray in 1987-88, and played in the '88 Reserves premiership, starting on the bench!

The naming of Brenton Vilcins among the Brownlow votes provoked the guffaws of his teammates. Well, he wasn't very good as I recall!
