Sorry mate, but from a rochy point of veiw I was shattered to read that Rochy wasn't in your top 3 of most hated club. The rivalry has definately died off a little in the past few seasons, and I fear that this will continue this year with echuca's departures. Time to bring back the rivalry I say! :)

Obviously the leading goal kicker in the 1's will come from the obvious candidates in: Saad, Mench, Grainger and co, but im interested to hear whom is favourite for the two's?? Can Brad Bishop recapture form and more importantly will team mates (including nick lane) hand ball shots at goal to help him achieve a remarkable 2nd goal kicking award?

By Mensch, I'm guessing you mean David, who no longer plays GV footy.
He may, however, go close in the Geelong league with his home club, Grovedale.
Ricky Symes is the reigning leading goal kicker...he will be thereabouts again.

Pretty certain Mensch has gone back down Geelong way, Ricky Symes won it last year didnt he? With #12 Maher ining up in the two's at Euroa in 2006, Bishop could end up a lot shorter in the betting. I heard Nick Lane was going with former coach Jago to his WRFL club.

Bishop's never really been out of form; his problems over the past two seasons have been hamstrings that don't want to stay in tact for any longer than a month at a time and a chunky coach with an aversion to giving him much game time.

The hated clubs thing is a good topic - im casting my mind back to 3rds and 2's days at the Lions to think of the most hated clubs:
3 votes: Shepp Swans. There was nothing better than beating a shepp side, and to knock these blokes off a couple of times during my time was no exception to the rule. Also after seeing that Video of what their coach did last year, they've go the chockies by a street.
2 Votes: Shepp United.

the team I used to enjoy playing against the most was Rochy. Rochy was always a tough but fair game, which im sure Brad Rowe and Jmain14 would agree with, and the majority of contests were always close.

1.5 to each of the 3 shepp sides and 'gozling'.
Friendship lures Best to Cattery

Shepparton News
Goulburn Valley Football League representative midfielder Jarrod Best has bypassed his former club Shepparton Swans in favour of Mooroopna.
Best, who spent the past two seasons with Eastern Football League club Doncaster, made the move to the Cats to play alongside close mates Brad and Blake Campbell.
He played for the GVFL against Ovens and Murray Football League in 2000 under Rochester coach Dave Williams.
Despite having strong ties to the Swans - his younger brother Hayden is an integral member at the club - the 26-year-old could not be happier at the Cats.
"My employment made be come back to the area and I still wanted to play GV," Best said.
"My older brother Daniel and my younger brother played at the Swans, but I've been mates for ages with Brad and Blake Campbell.
"I thought this was the right time to play with Brad before he retired."
Best has not ruled out reuniting with brother Hayden in the future, but said it would probably be in a different league.
"It is probably going to be a bit of a step up (from Doncaster) with the amount of training you have to do," he said."It's going to be a challenge, but I'm looking forward to it. It'll be good."
Cats coach Derek Hall is likely to use Best across half-forward and as a pinch-hitter in the midfield.
With Mooroopna already signing former Carlton defender Karl Norman and Wodonga onballer Nick Aloi, Best's addition should help make the Cats a fairly potent mix.
"I'll probably play across halfforward, but he (Hall) said once I get my fitness up that I could float into the midfield," he said.
The Cats' first game is against Tatura on April 15.

Only bloke I have ever actually seen cry on the football field. Was trying to tag one of our players one day and Murray Peel had a bit of a push and shove with him then ended up giving him a little jab on the cheek. Stood there sobbing with tears rolling down his cheeks for about 5 minutes while all our players (and some of his) laughed at him. Needless to say, his tagging became a little loose after that incident...
Still, was a handy GV senior player back then, anyone know how he went in the EFL???

Stephen White did play SANFL, a man mountain. Played FF mainly and ruck, very strong, but a bit slow. Have not seen him since he left the SANFL, looked in reasonable condition then, but also looked the type to put a few kilo's easily. Even if he is a bit over his best weight will take a very strong defender to budge him. Don't have up to date data on him, but in 2003 was 27 years old, 195 cms, 100 kg, bit understated the weight, I think. Had played over 140 games and over 250 goals.

Rochy had a ''training'' camp over the weekend at Corop. Apparently some of the better performers were

Echuca - 14
Mansfield - 13
Euroa - 6
Benalla - 5
Seymour - 4
Mooroopna - 4
Rochy - 1
Echuca made a late run thanks to mainly the Rochy boys, but in the end it was the arrogant, ignorant, big headed, Soft doodled, front running, snipeing, squealing, crap haired and white booted Shepparton Clubs which took the cake.
I can't believe Tat didn't make the list (neither did Ky) considering people are very quick to bag them and the Ryans'.

