Jock, don't brush me off man.
Apparently there is a little unrest at Moama with the new coach coming in and eliminating the incentives that were on offer under Viney.
It's good for the top guns, but the boys down the batting order aren't so impressed.
Expect the club to drop off in the run home if my info is correct

My apologies...a keyboard faux pas, sorry about that Mainy...
Can Tonny push Rochy this week?
I hope not jock, however they certainly could push us. their form hasn't been that bad, and imo they are not near as poor as their win/loss ratio and percentage suggests. they seem to have some pretty handy players and with a bit of rain who knows what might happen...
still though, you'd expect a tigers win!!

Raining here in melbourne and hopefully the tigers den is receiving the mother of all downpours. Our form in the mud is ok, only just getting pipped with a kick after the siren by Echuca three weeks back. Look out tigers and then after that Tatura!!
yeah a fair bit of rain down here hey travvy.
what is your surname mate??
good luck for this week. I'd usually love to see tonny win their games as I have a huge soft spot for them, however not this week I am afraid!!

Looking forward to the game, rochy are always tuff to beat and even more so on their home ground where they seem to grow a third leg.

ohh g'day jake. it was the travvy that through me!!
my name is matt doolan, and not j main although he is a mate of mine. I usually use his name in instances like this, just as I would if I were to do a runner on a taxi or ring a chick at 2:00am on a sunday morning!!
I will be playing my first game for rochy this year this w'end in the 2's - can hardly wait!! he he.

Off to training now at Arden St to go and give carts and sammy brennan a couple of corkies.

yeah, do that mate ha ha. I live with them two!! carts won't be there tonight as he is back in rochy. actually, come to think of it I don't think sammy will go either as he usually doesn't train when its wet ha ha. oh well, you might have to save it for the w'end.

The ground is pretty ordinary. I trained tonight and the whole centre is very muddy. Otherwise, the ground is very slippery.
Heard a rumour that Tongala 2nds have a few players on permit. Should be an interesting game.
Good to have young Doolan back. I wonder if he will wear #21 that he made so famous during his illustrious 3rds career.

Its not all about money........arse hairy, the incentives Viney was offering were ridicuolous $700 best on $500 2nd best $300 3rd best 200 4th and 5th best $100 6th best or somehting very simliar to that.....which intern meant there wasnt much player payment happening, basically due to the fact that there werent many good players to pay.
Why would the team start to drop off now and why would there be unrest at this stage in the season.......? wouldnt they have been "allegedly" sooking about this at the start of the year???
You dont know what your on about best on still gets $300 and there are 3 or 4 others worth around the 200 to 100 mark. And there are also blokes actually getting paid to play seinors this year.
The reason Viney offered incentives is because by the time the season was about to start viney realised he had a ********t side and he thought that "money" would attract a crowd cos he couldnt recruit anyone.
are they getting many at training these days rowey??
also, did crowey run the old torps circle work drill last night seeing it was wet??
catchya tomorrow.

Well the blues put in a spirited fightback in the last quarter (as you said jock the rochy boys fell away late in the game) kicking 8 gals to one, but rochies leade was just a bit to much to reel in.
See benella whipped the dogs with symes on fire. Blues v tatura next week will be a big game. I see tatura acquired some signifiant injuries throughout the game
Just jumped on board boys. Had a look at the gvfl website and it looks to be an even comp this year. Euroa on top from seymour and play each other in 2 weeks time. Surely that will be a cracker of a match and will be the grand final preview, whats your thoughts on that and who do you think will it?

I think if Mansfield can get there injury worries corrected and have there players firing they will go back to back.
Euroa are a very good side but i think there is a little more fire power at Seymour and i would think Seymour will get the win.

More firpower at Seymour!!!! They only have Saad in the leading goalkickers while euroa have grainger and bamford in the leading goalkickers. Ive heard all about saad and his exploits but surely to avenues to goal are alot better than the one. I hear both teams have really good midfields as well. So its a matter of which back six can contian their oppostion, i believe. I did notice that euroa beat them round 1 in seymour. But seymour seem to be scoring pretty heavily of late.
Should be a ripper of a gme, hopefully both teams are full strength if they arent already.

