Guy Campbell?
yeah he'd be pretty handy, don't think echuca/united would take the news very well if it were to eventuate. not real sure what sort of money he'd command. ya'd think it'd be a bit though.
Yeah agree dont think teams especially Echuca would take it very easily. Oh well.
Isnt Nathan Gemmill overseas and heard he will be for some time.

yeah Gem is overseas and has no return date in mind, isnt expected to be back for footy at this stage.
Echuca would be very disappointed if they missed out on Guy, especially to Rochy.

Guy Campbell?
You may be 3,000kms away, but your finger is on the pulse as per usual, Daniel.
Another strong rumour going around: young Dylan Cuttriss and Adrian Pappin both joining young gun Anthony Jess out at Mitiamo next year. This one is nearly 100% confirmed. Both will be big losses.
just signed
6 Nov 2005, 12:31
Cuttriss and Pappin leaving is big news. Both had good years last year and Rochy would be hoping that they are going to be the new breed of young guns. Cuttriss is a touch soft though.
Guy Campbell?
Believe he has taken the Ass Coaching role at Echuca United?
[QUOTE=No Heart]Chance M Collins has retired and R Vanreit is going to do a pre season at the bullants [ Stevie d set it up for him and R Douglas] but robbie at the moment is pretty keen on staying put. P Ratray has told the club that he is playing there in 2006 , the same as everyone else.
Yeah I'm know about Collo retiring. Patty, I dont think will stay. Another lion leaving the den is Tommy Robinson. Played for Sey all his life. Does not get on well with Stevie D footy wise. Had stevie gone he would have stayed I think and has not been given a fair go this year. Has signed with Mitcham which is in the EDFL I presume? Not sure how that club and league compare to GVFL so hope Tommy does well. Anyone familiar with this league?
Oh and one of the best news to come out of Kings Park recently is that the terrible hard, dry turf (in other words a cow paddock when dry and wet!!) has finally been ripped up with a new drainage system and lush green grass to be applied soon. Hopefully it is up to par with Tatura's beautiful turf. The best in the league along with Deakin in my opinion. Hopefully this will reduce our injury curse dramatically!!!
Sorry to hear about Tommy leaving, he's a great fella and has been loyal to the Lions thru some rough periods. Are you suggesting it will only be until Stevie D departs, or is he settling down in the eastern suburbs?
Be fair to assume players like Boruch, Shiels, Brockway & Inness would be just as frustrated as Robinson due to Seymour's depth at present, along with young Barton who I hear is seriously considering heading home to Kilmore.

I'd be surprised if Tom doesn't play for the Lions again, but you can understand his reasons for having a crack somewhere else.
Surprisingly, though, I haven't heard of too many others in a similar boat to him that have cracked the ''Brad Pitts'' (not that Tom cracked them, just think he realised that he was probably going to struggle for opportunities under SJD) and said they're going elsewhere coz they're not getting a senior game.

Shepparton News
Euroa is keen to continue negotiations with former Richmond utility Rory Hilton, but remains far from convinced the former Magpie junior will return to his roots in the Goulburn Valley Football League next season.
Speaking candidly yesterday, just days after being returned for another year to the presidential chair, Euroa leader Xavier Thompson remained hopeful, but not expectant, his side would be successful in enticing the recently released Hilton back up the Hume Hwy.
"We're just talking at the moment," Thompson said in assessing the lie of the land as this year's runner-up began gearing up for an arduous pre-season.
"We don't know what he's got on his mind, whether he wants to stay in the city or move back to the country, but naturally we'd love to have him come back and play for us."
Enticing former players back to the club is high on the agenda for Euroa, with Thompson hopeful a sprinkling of "foreigners" will complement a quality list of homegrown talent.
"We'd love to get a bloke like Rory Hilton because he's a local and that's the way we'd like to go, rather than just attracting out-oftowners," he said.
"Having said that, I don't know if he'll be in our budget.
"But we'll keep talking with him.
"We've got a lot of players we're talking to."
Talking football again is something the popular leader is just starting to come to terms with, particularly after Euroa's shock 11-point loss to Seymour in the grand final six weeks ago.
"It was devastating, gutwrenching to get beaten in the grand final when you've played so well all year, losing just one game before that game," Thompson said.
"David (Gleeson) has had some time off and hasn't really been thinking too much about football, but I spoke to him recently and we'll be doing a lot more talking pretty soon."
While Hilton remains a question mark, Thompson is adamant former Magpie star Andrew Mills won't be back next year, but remains hopeful of a return from Western Australia the following season.
"Andrew will be playing another year in Perth, with maybe the chance of coming back after that," he said.
"But that will be another year, with maybe another person in the chair, so who knows what will happen then.
"All I know is that David Gleeson said everyone from this year is saying they're staying."