Words sure does spread because I heard something similar, Hearty...could big, bonnie Doona be in line for some early rises in 2006???
Say, No Heart, you seem to be in the know; any word on how the Lions camp to Portsea went over the weekend?
Heard it was a great success again, boys had to be down there by 8 pm , Mark Williams [ assistant coach Melbourne and Sandringham back to back flags ] spoke to the boys about the up and coming season and what to expect from opposition sides this year. after that i heard the boys had to do a 2 km beach run in their teams carring a stretcher with one of the coaches on it [ this was im told about 11 pm ] got to bed about 12 30am then had to be up at 530 am to do the triathlon. Saturday was made up of beach and game activitys and finished im told about 6pm, and they all went to the portsea pub for tea and gas. P King won the tri , and R Douglas team won overall, have not heard yet about any stories at the pub ??

Rochy had a ''training'' camp over the weekend at Corop. Apparently some of the better performers were
- Speedy Powels (president) who didn't get any sleep on the Friday night, not bad for a 50+ year old, and
- Heath Aitken who found himself sound asleep at 5pm on Saturday afternoon after drinking with Tim Cottom all afternoon
no modesty from you there is there ilovetogetblind. I am sure you would have done one or two cool things. ha ha heata - the old cotts trap hey.

We have over the last couple of weeks spoke about the best players in the comp, the best looking nettys most hated clubs , who pays the most dollars. So lets see who we think are the best 5 coaches in the league, here is mine and why -
No 1 Steve Daniel Seymour [ first year in the comp he stood out, won the GVFL Coach of the year and then won the senior coach of the year award . then last year took the lions to the flag, from all reports from another coach hes a gun.
No 2 D Williams Rochester [ Just got to respect him, he just keeps getting the tigers up year after year. A loyal bloke who has been with the club for years and a very smart opperater .
No 3 P Tossell Mansfield [ Heard him speak a couple of times and knows what hes talking about , very tactical and seems to have more respect than mench.
No 4 D Hall Mooroopna [ The cats seem to be getting better every year under him , and i expect them to climb into the 6 this year , leads by example.
No 5 D Gleeson Euroa [ Taken the magpies to the grand final after only dropping 1 game all year in his second year as senior coach. Worked hard to recruit all the players to make them the side that should go all the way this year.
I picked my 5 on coaching ability not playing ability, and remember its only my opinion.

Echuca's forward stocks have received a timely boost through the acquisition of Sturt premiership player Steven White.
The goal-kicking ace played more than 100 games for the South Australian National Football League club during a decorated career, which included the Blues' 2002 flag.
He then played last season with Wagga Wagga in the Canberrabased ACTAFL.
But now he's off to the Murray Bombers, who have been successful in luring him to Victoria Park for the forthcoming season and are expecting big things from their giant full-forward.
"Everyone's pretty excited about our prospects," Echuca coach Dylan Butler said.
"Especially after we signed Steven White.
"Numbers have been all right at training and those that have been training are pretty fit.
"We will up the ante a bit in the next few weeks.
"There is still a few faces missing that we'd like to see there on a more regular basis."
White's signature is expected to offset the loss of Morrison Medallist Rhys Archard, who recently signed with South Adelaide in the SANFL.
The Victorian Country representative, who was widely regarded as one of the Goulburn Valley Football League's pre-eminent players, was the Murray Bombers' second-highest goal-kicker last year, despite playing through the midfield.
n Meanwhile, Seymour's premiership defence has gained further momentum after the Lions recently signed Simon Gordon for another stint at Kings Park.
Gordon, who has not played with the club for several years, is back at the Lions' den after playing the past two seasons with Healesville in the Yarra ValleyMountain District Football League.

If we're talking best coach over the last 5 or 10 years, then Williams wins easily.
But if we're talking best coach in the league right now, then Daniel would get my nod.

EB is it true that he coaches without getting paid?

Someone was asking what Ben Wilson is doing this year a while back, might be one of Willo's ex-lovers..........
Anyway his having a run with North Beach Football Club in the amateurs in WA with Billy Duckworth the Coach.