Don't forget Matty Collins in regards to the Lions firepower, booted 15 in his past two outings and has 33 for the season from not many games. With my mob having the bye on July 16, I too wanna see both teams near enough to full strength A-MAC, it sure will be a beauty. If you get the chance get along and watch Saad Saad, worth the $8 in just to watch him play.

who is ben shelton???? i have followed euroas progress this year and i havent heard of him!!! does he play in the 2's??? they have some gun recruits in shane and mark clayton, daniel sage, mark janz and daniel howse who have definatly lifted the standard of the team!!! i think they can go all the way if they can get over the line against seymor in a few weeks!!! they are both powerful teams but i believe euroas forward line with grainger, bamford, janz and hyatt and their midfield with too many to mention will be too good for seymor!!! what do you guys think???

ben shelton is a chb recruited from the northern bullants. he missed the first 6-7 games due to injury but has slotted in well into a good backline. He has recently beaten forys of shep united and murphy of echuca pretty easily. He also had a great dual with singh to what ive been told. Could be a key player to stop saad. euroas midfield is very good but dont under estimate an experienced midfield of seymour. Euroa may have to many goalkickers though.
Obviously you Shelts. Keep out of that Elephant & Wheelbarrow you drunkard.
I think you're onto something there young whippet. But maybe you should have a look at your own form and stop picking on promo girls at a cerrtain pub in hawthorn on sunday nights... and their mothers for that matter...
Young B. Shelton is in great form though. I think his duel with Saad could determine the outcome of the massive top of the table clash in a couple of weeks time. Should be great to watch...

Ben Shelton sounds like a handy player but i think saad saad will be too good for him!!! I think shelton may be better on the taller forwards by the sounds of it!!! i think if you tag saad he will be out of the game!!! i heard daniel thompson was doing a good tagging job this year!!! will he get the role??? WHo at seymor will be able to stop all the tall forwards of euroa eg grainger janz and hyatt as their full back joffa anderson will be playing in the vic country team that weekend!! I don't know how their second tier backman are but each of euroas tall forwards run a muck everyweek and they are on fire at the moment!!! grainger is in great form at FF where he is unstoppable, janz does a great job either forward or in the ruck where he is unstoppable and hyatt is great at chf!!! any suggestions on who will keep these giants quiet??? also to mention who will stop ever reliable craig bamford??? I think seymor will have a few worries on the day!!! who do you guys think will win this match of the season???

Ive watched both team play at various times this year and it will be a cracker of a match, which will most likely be a grand final preview. Saad Saad is a brilliant player and will win games but I have heard that he doesnt like it when people niggle at him all day and can go missing in big games. Matty Collins is a genuine workhorse but tends to only kick bags against lower sides. Their midfield is a an ageing won in haberman and amad but they do rack up plenty of the ball so better be careful of them. Hooper off the half back is explosive and reads play well. Also likes to run off his opponent so he could be exposed if by his opponent. As for Euroa. Grainger is a really good ff but is lazy as he doesnt chase and doesnt move out of the forward 30m. Jansz has been over rated this year. He kicked 11 against tat and has struggled for remaindeer of year. euroa has a really good midfield but they seem to be front running all the time, lets see if they handle the pressure. Both backlines are no world beaters but do their jobs. Seymour has a wilcard in Ben Bailey, apparently this guy can play and if he is right he could win the game changing with schottner. If gibson is right then there is another player seymour might have to stop. Alot of melbourne boys have been injured for periods of time for euroa in m.clayton, mcbrien, gibson and shelton so fitness may play a big role. My tip is a draw.

You wouldn't chase either Footyboss if you were in Graingers conundrum. I've heard that if you check underneath Graingers footy socks, there is one of those electronic tags/tracking device, (used by criminals on day release) which prevents him from moving 37m from the goal line, otherwise he recieves a 240v electrical shock.
Back to the big game though, I believe Euroa have too much firepower in the middle of the ground, giving their forwards a lot more opportunity, and if Seymour is missing their most important backman in Jeff Anderson, Euroa's forwards will have a massive advantage.
Everyone talks about Seymours gun recruits from Melbourne, but a player who often slips under the radar is Robert Douglas. Very handy player, smart, skillful, and hard at the ball.
The game will be won, not so much by the top 15 players from each side, but more so, how the bottom 6 players perform.

