And Shrek 2 missed out on Animated Film  ..........to the Incredibles.
What a joke!Without wanting to start a debate about which film should have won, I enjoyed Shrek 2 much more than The Incredibles. :)
Didn't help di Caprio for What's Eating Gilbert Grape?
Testify
Was best by a mile that year IMO

Maybe.
But it was a linecall decision and given that Martin has deserved to win a hunded times before with Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Casino, the list goes on, I thought it was only fair that they finally rewarded him with a throughly deserved Oscar.

But it wouldn't have been a thoroughly deserved Oscar, as Clint's movie was better.
Like you (i'm assuming), Scorcese is my favourite director. He should have won awards for Goodfellas, Taxi Driver (my two fave movies) and Raging Bull. Just because they robbed him in the past though doesn't mean they should rob Clint Eastwood of a deserved award just to give Scorcese a token one.
Correct decision. Million Dollar Baby is an excellent movie.

When it comes down to it.........the ONLY oscar they will let Marty win will be when he finally gets his life acheivement award , and he'll probably only get that when he dies.

When it comes down to it.........the ONLY oscar they will let Marty win will be when he finally gets his life acheivement award , and he'll probably only get that when he dies.
I reckon this is the way the Academy looks at it -
1976 - A film with a hero that's Vietnam vet nutter New York cab driver cum potential political assassin? With its heroine a child prostitute? And Bogdanovich's squeeze is in it? Yeah right. Hey, there's this flick that's boffo everywhere. About this nobody who gets a shot at the world heavyweight title. Plus it is written by and stars this nobody actor who has made it to the bigtime. Aint America great? Oh, and its got a really great soundtrack.
1977 - A musical about two assholes, Marty? Get off the coke, buddy.
1980 - Yeah, DeNiro's good, can't deny that. But man it's a chore to sit through all that black and white and does it have to be so nasty? Give it to Bobby. Nobody saw it, but at least it shows we appreciate it when people put on 60 lbs for a role. Now that nice Robert Redford has a nice film out about middle-class people and their middle-class problems. About time we gave Redford something and like, you know...it deals with 'issues'. Settled? Cool.
1983 - What's that Marty? You don't like the cult of celebrity? Well you won't have to worry about that from us. Wanna tip? Leave that Jerry Lewis ******** for the French.
1986 - Memo to Marty - Thanks for reminding us Paul Newman is still alive. We owe you one. That "Werewolves of London" bit was great. Helped the trailer no end.
1989 - Hey, we love ********ing off the religious right...but not that much. Man, we've got a nationwide telecast coming up. Austistics. They can beat the casino at blackjack and love "Wheel of Fortune". Covers the dreams and lives of the midwest. Done and dusted.
1991 - Damn, better give it to Marty. Stop all those film nerds whining. But hang on...that nice Kevin Costner...you know he did tick all the right boxes. Liberal guilt, environmentally friendly, noble savages plus he resurected a long dead genre and he's an actor, too. Remember that nice Robert Redford? Hmmm...Marty or Kevin? Decisions, decisions....Let's check the box office for each and got with that.
1994 - A costume drama that's as cold as a witches ******? Nah, we've let Merchant Ivory work that side of the street, can't go encouraging anyone else. Give it an award for costumes or something.
1996 - "Goodfellas Redux"? - We'd look like idiots if we give it to this one.
1998 - Yeah, I know Richard Gere has been pestering us 24/7 to nominate Scorsese this year. But no-one's been to see it. Hey, they can't even pronounce it.
2003 - Finally time we stuck it up Harvey. Plus the only thing focussed about that film was the camera lens.
2005 - Okay, Marty's a lock. It's Hollywood, it's glamour, it's disabilities. Finally we can stop the whining. But wait, that new one from Clint, that boxing chick flick, Medved and Limbaugh have been thrashing about over it being a left wing rant. Well it would have ben too obvious to nominate Michael Moore so what better way to ******** off the right than to award one of their own who has deserted the flock? Marty?...Yeah, I know, but it aint the first time he's lost out to a boxing flick. Anyway, he's sort of used to it now.