Robinson on the move, probably his own worst enemy over the past 2.5 years, struggled with Hamstring injuries, lost a bit of his pace and fitness. Can agree with ya re: his dislikes for Steve, obviously those who miss out on winning a flag after playing through the tough times is going to be hurt, but its just as hard for steve to pick a side, there wouldn't be a club that won a flag who didn't have blokes disapointed, and bitter for missing out. Its the way the football world works. Unfortunate part of it i suppose. But good luck to Tom, i'm sure there are no hard feelings from anyone at the club, he has been a great servant, always supported the club on and off the field. Maybe the change will do him the world of good, and we may see him back in the lions colours in a few years.
On the ground front, there is to be another oval put out the back of the rooms, this will accomodate junior training (maybe even games) and some pre-season runs (when it gets finished), this will take some of the traffic off the main oval.
The grass won't be the same as Tatura, they are using a grass similar to Echuca. It will go dormant and brown during the winter, they will seed rye grass every march/april to make the ground look green from the sidelines.
Don't expect any great changes, within 5 years it will probably be stuffed again, no drainage has been put in, the $100,000 budget didn't include drainage, and with the genious crew they have planning the thing, they aren't raising the middle such that the water runs off to the boundary. So it will be flat with no drainage. A heavy down poor is sure to put some lower spots on the ground. Anyway, we shall wait and see.

as much as I think the boy is talented, somehow I don't think mitiamo would be putting too much emphasis on gaining the services of pumpa jess. the other two though would be exceptional pick-ups - they would both absolutely dominate. what is the latest on it all anyway rowey - did you hear anything over the w'end?? if they were to leave they'd be massive losses for rochy especially pepsi. I'd like to see dirty's face if pepsi were to tell him he was moving on. I'd suggest that he wouldn't be working at rochy tyres and batteries the following monday morning - put it that way.
regarding the pub situation yeah I guess they'd just have to head up the road to dingee. pearcey might still be floating around out that way so she might be able to show the boys a good time if required. if that were to fall through naomi was always up for a challenge. it was a bit of a drive to see her though.

EAGLES GET THEIR GUY
By Trent Horneman
November 7 2005
Riverine Herald
Echuca United has won the race to secure the services of Sydney Swans rookie Guy Campbell.
Campbell signed on as Eagles' assistant coach yesterday, ending weeks of speculation.
He has signed on with the Eagles for 2006, unless he is thrown an AFL lifeline in the National AFL draft later this month.
Campbell, 23, comes to United after a year with the Sydney Swans as a rookie. He was unable to continue with the Swans because he was too old to be retained as a rookie.
His return to Victoria sparked interest from a number of clubs around the region, including VFL club Bendigo Bombers, where he played two seasons in 2003-04.
Coach Mark Heritage said he was thrilled to have signed Campbell to the club, adding to the team's on-field leadership.
Campbell will join Duane Hueston, Simon McCarty and Heritage in the leadership group, with all looking forward to a big season.
"It gives us a great nucleus of leaders. We have some quality people who are leaders of this club.
"As a club we are tickled pink to have Guy on board," Heritage said.
Campbell played junior football with United and said he was pleased to be coming home.
"It was a terrific experience to be up there (Sydney) during their premiership season.
"I had a chance to learn off the best," he said.
Campbell is the first of the club's major signings for the 2006 season, with the club looking to add some other new names to the list.
"We are talking to other prospective players at the moment," Heritage said.
Campbell might just be the tonic the Eagles need to climb into the Murray Football League top five.
After heavy recruiting last pre-season, which saw McCarty, Heuston, Michael Walker, Anthony Baker, Luke Jones and Nick Ioranni end up in Eagles jumpers, the club struggled to gel.
With most of last year's playing list retained, Heritage said it was exciting times ahead for Echuca United.

Nothing wrong with being loyal, but when blokes are pumping up his tyres on how good he supposedly could be, then what Im saying is what is he scared of? A year in the GV doesn't mean he's disloyal. If he's as good as a few say (dont forget some goose was talking drafts) then let's have a look at him at a better standard.

Being a long time servant of the club (especially through some down years) I'm sure they will make sure he notches up his 200 regardless of form etc.
I thought I read in the Weekender this year that he has already played 200, but maybe I'm thinking of someone else. Did any Seymour players reach that mark this year - Schottner perhaps?

Ben got life membership from the league because of the handful of interleague games he's played.
The grand final was his 199th. Had Stevie D not made him come back through the Scoobies after he'd missed a couple of weeks through injury he would have played his 200th in the granny.

It was from one of the players who played their first year there this year, so i would assume they would know.
As i said, it is a rumour. but a rumour from a person within the Euroa camp. So i can do nothing but believe it.
Anyway, Rattray has apparently signed. He said if things don't work out he would make a return to seymour, but Daniel said to give the bombers a red hot go for a year, give it all he's got and then if VFL isn't for him, then Seymour would love to have him back.
He said to me he was moving there, so i can only assume they have signed him, wouldn't be on a lot of coin though. They probably helped him get a job, and a place, that would be about it.

