I was fortunate enough to see him play 3 games 2 of which he went off before half time bacause of a hamstring injury. I was very keen to see him play because he was a great player at richmond when he wasnt injured. Speaking to the opponents that played on him they said he seemed very disinterested in both games. He went off in the game against Mansfield before half time (in the crunch game to get them into the finals) suspect and one of the Mansfield boys said it was a very suspect injury. Thats all I know about his year. I spose getting paid a bit of coin will bring doubt over your motivation for missing games etc. I also thought he signed on for two years (dont quote me on that) and has only played one...

How can one of the Mansfield boys claim it's a very suspect injury? What was his injury in that game?

He did agree to play for 2 years, but Im pretty sure he wont be suiting back up in the Euroa jumper again due to other factors like work and study.
Seemed very disinterested in both games, that has me thinking. From memory the first time they played up in Mansfield he had kicked 2 goals and gave off another before tearing his hamsrting in the 5 minute mark of the 2nd qtr. Cant remember the other game against Mansfield.
Which other game did you watch him play?

you are wrong ... Seymour did play Benalla in the grand final But being the Grand Final and not actually a part of the home and away season i was referring to Euroa choking towards the end of the home and away season not even making the finals ya goose
You were saying Euroa choked though. Its a bit hard for a team to choke, when majority of the season they were sitting outside the 6.
Whats your beef with Euroa anyway? You seem to be very annoyed with that particular club.
When does everyone kick off their practice matches?

Skillz isn't sure what he's saying. If you go back and read his posts, he specifically talked about choking in the Grand Final (2005), and wasn't referring to last year's H&A season.

[quote=TuskenRaider;6711184]It's not a highly feasible at all to guess that the club received cash from an inheritance. It's putting 2 & 2 together and getting 5. It's as feasible as saying they won the lottery. Did Seymour receive a huge inheritance a couple of years ago as well? QUOTE]
I won't name who the inheritance came from, because i'm not sure if it's common knowledge, but i was told when working in the GV.
The amount was generous, but not enough to pay an entire playing list for two years.
Obviously the money helped the club out, but there were no doubt other sources of income.
Hopefully the Pies were smart with it and it hasn't dried up all ready, because i think the guy who left it to them would be very disappointed if it didn't have a long term positive impact on the club.
Hopefully Euroa can continue to be a competitive side in the GV.
It makes for a far better competition when the smaller towns are competing with the big guns.
Obviously that takes money to top off the local talent .. (unless your Rochester of course) .. but some clubs do take it to far and neglect local players, which is of long term detrement to the club
One of those other sources of income would of seriously been the gate takings, memberships & bar profits
Nearly the whole township has got round the guys since the onfield success since the start of 04.
I remember 2 years ago you could not here one supporter yelling out exceprt for your absolue die hards but in the past couple of sesaons its been amazing.
Especially when you have Saad Saad doing as he pleases keeping the people coming back for more & more

I agree that gate taking's etc would have increased Solman but you say the onfield success started in 2004. Are you talking about the pies or the GV as a whole?
I think the standard lifted dramatically in the competition that year and the pies had struggled for a year or two before that but from about 96 or 97 on I would say the pies have been in the finals more often than not.

Caldow has been playing for La Trobe uni Bundoora cuase he was doing a degree there. But I think he failed a couple of subjects so hell be back in Division D4 Amos... And I think they are getting relegated... :) Its been downhill after his awesome 2004 year.

Think he was talking about Seymour hank & Junkie, but solman86 makes some good points (if you don't quote properly sometimes it buggers the context of the reply - I think that's what's happened there).
When you have clubs like Seymour playing Euroa when they're up the top of the tree you can see some massive crowds for GV games. Which equates to more money filtering into the coffers of clubs. No different (but on a much smaller scale) than when traditional rivals in the AFL like Carlton & Essendon are playing each other whilst their up the upper reaches of the ladder.
Thanks for the scoop Hank1, Liddell will be a very handy player up there. Also have to agree with Sessil not much point holding on to players if they don't want to be a part of your club.
would imagine that the addition of these two premiership players give Barooga flag favoritism at this stage.

i was referring to the 05 grandfinal and also the 06 season, the last few games euroa played in 06 were just as important as finals cos they needed to win but they didnt pull through so i say they choked because with a list like they had you would expect them to dominate