Spot on about Douglas there Whippet. "Chipper" rarely gets mentioned alongside Habers, Saad, Schotty and co. but gets the job done each week. Another top Broady boy doing very very well in major league footy.

Very negative responses from you footyboss!!! Seems like your a kind of bloke that likes to pick negatives out of some very good positives for both teams!!! Could you find anythoing positive to say about 2 of the best sides in the GVFL??? Fair enough all the mentioned players have their strengths and weaknesses but they all are there to help their clubs become successful and i think every player mentioned has done their bit to ensure their club will be a force come september!!!

Good to hear, was a terrific player at Calder in his TAC Cup days and his little brother is doing well down there at the moment, probably going to be drafted.
Some interesting theories there....
Whippet, A.K.A etc, stop talking dribble. Revolver? If your talking guns you probably should just pull the trigger!
I think footyboss has made a valuble point in regards to Euroa and frontrunning. They have an exceptional midfield, but questions will be answered come finals time. Completely different game come September, no easy kicks just tough footy. I suspect S.Clayton will go missing when the sun is shining in the warmest month of the footy season.

How good a coach must David Williams be, I see he has Rochy in the six at the moment, lost all them players didn't recruit many has no depth but still can get Rochy to be competitive and maybe a place in the finals a pretty fair effort i would say.

I do not follow anyone in the GV nor do I come from Rochy, but it is one thing to be a good coach with good cattle and a good coach with no cattle, I know Rochy have not done as well as they probably should have as far as winning GF but I am sure every club in the GV would like to be in their shoes.

Mainy will know this but not many would, that most of their best players would travel back from melbourne and play on the weekends. the core group, rassy, campbell, mcCarty etc. didnt even train with the group which would make coaching all that harder for dirty.
Also Mainy what has happened to the rivalry the last coule of years,Echuca Vs Rochy I know it is still talked about and it is pressure footy but will we ever see the physicality and the punch ups that were common place 3-4 years ago.
I think the departure of jughead, silas and herritage could have something to do with that??

I didn't get to their earlier clash in round 1 either but hopefully will see this weeks game. am not sure what has happened with the rivalry, whilst there is obviously still some there I would have to agree with you in saying it has waned a bit in the past few years. perhaps it has something to do with the likes of heritage and dirty not playing anymore. or perhaps it might be because both teams seem to have many young players who maybe haven't encountered the big rochy-echuca clashes of 5 years back. who knows??
it all makes for a ripper game this w'end though browny - the winner will clinch a finals berth imo.

both euroa and seymour at full strength should be a cracker as for shepp and the grand final i think mansfield euroa and seymour are ahead of them at this stage but you would think the premier will come from one of them four
Was lucky enough to catch the Euroa/Seymour clash on the weekend . . . and must say Euroa will take some beating. Both sides were missing key players, but in difficult conditions, Euroa used the ball better early and were stronger through the middle for much of the match. Sage and Thomson were very good for the victors, with Grainger (4) and Bamford (3) important up forward. Was surprised Inness wasn't selected to play on Bamford, but must add Robbie was very good in the reserves game.
Schottner rucked superbly all day for Seymour, but the Lions couldn't capitalise on their skippers dominance with Joey Amad out injured and Haberman battling to have any real influence. Patty Rattray presented all day at CHF, and Tim Hooper tried.
I noticed Tat made it back to back wins, with me old Broady mate Kirbs amongst the best yet again. Tonny didn't score a goal against the Bears, tell me would have to be close to a first in GV footy, a side not registering a major???