If you look back a few pages Zippa, there is an article from the Shepp. News about this. I haven't read it, so I can't tell you what's happening.
Howse is a big loss. He is a very good player.

Is Vinnie Datoli still in charge of Bundoora? Does Vinnie know of King's dislike towards him? I hear Vinnie was one of the madest blokes to be seen on a DVFL footy field. Still laugh at the day Johny Mac s#@t himself in a big epping vs lalor clash - I knew nothing of Datoli til then, but was watching with me mate Gav Mutz and he said watch this bloke (Datoli) - Vinnie had big brave johny mac bluffed.
Vinnie is still in charge. Im not sure but King did sit a year out of footy before heading to euroa because of his dislike towards datoli. Yeah vinnie did belt a few blokes in his day but also got belted himself a few times. Once by big spider shaw.
Howse is a big loss. He is a very good player.
One tough SOB but a nice bloke. One he starts winging get out of the way.
Good pick up for the Bunnies. hear a whisperhim and Caddy going back to there local club, ELtham.
Seems we are all pretty familiar with most inside info regarding most GVFL clubs, however 3 clubs I have hardly heard much about are Kyabram, Echuca and Shepp United. Don't suppose anyone has any idea what is going on with these clubs? Looks like 10 of the 12 GVFL clubs will be vying for a finals berth and will be stiff to miss out. The other 2 I think will miss out is Ky and United, but that is obviously cos I havnt heard much about them. Echuca, should be knocking on the finals door, theyr too good to stay down. Whats happening there Echuca boy, I think you mentioned 8 new players? Any Craig Sholl types? Looks like a very close, competitive season where anyone on their day could beat anyone! Can't wait for the season to start!!

great enthusiasm chance but I am afraid we'll have to wait a while for the first bounce in round 1 in the next season. heaps of beers to sink in between now and then.

let me guess which three - bears, united and swans??
he'd be a pretty handy pick-up for any club I'd reckon. still can't really believe essendon delisted him. definitely would be worth another afl club taking the punt on him imo.

Big call writing off the Lions so soon Sidey. Granted they'll find things tougher next year given they'll be the hunted every week, but there aren't going to be that many personnel changes that would spark a slide all the way out of the 6.

That is a rediculous statement. The eagles have lost Tranquilli, mensch and hulme. And i haven't heard anything about any others 100% staying other than trewhella.
I'd expect a slip from the top for the eagles in 06. If they made the finals considering the increase of potential to swans, tat, mooroopna, maybe even united. THe only team i would probably pencil in the finals is Euroa. But anything can happen, what happens if they get injuries, others will swamp on them.
Anyway, got my hands on the latest draw, few changes have been made. In fact, quite a few. Enjoy the read.

Hey Echucaboy, have you heard anything about Durie? I heard a rumour yesterday that he might be on the go.
And of course, there is the annual Rhys Archard rumour. I assume he will stick around and terrorise the comp again.
I heard Moama have been chasing Durie pretty hard, can't a see him leaving Echuca, I also heard Echuca are close to getting a couple of nathalia signatures including one of the gemmills, can anyone confirm this?

Looks like Karl Norman might not be moving to Mooroopna after all.
Bulldogs give wayward Blue training time
By Stephen Rielly
November 9, 2005
The Western Bulldogs have officially invited former Carlton defender Karl Norman to train with the club after coach Rodney Eade met the 22-year-old at Whitten Oval yesterday.
The Dogs spoke to Norman to establish his interest in continuing to play at AFL level, which was in doubt after he was delisted by Carlton four weeks ago.
Despite the impoverished state of their list, the Blues released the talented and tall backman in the wake of a string of indiscretions stretching back several years. He played 27 matches for the Blues over three years but was estranged from some senior players after being disciplined for attending training under the influence of the recreational drug ecstasy in 2004.
Eade said yesterday he did not offer Norman any commitment other than the opportunity to train in the lead-up to the national draft on November 26, although the club has declared its interest in recruiting a defender.
"We've made no secret of the fact we want a another backman, which is why we invited Brett Montgomery down and now Karl," Eade said. "We think Kasey Green is committed to someone, but we'll explore that avenue as well.
"With Karl, though, we're not sure that he will be available to us or sure of what position we'll be in to recruit him if he is available, but everyone knows he is a talent."

Very strong rumour that after nominating for the A.F.L. draft Essendon have asked Saad X 2 if he would come and do a pre season with them. Great news for the freak show and hope everything goes well for him. I am sure he will be a huge loss to the Lions in 2006.

I didn't know Mansfield lost a few but i can't see why Euroa won't make it with their list.
So it's not a 'rediculous statement'.