If you are not heavily involved with the club you are baseing your opinion on what someone has told you. Only the people who were directly involved with the club will no were they went wrong. To suggest that a team chokes is Bull, and also suggests that Seymour were not worthy winners. Teams may not reach there potential for a variety of reasons. But choking:confused: individuals choke. eg greg Norman. Not teams

firstly you have left Dik off the start of your username

Seymour were worthy winners i never said otherwise (even though they paid for their flag and why not if you can)
thirdly Euroas individuals did choke or atleast gave up cos when the going got tough they just layed down
Yes, but there is a massive difference in the argument that certain clubs were worrried about competing due to too high a player wage bill or a prohibitive points system stopping them bringing players to the club.
I don't have any problem with no salary caps in local football. Let the clubs self-govern and operate within their means. There will still be pressure to raise dollars, but the club must pay their way.
Very sad to see what happened to Tongala, but Tonny made Euroa, Tatura and Rochester look like Metropolis.
Fair to say Tonny have run into the same problem in the new league-Echuca United,Barooga and Mulwala have huge player payments. Rochy could potentially have the same problem if Williams ever pulls the pin

Well said about the 05 Granny. Euroa seemed to be beating us(Seymour) in the last 10 minutes of the game each time we played them in 2005 after a even tussle all day.
The Semi at Mooroopna stands out to mind.
Then on the one day it counted our boys had the legs in the last half of the last quarter when one more goal the other way would of probably finished us.
Euroa looked to have our measure at Memorial Oval in round 1 last season as well.
Enter Saad Saad 5 seconds b4 the final siren and Seymour home by a whisker.
Up and running Seymour I think would of put the magpies away later in the year but they did roll the Lions on that infamous 4 Game losing streak mid year at Kings Park in the Slosh.
Be good to see how the 2 teams from the South measure up this year with both losing some guns.

Geez, your really clever working out who I am by making those letters in bold at the start of words. I pretty sure everyone on big footy knows who I am knob jockey.
I agree with Head67, at team can never choke, an individual chokes. A team can either play to their potential or not play play to their potential. Simple fact is Euroa football club in 2006 didnt play to our potential and it cost us by not making finals. As for the Grand Final the previous year, both teams played very close games all year, so of course it was going to be decided in the last quarter. Unfortunately for our club, Seymour over ran us in the last quarter. They made the most of their opportunities in the last quarter with some very good goals from Saad and Rattray and we missed some sitters early on by some players. Football is about making the most of your opportunties and who ever does that usually wins the game.
You seem to have taken a close on Euroa over the last few years and are out their bagging us, but you say dont follow any country team. Why dont you comment on other teams that didnt play well when it counted over the last 2 years with lists they had like Mooroopna in last years finals as well as Shep Swans in the finals last year. You cant tell me Benalla havent had a good list over the last 2 years either not to cop some criticism

Having played in the same teams as these 2 players, I would have to say Daniel Sage is a left footer and Tim Hooper is a right footer. But both can kick on either side of their bodies.
I would say Daniel Sage can kick a footy further then Tim Hooper anyday and is more accurate as well.
That is not saying Tim Hooper cant kick accurate or long, I would just say Sagey is front.

Both use the ball very well on either side, but Sage would hurt sides more than Hooper. When Sage gets the ball its usually around the centre of the ground and he bangs it deep inside the forward line. Hooper usually collects the ball in the backline and gets it just inside the forward 50.

You don't have to name who the inheritance is supposed to have come from, most people who have heard this rumour will know who the person was. They had a fair bit to do with the league over the years and no doubt this is a reason the rumour started and persisted.
You say you heard the rumour whilst working in the GV, why does this mean the rumour is true? You talk of this money like it is a fact, not a rumour. Do you know for sure it is true? Or was it just the talk around the traps after Euroa made the GF not too long after the person you speak of died?
If I were going to leave money to a football club, I'd do it on condition it be used for capital improvements. Which in this case is why I struggle to believe the rumour.
The money is fact.
Unlike some people on this thread I only deal in facts.
And i never said the money was why Euroa made the grand final ... I'm sure it helped, but there were obviously other contributing factors.

