UNSW/East Sydney have had some good results over pre-season with Troy Luff as their new coach. East Coast Eagles look as though they have recruited a number of highly credentialled players including a couple from the WAFL and SANFL. Wests have also recruited strongly and it will be interesting to see how Wollongong go in their first season in the Premier League.

Who did Troy Luff play for previously in the comp. I am pretty sure he won the comp best and fairest after finishing at Sydney

Good to see that in the true style of completely ignoring the old SFA, the NSW/AFL have omitted to mention that you guys wont be fielding a side this year Pekay.
They managed to change the draw on the website, but have not mentioned it anywhere.
It's a shame that you aren't able to round up the players at Norwest, but it's an even bigger shame that they (the NSW/AFL) can't find it within themselves to help with some promotion. If it were an SFL club, they would be up there in a flash with a bucketload of cash

I noticed this as well. Pretty pathetic that they can't even make mention of this on the website, after all, it relates to a Division 1 club that have been around for a long time. I would have thought it would pass for news
Although, when the guy who used to run the show referred to Division 1 as "only park footy", what do you expect?

PK, do those that remain at the Jets bear any resentment to the guys that have left, given what it has done to the club? Is there a chance some of them might be enticed back in the future to get you blokes back in to Division One, or is it a case of waiting for all of the services blokes to come back?

There's a few teams in contention, but I'll tip reigning premiers North Shore to take out the title again. UNSW-ES after signing Luffy, and East Coast Eagles who have recruited very strongly, would be the major threats.
I'll be writing a weekly preview column for the Sydney AFL this year, and also doing the reports on RedAndWhiteOnline again this season.

My guess re the Nor-West Jets issue not appearing on the website is that perhaps the AFL (NSW/ACT) preferred not to publicise the fact - perhaps it could have been viewed as a bit of down publicity, both for the League and also those at the club who had done the hard work trying to keep the club in First Division? Only a guess.
As for the League trying to help the club, my understanding is that the decision for the Nor-West Jets to drop a division was confirmed around the end of February. That makes it a bit late for the League to be jumping in and helping a club I suppose, and it is always a moot point as to how much support the league can offer to individual clubs in any case.
I think you will find that there is no "park football" view of the First Division at the AFL (NSW/ACT) these days. Bear in mind that the Premier League must, by definition, receive priority attention. It is, after all, a State League. The First Division seems to get pretty good administration from the League, which is as much on a par with Premier Division as you would reasonably expect.

The league doesnt do enough to promote senior football in Sydney. They could at least co-ordinate ads in local papers promoting the local sides beginning in Nov for the following season. At least this would raise peoples awareness of the local sides and where they play and when they train etc.
On a lighter note we play Easts this weekend in a 6 qtr trial and are really looking forward to a learning experience :D . Seriously though it should be fun and hopefully the guys will take notice of the way they play. We played wests four weeks ago (their senior side was in canberra) and didnt disgrace ourselves - lost 1st 3 qts and won the last 3.

Does anyone know who the top sides are this year in the SFL, i heard UNSW-Es are going to give it a real shot..If they play like they did yesterday, I can't see anyone beating them.
Round 1 in the Sydney AFL took place over the weekend, with 4 fairly one-sided games. Uni NSW-Easts sounded out an ominous warning they'll be the team to beat with a thumping 106-point win over St George; while the major shock of the round was the defeat of reigning premiers North Shore at the hands of Pennant Hills.
I'm writing a weekly column on the Sydney AFL, so if anyone's interested in that competition check out