Davey to lead Lions' reserves
November 9 2005
Seymour Telegraph
Dual Seymour premiership player Ben Davey will be captaincoach of Seymour's reserves next year, replacing Andrew Jago, who has taken the side to the finals in the past two seasons.
"We are rapt to have someone with Ben's experience on board and look forward to a lot of local support for the reserves this coming season," Seymour Football Club president Paul Cox said last weekend.
"Ben is a true Seymour man and very popular amongst his peers and with his experience and leadership, should be able to lead the side into the finals yet again."
As has been the trend around Seymour in recent seasons, the cast of assistant coaches will also be quite formidable with Cox announcing he will be assisted off the ground by Gerard O'Sullivan, Mark Bender and Craig Zotti, who bring many years of playing and coaching experience to the brains trust.
This year was a huge year for Davey, becoming a Goulburn Valley Football League life member on the day of the second semifinal and a Seymour life member at the club's presentation night in October. He has played 199 senior games for the club and three league representative games.
Davey is also a dual premiership player, firstly as a teenager in 1991 and then as a veteran this year and has one more milestone to achieve when he runs out for his 200th senior game with the Lions at some stage next year.
For Davey, it will be his second coaching appointment, having previously coached St Mary's under-15s in 1994, also alongside Gerard O'Sullivan, and is looking forward to the challenge next year.
"I have been lucky to enjoy a bit of success with the seniors in the past couple of years and am looking forward to putting something back in with the local players and having a bit of fun," he said.
"I'll still be trying to play senior footy when I can and see this as the transition to the next stage of my career and am looking forward to the challenge."
Former Lion and a good friend of Davey's, Chris Martin, has taken on a similar role at Wodonga and has enjoyed some success with two premierships in a row and this is a good chance to keep the local side together as well as mount a serious challenge on the finals for the third year in a row.
Next year also represents the 20th anniversary of Seymour's last reserves flag and preseason training starts on November 23.
United have picked up a good recruit this season, a few out of the thirds will play seniors. The Hazelman's are back so don't write the dee's off yet.

You forgot Seymour, the won the flag and with no news on comings and goings would presume they would make the finals before Mansfield would especially after losing Mensch

No harm in trying, though i think you will see Sage at Euroa next year, he will miss the first couple of games as he will be overseas. But by round 5 you will see him kicking the ball 70 meters straight to Grainger in the goal square.
Not sure on Hilton, but he has got some very close friends playing for Euroa.
SAAD'S SHOT AT BOMBERSBy Richard Goodbody
November 10 2005
Shepparton News
High-flying Seymour premiership hero Saad Saad could soon be landing at Windy Hill.
The mercurial superstar, who this year led Seymour to a euphoric Goulburn Valley Football League premiership, attended a meeting with Essendon officials late last night before donning the red and black training guernsey for a gruelling track session.
While the Bombers had not lodged Saad's paperwork with the AFL at the time of going to print, it is expected they will make a request today for the 22-year-old to join them on a regular basis ahead of the AFL National Draft on November 26.
Not surprisingly, the former VFL forward was delighted with the news yesterday.
"I'm rapt," Saad said.
"There's been no promises (about being drafted), but I'm in with a shot.
"I just want to put my best foot forward."
Over the years, Essendon coach Kevin Sheedy has shown a willingness to look outside of the circle when it comes to recruiting and managing players.
Dean Wallis, Courtney Johns and more recently Andrew Lovett are just some of the men Sheedy has invested his faith in before later being rewarded.
Taking the Lions' magician straight from the GVFL, however, could be a prospect that even Sheedy may baulk at.
But according to the man himself, he's one player the four-time premiership coach should punt on.
"I've still got a lot of good footy ahead of me," Saad said.
"I'm only 22 and Craig Bradley played until he was 39 and Nathan Buckley's still playing at 34, so there's no reason why I couldn't have a long career.
"I did a pre-season with them in 2002 and then got cut which was pretty disappointing, but now I've got a second chance."
After barnstorming his way into the GVFL, which included a bag of 11 goals against Rochester on debut, Saad delivered on his enormous potential by leading the Lions to premiership glory.
The small forward bagged 99 goals for the season, while electrifying the crowds with his sublime skills and aerial genius.
Saad has previously played with the Northern Bullants in the VFL.

Essendon's approach to glamour Seymour forward Saad Saad did not happen by accident. While the former Northern Bullant is a player of enormous talent, Saad can also thank Seymour teammate Stuart Peterson for lending a helping hand.
After dominating the Goulburn Valley Football League Grand Final, not to mention the home and away season, Peterson compiled a DVD of Saad's finest moments before it was mailed to the AFL's 16 clubs.
After liking what it saw, Essendon recently invited the 22-year-old to join its training ranks.