Another blow also for the bears is Nathan Jones is expected to take a year off football. So that would men the powerhouse club would be without two of there prime movers. The blow for united now is who is going to captain them as Schirmer was VC last year under trav eddy who is out for the season. Also cowman was a candidate but he has moved onto Mulwala. Maybe its time for united to go young like the bears did with king an allen. You might see someone like Mike Barlow lead the group or Russell Gibson:rolleyes:

Now it seems to be all out in the open i see mentioning it ends any speculation.
If somethings going to get out ... it should at least be the truth.

Who are you talking about Gladstone? Ricky Symes? Mark McKenzie? Both are total stars, but Ricky had a bad knee last year don't know what his progress is like. Either would be outstanding recruits to any football team.:thumbsu:

Big call skillz. Its a pity a town of rochy's size can field a two's side regardless if they are crap. There out havin a kick and a few beers after ther game their not after success there for the fun as for ur two faced side who spend the bucks for all grades. As for stevie he's one of the better players gettin round, and i cant really remember u wats ur name, obviously his weight has nothin to do with how u remember him he probably towled u up.

Not to mention Tank whitsed and Carl Moon, Hoota Gray and Mark Watson
Hoota Gray? Is this right Wizza? My mail had him about 70/30 leaning towards Stanhope over Tonny. Nothing about him heading back to Rochy but I could be wrong - have been before! Anyone out there know where he is actually playing? Hank?
is that right wizza, can you give us some examples as to why we shouldnt underrate them
who will be the players to watch this year down at the tigers den.
don't write euroa off yet gents called into middle hotel last night and was told 12 dvfl footballers could be on their way. dvfl only playin 7-9 games this season due to grounds unstable and my informer gleeson is on the prowl!! confirm or deny

Staying at Stanhope for one more crack at the flag.

And why is it that ya can't still run around the ground Skillz. Could it be the extra weight due to all the tickets you have on yourself.

You still havent answered NO HEART question, you have said they paid to much, but you have given approximates of money. You gave bullsh*t approximates on what other players were earning, but you wont give out Seymour's.
You wouldnt have a clue on anything skillz.

can anyone tell me why some of the so called power house clubs of the last few years refuse to clear players who no longer want to play for them? if they wish to be cleared let them go, rejecting clearences is just delaying the process and they will be cleared eventually anyway.get over it!:thumbsd:
Sounds good in theory, but some club's have clearance policys. Players have to front the committee in some instances, some clubs have unfinancial players, some players put in a clearance without even informing their own club.
So there is a variety of reasons. I wouldnt say they are all clear cut

I'd love to know your achievements in a big league.
During his GV career, Steve won a 3rds flag and finished top 4 in the league goalkicking (as well as kicking 5 goals in the grand final). In the seniors, he won a flag in '99 and was a key player in other grand final years, and had top 3 finishes in the Rochester B&F. Additionally he also represented the GV.
Skillz, if you dont have anything good to say, then please shut up! Last couple pages you have been dribbling CRAP. Again, please SHUT UP!
Most of the fellas here just wanna have a good ol footy yarn without trading insults or making up crappy rumours like you have. We are more inclined to believe the likes of Footyboss and No Heart especially since they have been at their respective clubs for the last few years and would more than likely know more than you.

That means 15 players were on an average of $400 per game. I'd like to know what some Seymour people think of these figures because I'm pretty sure they'd dispute it fairly rigorously.

I reckon that's the biggest one centreman. I know of instances where that has happened, and the club denies it first off because they don't know what's happening. Usually, in those instances, if the player is upfront and tells the club he wants to move on, the club will be more likely to help them out.

I know I wouldnt have a clue what Seymour pay there players, but some people on this forum would have a little inkling to what is getting paid.
You must give a crap or else you would not have even mentioned in previous posts that Seymour paid for their flags.

It all sounds a bit far fetched if you ask me Tusken. No club would pay an average of $400 for 15 players. Doubt if any club could afford that sort of money.

Just on the Player pay thing at Seymour Im pretty sure they are not forking out that much.
If so Barooga in a lesser lead must be bloody financial as Rattray & Gezza Liddell appear to be heading there for better doe.
Dont see why they would head there for any other reason both are great local talents
.
Especially Rattray it would of been great for him to take some of the extra responsibility with some key departures from Kings Park.
Unfortunately he appears to be another