I noticed Tat made it back to back wins, with me old Broady mate Kirbs amongst the best yet again. Tonny didn't score a goal against the Bears, tell me would have to be close to a first in GV footy, a side not registering a major???
Good stuff.
I watched Rochester defeat Echuca by over 100 points. The weather was unbeliable - it was raining pretty hard and windy, which makes the result pretty interesting. Before the game, Rochester were 4 points ahead on the ladder.
Rochester now play Euroa at home next week. In round 2 they lost by 4 or 5 goals I think after being only a goal down at 3/4 time. Should be a good game.
Kyabram 10.12 bt Shepparton Swans 5.6
Mansfield 8.14 bt Benalla 8.8
Shepparton 15.9 bt Tongala 0.9
Tatura 6.9 bt Shepparton Utd 4.8
Rochester 19.15 bt Echuca 2.9
Euroa 10.11 bt Seymour 7.7

Was lucky enough to catch the Euroa/Seymour clash on the weekend . . . and must say Euroa will take some beating. Both sides were missing key players, but in difficult conditions, Euroa used the ball better early and were stronger through the middle for much of the match. Sage and Thomson were very good for the victors, with Grainger (4) and Bamford (3) important up forward. Was surprised Inness wasn't selected to play on Bamford, but must add Robbie was very good in the reserves game.

???
As the mighty red legs had the bye this week I made the trek up the hulme to watch a fantastic display of football in terrible conditions.
Euroas forwards missed a few easy shots early on, which could have seen them up by about 6 goals early. Thomson played a brilliant game on Saad keeping him to two handballs and a bull***** goal from the square after the ball fell into his hands for a mark after bouncing off his back. Steve Daniel didnt seem to impressed with Saad when he dragged him for the third and final time midway through the final term! Adrian Hammil was clearly best on ground playing off a back flank, and marked and cut off seymours drive into attack all day. For the lions Schottner was his usual self in the ruck, though the conditions didnt allow him to be as effective around the ground as normal, and Rattray was really damaging in the air until it started p*****g down rain half way through the third.
Great game of footy with the magpies looking very dangerous at the moment.

Without doubt, I think seymour and euroa would be the two most talanted sides going around in the competition. Shepparton, although lacking the talent of the maggies or lions are a very well drilled line up. They have some potential match winners in Ash, Byers, Hickmont and Mellington. Maybe their discipline/ system could surprise some more talented sides come september.

Where do you blokes rate Benalla? Haven't beaten a side above them, although haven't been beaten by much when they have been beaten.
Saw a post on the VAFA thread comparing AFL sides to the AMMO sides and thought it might be good to bring up here. What AFL clubs have the same distinct feel or history as the GV clubs??
Seymour - St Kilda
After years of struggling and always looking to be able to have a real shot at a premiership they finnaly have the cattle and $$$ to get there. While we all know a few of the Seymour boys are wild and like a bit of trouble on and off the field it is not to disimiliur to the Saints.
Echuca - North Melbourne
They might not have alot of money but they are rarely out of the mix and have always been well coached. Seem to have that real fighting spirit and a bunch of guys who are loyal to the club. While not the most talented side they will never give up.
Euroa - Port Adelaide
Seem to be a bit hot and cold year to year while they have talent and money and are unbeatable on there day the club there is just that something missing that suggests they could be a power for years . Like Port of the last year they are expected to take the points at the end of the season, the problem is are they gonna choke??
Kyabram - Western Bulldogs
They always seem to have good youngsters and have solid experienced players but where is the depth?? Arent blessed with the money that alot of the other clubs and in recent times havent had that winning culture. Everyone can see that the potential is there but can the club bring the potential to the fore??
Benalla - Fremantle
Years of mediorcrity but for the first time in a long while they seem to have the cattle to really challenge yet for some unforseen reason they just cant string it together. Is it the culture?? is it the coaching?? is it the style of play?? the club have great youngsters and seem to be finacilly strong but why cant they go that step further??. All these questions are similiur to the ones fans will be asking of the Dockers come seasons end.
Mansfield - Brisbane
Sucessfull and strong, have the best coach in the league and the best bunch of quality experienced players in the league. While maybe not living up to potential and expectations so far this year there is that something about the side that suggest they are a time bomb ready to explode. Write them off at your own regard.
Mooroopana - Hawthorn
Cashed up but in recent times have never been any good, always seem to throw a bit of coin around and attract 1 or 2 star players a season but they never seem to be any good at the Cats. Potential is there and while we all know they are down the club have the smarts in administration to pick them up from the ditch they are in, a strong following is also a highlight of the club. Watch betting, could be a suprise next season.
Shepparton - Adelaide
Feral, money, history of success its the crows and bear all over.
Shepp Swans - Melbourne
Have a proud history and a older loyal band of supporters, recent times havent been the happiest but this proud football club always seem to give an honest account of them selves. With richer and bigger clubs surrounding them it makes it hard for this mob to kick on and become a power.
United - Collingwood
Everyone hates them and everone loves beating them. The club think there ******** dont stink but the rest of the league have proven otherewise. A club that is proud yeat arrogant and living in past success, a long way for them to find there feet before we can say anything positive.
Tatura - Essendon
The rolls royce of the GV, the club seems to have an endless supply of $$$ and fascilities that are the envy of everyone in the league. Are down at the moment but for how long is the question, if you think that this big club cant turn around there fortunes in 1 year then your blind. If there is a club in the league who can go from bottom to top in 1 season its Tatura.
Tongala - Fitzroy
Arrhhh