Dirty would do a lot better if he worried about his own players on field performances rather than the oppositions, (re: Qualifying final 2005 V's Seymour). What a disgrace, and shame it was, to see a "respected" coach act this way. Would have to rate that as disappointing as the snipe by Sutherland on Saad. G.V. footy is better than these 2 instances and both were blights on the league by coaches.
I think Peter Tossoll is a much underated coach and it is a shame so many good players have left Mansfield. He will still do alright with the list he has.
Mark Adamson also underated. Would do very well if he had the fire power of a Euroa or Seymour list to work with.
D. Gleeson has earned respect as he seems to be able to get some very handy footballers to the club and gets the best out of them.
D. Hall also doing a fine job and will push the top sides in 2006.
But if runs on the board are anything to go by then Steve Daniel would have to take the cake as per Duff Man's earlier post.
So here is how I rate my coaches.
1 S. Daniel
2 P. Tossol
3 D. Gleeson
4 M. Adamson
5 D. Hall
Rising stars of this year.
Echuca - Chris Casey
Seymour - Jake Anderson
Shepparton - Rhys O Sullivan, Paul Kenelley, Geremie Ganino
Rochy - Letcher, Hann

Absolutely kidding yourself, Dirty wears his heart on his sleave and obviously was a big of a mongrel on the field eg;Dirty. I didn't see the incident but read about it on here and obviously Dirty went a bit over the top because he thought one of his players was sniped.
With the number of players Rochy had lost, then had injured they had no right to be in the top 6. If we are going by runs on the board you would surely think D. Williams is ahead of a Coach who has the "cattle" that Daniel has.
To say he is not in the top 5 is a joke.
Hmmm a Vermont lad, how you guys looking this year after the blokes that stole all your pokie money last year (eg.Barlow) have ditched you and gone to chase cash elsewhere??

GV Footy F u c k wit!
You couldn't have played in too many high intensity games if you are having a cry about a few half time words said between teams, in a final.
Look back at previous postings from BYSTANDER and replies from myself and Rowey regarding this. It wasn't Dirty hurling abuse! It was two Rochy boys, one present and one former player who were having a crack at Luke Jackson after he s h!!t himself just before half time.
Also, from memory, didn't Sudsy brake Saad's jaw? If Dirty did say something (if) how bad could it have been to compare a few words at half time to braking someones jaw?
Finally, only an ignorant c o c k suck er would not put David Williams in the top five coaches in the league. People would see your top five and think, gee, its a bit ironic he calls himself a GV Footy Fan and knows f' all about the GV.
Look forward to your reply.

The way he speaks to his players...have seen Tossol speak at huddles at Rovers, Cor-Ruth and Mansfield and I reckon he's fantastic.
Why? He has a away of berating a player that still makes him feel like he has done something positive.
At quarter and three quarter time he is very controlled. Very rarely loses it in front of spectators. If he needs to let go, it will be done behind closed doors.
Language is kept to a minimum (since when has swearing fired up a team anyway?)
Plus he has a fantastic football brain and a genuine interest in his players.
There is a fine line between being mates with your players and being too chummy.
Ask the Cor-Ruth blokes who played in premierships under him in 2000 and 2003. They love him.

Seymour would be wishing that in 5-10years time.
I was first at Rochy in 98 and Dirty has coached for nothing atleast since then. You would be looking at atleast $200,000 that Dirty has saved the club in that time. How would Rochy be competitively and financially if they had to pay for a coach over the last 14years??
what should a non-playing GVL coach get?
no doubt Tossell and Daniel are up there among the better $ earners. I'm thinking between 12 to 18k plus incentives depending on team success. Might also be other parts of the package too, such as fuel card, cheap goods and services etc...
interested to hear thoughts

Good post there FTB. I haven't heard Tossol speak but you have outlined some very good points there about how a good coach operates. A good summation and it gives me a rough idea of what he'd be like.
Interesting re the language, I always reckon it should be held back for very rare instances where a bit of impact is required. I agree, it rarely fires up blokes.
:thumbsu: Sounds like he is the reason they are still in the gv. Down here in Hampden there are far lesser coaches demanding big dollars-it can ruin clubs.10k tops for a non playing and 15-20km for a very special player/coach is reasonable. Some would still see that as extravagant but there are clubs paying way over the odds everywhere and they will regret it later. Good on Williams if thats the case Hank. Perhaps you know him better than others? If so he must be good at his job.

So you're saying any other non-playing coaches Rochy may have got in the last 8 seasons would have cost at least $25k per season? I doubt those figures. Most non playing coaches would be on a lot less than that.
That said, he has saved Rochester loads though.
One thing is for sure, you would be hard pressed to get a better coach. He is obviously one of the most loyal football people going around and has a great football brain.
I'm sure we won't find too many people willing to coach for nothing at any level of footy.

Sorry mate will elaborate for you, since 98 is 9years including this year and I assumed he would have done it for nothing atleast 1 year before then (more than likely more) so that is $20,000 a year for 10 years, I would think most major league clubs would take David Williams for that. Also wasnt always non-playing, played until 2001 so there is a minimum 4 years as playing coach thrown in. So thats how I came up with atleast $200,000.
Cheers