Gibson and Lamaro played, and Rochy won't beat Euroa...one slip up could cost the Maggies a top two spot...

Both Gibson and Lamaro played but didn't have any impact.
If Euroa were ever going to slip up in a game they are expected to win then this wk is it. The game is @ Rochy and I cant remember the pies claiming the points over there in the last 5-10 years. The word is Euroa Coach Gleeson is constanly at his charges about taking their foot off the pedal and I'd expect this wk to be no different down at memorial oval.

Should be a good game Junkie. Rochy have Eurora and then Seymour over the next 2 weeks so they would be keen win at lease one of those.

I have been told this week that euroa haven't beaten rochy in rochy for 12 years or something. obviously the magpies are a lot stronger now than they were, however I most definately will not be writing the tigers off this week. were only beaten by 3 goals or something to them in round 2 wasn't it??

You say they could be like new recruits for Rochy - watch out for the Doolan brothers also who have come out of retirement, both fit as a fiddle, not an ounce of fat on them, agile and silky smooth skills. Looks like Rochy have secured their spot in the finals now so watch out!

Had a look at the GV website and it was 30 points. Completely different euroa side this time round though, with them putting their full strength side on the field last week bar Howse. David Williams is an exceptional coach and manages to squeeze a lot out of his players, though I'm sure Gleeson will be drilling into his players the importance of winning danger games like these. I think the chance to break a 12 year drought over at rochy should provide the euroa players plenty of motivation to get themselves up for this game.

Played at rochester 3 weeks ago now which was the first weekend of the wet and well it was wet and boggy, so after an additional two weeks of wet i can only assume it is heavy. Two ticks though for the club in installing the new undercover area, it was badly overdue

Was lucky enough to attend the top of the table clash between euroa and seymour on saturday in the rain. It was a very good game with euroa proving that are a very strong team. By all reports both teams were at full strength minus howse for euroa and amad for seymour. After watching that game i believe seymour will not beat euroa at all. saad was shut perfectly by thomson and collins was shut down by shelton and mcbrien. euroas midfeild was to strong and seymours backline is suspect. euroa will beat a dertimined rochy outfit this weekend as they will have to many strengths over the ground. My tip is it will be either euroa or mansfeid celebrating come the end of september. Gibson and lamaro will get better with the runs.

yeah I heard one of them will be back for the tat game he he.
the rochy ground wasn't looking all that great the last time a game was played there as travvy43 will attest to but then again I don't think any ground around the area would have been looking half decent that w'end. rochy haven't played there in 3 weeks due to away games at shepp united and echuca - so hopefully it'll come up ok.

I know Jeff Anderson was on vic Counctry duties on sunday which i assume means he did not play on the saturday against Euroa. That would explain the deficiencies in the lions defense on the weekend. He is their main defender
Jeff is definately a great player, but considering theres not six of him I dont think he would have been the difference between the two sides... Euroa could have won by over ten goals in the wet if they kicked straight last week...

Bad luck. Should be a good game.
In regards to Rochy's ground, having trained their two nights a week and playing there every second week, I would say it's holding up pretty well. The only issue is the centre area where the cricket pitch is - that usually gets boggy in the wet. However, no one has played on the ground in 3 weeks so it's OK.

I'd usually say that Echuca would lift for the O'Brien Cup and knock Tat off, doubt there are enough players there this year who recognise its importance, therefor they'll struggle to lift for it.
